VanLaere: Iowa Basketball and the Postseason

The extra playing time? What difference will that make? They will have played at least 32 games, what difference will a few more make? You really think Zach McCabe is going to put it together while playing a tough game against Louisiana Tech?

The exposure? Are you serious? There is no exposure for the CBI! You get mocked for going to the CBI. You don't go into recruits living rooms and brag about your CBI trophy.

The chance to win a championship? This is a Big 10 basketball program. A win in the CBI finals will be the 5th biggest win this season. Going .500 in the conference is a greater accomplishment than winning that garbage championship.

So you never said what the downside was. You just bashed my reasons for it being a good thing. You might not think any of what I listed is good, but it's certainly not bad. So please, enlighten me.

It isn't that I necessarily think Iowa fans should be above it, it's that I think college basketball fans should be above it.

I don't know that it is a given that most players want to participate anyway. I do know that most football players prefer the season end than practice for several more weeks and attend a fourth tier bowl in an obscure location.

You serious or was this sarcasm? It is rare you see football players pass on a bowl game. Given the choice I am sure the basketball players would love the opportunity to play any of the post season tournaments.

I'm still waiting for reasons why this is bad for the program.

If Iowa accepts the CBI bid, do they:
- lose scholarships?
- have to pay $1M to other schools?
- lose eligibility for players?

No. Nothing "bad" happens to the program.

The only repercussions of playing in the CBI are more practice time, a chance to play in the postseason, further the development of the team, a chance for the nation to see Iowa on TV (albeit HDNET) - more exposure.

You're acting like the dude in high school that won't go out with the average looking lady because she's not hot enough. But when you've struck out your entire high school career, that average looking lady could turn out to be the best thing that happened to you. You are too worried about what other people will think instead of taking what's in front of you.

thanks god for average lady i married 18 years ago she`s still hot as cory everson!:D

Read it again.

Oh, ok. Now I get it. Extra playing time would be a detriment to the team. Saying you played in the CBI versus staying home (again for the 6th straight year) is worse. Getting experience playing in a post season environment that is different from anything any of these kids has played in is worse than staying home and playing Playstation.

Got it!

OMG, I forgot this takes away from their study time!!!!

Screw it, I am flipping sides. I am on Ghosts team now. :D

Possibly?

You honestly believe that the CBI will give the team an environment they have never played in before? "The CBI: Just like the Big 10 Tournament, but with worse teams and nobody cares and no one is watching!"

gives us a shot at a 20 win season, just as good as the Maui classic or Great alaske shootout, what do they bring to table thats better(chance to play ranked team, up your win total trophy)? a little but not alot of difference we want post season!!! Fran deserves a 20 win season!!

You're acting like the guy who is so hard up for some action, that after striking out at the bar over and over, gets drunk and hires a nasty hooker. And yes, the CBI is like a hooker because you have to pay them, they don't give it away for free.

Expect the CBI isn't illegal as you have made it out to be in your analogy.

But it is shameful.
In your opinion.

If Iowa was coming off a 4 year run of NCAA bids, then you probably turn it down.

The Hawkeyes aren't in that position.

Nothing shameful at all about it. Again, PAC12, ACC, and Big East teams have participated in this tourney. Is it ideal? Not at all. But you take it.

I'm sorry that shames you.

But it is shameful.

Again, what makes playing in these tournaments so shameful? I have read through your posts, do don't make me do it again. All I see for a reason is cat poop pizza and cheap hookers. You say they do not need the extra practice time even though this team is full of freshman and sophomores. Can you see the value in the extra game experience along with the experience of playing in a 2nd tournament? Perhaps next year Iowa makes the NCAA tournament, is there any chance playing in the CBI/CIT helps?

I don't know what you're trying to prove by restating that PAC and Big East teams have gone. If they want to embarrass themselves, fine by me. It doesn't make me want to watch me team embarrass themselves.

Going to the CBI because you have had bad seasons is like an actress doing porn because it is the only work she can get acting.
