Rudock is Gone

#1--Anybody really think he's going to go in to scUM, almost like a freshman, and start?
#2--What this does is put Iowa one hit away from playing a RS Frosh. Scary.
#3--I don't see an upside to JR transferring. What's to gain from perhaps playing another year when clearly his future is in academics, medicine, etc. I think he's giving a lot up by transferring.

Have you ever played sports? If you did on an organized level at all you should be able to relate to why he wants to transfer. He wants to play. Simple he knows this is it for him. It's human nature if you have played a sport since junior high till now and you've put in so much time work and sweat into it that if your best opportunity to play meant leaving that you'd take it. I'd never advise a kid to give up on his dream to go to the "real world" It'll still be there when you get there soon enough. Have fun while you can. Same reason Brett Farve kept coming back.

What exactly is he giving up by transfering? An education at Iowa? Sorry to burst your bubble but Michigans medical program is held in higher regard and that's just a fact. Not every kid that comes to Iowa has parents that are lifelong fans thus they were growing up. He's from Florida and probably didn't know where Iowa City was before he visited. And again I think this is the main thing he'd have to wrestle with. He has to consider if he is to not start this year would he be happier on the bench at Iowa or Michigan or wherever he ends up? And he's made the decision it's not at Iowa.... He won't get any grief from me after what the coaching staff did last yr.

Hardly. Two UI degrees and 23 years as a football season ticket holder.

What does it say about the state of the fan base that anyone who supports one of our true student athletes is branded as a Cyclone? I hope some people feel badly for the way they have treated Jake Ruddock. There's no denying the coaches have handled this situation poorly, but it's not all on the coaches, by any stretch.
What does it say about a true student athlete when he leaves his team because he lost his starting job? I'm not saying that it was all on him but Ferentz gave that kid every opportunity to win the job outright (much to the chagrin of a majority of the fan base) and he didn't do it. BTW, any clone troll can make up how many UI degrees and years as a season ticket holder they have.

Best of luck to the future Dr. Jake Rudock. And best of luck at Michigan. Bright future for the young man and thanks for being a Hawkeye and representing the program with class.

While you look at I as he had every opportunity to "win the job outright", CJ had every opportunity to do the same in practice and his limited playing time. I' not saying CJ doesn't have potential to surpass Jake or that he didn't outplay him at times, but I've yet to see it materialize consistently enough to undoubtedly say that he earned the starting spot. I honestly don't think it had as much to do with him losing the starting job but rather how he lost it. IMO there is no reason to announce the switch more then 6 months before fall camp even starts. Which was also immediately after a highly publicized situation in which the announced starter and his father called out the coaching staff potentially threatening to transfer.

IMO it came down to a coaching staff that deceived/mislead both QBs, ultimately choosing to stick with the younger QB who had an extra year of eligibility knowing it was very likely that either could transfer, to save face. I think it's as fair to say that Jake played well enough to win the battle during the regular as it is to say that CJ played well enough in the bowl game to secure the position 8 months before the season started.

I don't think his decision was made because he lost his starting job, but the way he lost it.

Did he though? I'm not going to pretend that I was at every practice last year or that I know all of the ins and outs of this program, but all of us can see how stubborn and sometimes aloof Ferentz is. With that in the back of my mind I ask myself, did CJ really get the chance to win the starting job outright or was Ferentz to stubborn to make a switch?
I agree with you BTW that the QB mess was mishandled at the top, giving Jake the perfect reason to go. I hope he does well. I really think that Michigan will contend for the B1G crown this year. They have a lot coming back, and a solid coach. Their big question is at QB.

Have you ever gone to grad school? If you did on an organized level at all, you'd understand that playing football at Michigan doesn't get you into their med school... and it's completely unrealistic to play football and attend med school at the same time anyway.

Hey does Jake's departure mean we can get back that NFL-ready wide receiver who quit the team mid-season but I already forgot his name?

I guess I'll speculate like everyone else. If Rudock goes to Michigan, I'll say good riddance and you aren't much of a Hawkeye, JR. CJ is more of a Hawkeye. CJ didn't leave Iowa in the lurch. Stayed to backup the starter in case of inefficiency or injury. Hope you stay, though, as the backup.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Apparently Rudock doesn't like competition, even though he was given EVERY opportunity to secure the starting position at Iowa...for 2 years! The silver spoon has been taken away, and now he's leaving. That's how it appears to me.

For those of us clamoring all last season for CJB, we finally have our wish and there is no going back. No chance for Rudock to reemerge, no chance for KFer to change his mind.

It's not like expectations are very high this coming season anyway. I guess I really don't care.
I think it has more to do with the coaching staff; who in their right mind has a QB competition during a bowl game - Iowa does to appease a spoiled brat and his daddy. Good luck Jake, Iowa's loss is Michigans gain.

The answer is no I haven't attended grad school but I don't see the relevance. His grades and if he chooses to go play football there will get him in their medical school if he so chooses. I'm sure it's like a lot of places where it's who you know and recommendations get you in. And I'm sure if he's got the grades him being a Qb on the football team starting or not he'll get in... I'm not saying he'll take all that on. All I said was going there is a step up not down academically compared to Iowa. The person I told that to seemed to think JR was making a mistake leaving. Who are we to think that really? It's his career, life not ours... But what he's doing makes perfect sense.

I will tell you who does this.... A program who cannot capitalize on a great home schedule. A program that gets beat by a 2 win ISU team at home. A program that needs a miracle comeback in the 4th to beat a bad Ball St. MAC team. A program that gets pummeled by Minnesota. A program that cannot put the ball in the end zone a few times against Nebby in the second half to beat them.

That's who does this. Was it all Jakes fault? No, but he is playing a high profile and important position in the offense. If he did not want a controversy then win some of these games.

You sure put alot of blame on JR for that? We will see how he does with an actual HB and a gameplan that opponents cannot predict as if it were there own. Welcome to the FishBowl CJ.

I wish Jake the best in school and in his career as a physician. Would like for him to stay on board and give us a good backup QB, but he has to do what he feels is best for him.

The way Iowa's offense is run its a surprise that all of our QBs haven't left. I hoping for a bounce back season this fall and if that don't happen then I would be surprised if we see KF on the sidelines the year after that.

As I recall, CJB (or his father) hinted before the bowl game that he might transfer if things didn't start going his way. The threat worked. Ferentz took the unusual step of naming him the starter for next fall in January. I'm not judging what CJB (or his father) did, and I'll be in the stands cheering for him this fall, but don't pretend he is "more of a Hawkeye" because Kirk settled on him instead of JR. If Kirk had said he was sticking with JR, CJB would be gone by now also.

So this was the BIG news out of IC? Ho-hum...CJ was already named starter....was hoping the big news was KF and/or GD and/or GB were gone. JR is probably just positioning himself for med-school, oh, and some competent coaching. Maybe the locker room will have better cohesion this fall.

Vince Young fit it and nothing else with the possible exception of the cheesecake factory. The NFL thinks so little of Vince Young they told him he couldn't attend the veteran's combine coming up later this month.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. You're badmouthing Vince Young by saying that he was an NFL bust, but I can't for the life of me understand why. He won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP with Greg Davis's offense. If we won a national championship and our qb went on to be a bust in the NFL I'd just be happy that we won the championship, wouldn't you?

I'm no big Greg Davis fan, but if Vince Young is as worthless as you say then Greg Davis must be a great coach to win a national championship with such a horrible quarterback.

So in not so many words you have basically said he is a game manager and cannot win games on his own. We saw that.
