Gronowski

I'd say the one asterisk to that list is Vandenberg. His junior year, before GD showed up, he was at 59% completion, 3,000 yards, 25 TDs and only 7 INTs. That's damn good for a first year starter at Iowa.

What would he have done with a second year starting under KOK?

His numbers are pretty equal to Stanley's. It's hard to prove, but it felt like Vandenberg had a little better feel for the game and a bit of gamer to him. That's the area Stanley seemed to fall short. Almost tried too hard in big moments - overthought it, overthrew it, was in his head a bit...something.

I will be the bad guy here. I think JVB’s 2011 season is overrated. He piled up a bunch of stats in about 5 games, and the other 7, he wasn’t good. Was he the fall guy in 2012 for GD? Absolutely, and he deserves credit for that. That said, even if KOK had returned in 2012, he wasn’t good enough to overcome all the o-line injuries that made that 2012 team 4-8.

2009 OSU game…I thought we had a dude. After the 2011 season… I was skeptical and it played out as such.

Yeah JV got a raw deal... Davis and his system didn't work for him. Coming out of HS and then how he looked at first I thought we had a great Qb potentially in him. KF swung and miss hiring Davis that's for sure. He kinda gets a pass cause of how bad BF ended up being. But Davis wasn't a great fit at all either.
This.
Many like to rip James but he was ruined by Davis. He led the B1G in yards/game was 23/5 TD/INT. That's no fluke. The kid could sling it.

People were so split on KOK and his mixed bag of success that they were fired up when Davis was brought in... But man I woulda liked to have seen how JVB woulda done had he had KOK the duration of his career instead. At least KOK had success. Davis and his short horizontal passing attack was a bad fit and went on too long
