Rudock is Gone

This is a sad day if true. A portion of our fan base ran off a capable quarterback and an outstanding representative for the program. I predict everybody who was clamoring for CJB last year will miss JR by the end of next season. I wish him nothing but the best (unless it comes at the expense of the Hawkeyes, of course).

As the saying goes, "be careful what you wish for, you just might get it."

I seriously doubt JR is transferring because of message boards.. If that's the case, why would you go to Michigan, where expectations are even higher?

But hey, keep repeating this often enough, maybe it will become fact.

Does it really make any difference who the starting QB is? Joe Montana couldn't win with the O-line we are going to have next year. Not to mention the over all lack of talent across the board. We're waiting for the end at this point. The question is, which end comes first. The end of KF as head coach or the end of Gary Barta as AD.

I am hopefully optimistic (perhaps delusional) that our O-line will be alright next year. Someone either here or at hawkeyereport posted the weight gains made by our starters that had me feeling a little better about things. So yes, I am hopeful... but I also feel like we're waiting for the end, and honestly even if we have a 2013-esque season, that's not good enough. With the schedule that we have next year we should expect lots of wins, and securing a bowl win is also a must.

lol. Took all of the 2014/15 season for that to take place! How does this happen at this level of competition with what took place at the QB position at Iowa. Pretty amazing stuff if you ask me.

What I'm really wishing for has happened it. :)

Sounds like he will end up at Michigan. He was not a fit for the Greg Davis offense. It either made him think too much, or we just didn't have the receivers to run it right. He showed some great flashes, so he could have some success at Michigan. I still question is arm strength. I can't wish him good luck because he is going to another BIG school. He's a good kid, but I hope he sucks because I don't like Michigan.

So you question his arm strength. Not comparing all abilities, but as far as arm strength goes haven't we hear the same thing about Peyton Manning and Tom Brady for their entire careers? Seems they have done quite well without NFL-caliber arm strength.

Just shut up, so many of the fervent Rudock supporters have turned last year's QB situation into a day at the race tricks. Great, Rudock is the pony that you put your money on. That doesn't make you special, it also doesn't mean that you have insider knowledge on Rudock's skill set or talent.

There were plenty of games last season (and the 2013 season for that matter) where Rudock performed poorly. Yes, some of his troubles may have been related to the scheme or the talent level of the surrounding cast, and obviously we won't know until after he transfers how much poor performances by skill position players affected his overall game.

I didn't see many (if any) posters suggest that they were "completely sure" that CJB is a better QB than Rudock. The vast majority (including myself) were simply arguing that he should have been given a fair shot (during the regular season, mind you). CBJ is obviously a huge question mark and it's unfortunate that we find ourselves in this position lacking a backup without any game experience.

There seems to be a subset of posters who love to argue about this just to be contrarian and have something to argue about. Ultimately, if our football team was actually good we'd have more important things to discuss rather than continually beating this dead horse.

You know how there are people claiming to support "immaculate abortions" or stating that "there were no dinosaurs or if they did exists; they surely were walking around w/ us humas only 6000 years ago"? This hurts to say...boy golly it does...there are also really stupid people who watch/comment on IA athletics. I know...this type of stupidity and blatant ignorance was once limited soley to that of our politically inclined but we are now at an age where stupidity has run rampant and even IA has succomb to it's wrath.

yes, but Jake's lack of arm strength (or maybe lake confidence in his own arm strength) seemed to affect his decision making. There were many times he looked deep and just wouldn't throw it. Maybe it has nothing to do with his arm, and everything to do with his head. Tom and Peyton are good because they understand their ability and maximize it.

Just pray to Jesus that CJ doesn't get hurt early in the season, because then the "playing with a totally inexperienced QB" excuse will come into play and buy KF another year....never mind that Ohio State won a National Championship with one....we are just little Iowa who needs all their guns to shock Ball St.

Jay Scheel gave up on his QB aspirations I believe... It'd have been nice to see a QB like him though... He has some Antwaan Randle El to his game. I'm afraid they'll pigeon hole him into being a WR when maybe he could do a little of everything. Kid was electric in HS...

Jay scheel to qb. Next brad banks

Just what we need. Another qb who isn't even good enough to start over Kyle McCann. Banks wouldn't have even sniffed the field his senior year if McCann would have had another year of eligibility. Banks also ran out of bounds short of a 1st down against Michigan once.

Man, it's really hard to evaluate HS kids at the skill positions in Iowa. Was he electric in HS because he was playing against a lower level of competition, or was he a legitimate threat at the D1 level. Your eyes can deceive you. I hope I'm wrong, but it's a pretty short list that have made an impact at a big time school at WR and RB. Is he a Roger Craig or Marcus Cotton. Cotton was a good player, especially in the return game, but his impact at receiver wasn't what everyone expected.

I'm hoping Jay is the real deal.
