Well, I want what's best for the program, not what's best for Gatens.
That's pretty selfish.

Looks like the CBI is the most likely landing spot. They have taken teams under .500 before too, so if we fail to win one of our last 2 games, we could still qualify. Oregon State went in 2009 with a 13-17 record and made it to the finals.
Also, several of the games are televised by HD Net, which is a channel I get (and in HD of course) versus the CIT which is televised by crappy standard def Fox College Sports (FCS), which Dish doesn't offer.
That's pretty selfish.
No, that's the opposite of selfish.
You do know what selfish means right?
It isn't that I necessarily think Iowa fans should be above it, it's that I think college basketball fans should be above it.
I don't know that it is a given that most players want to participate anyway. I do know that most football players prefer the season end than practice for several more weeks and attend a fourth tier bowl in an obscure location.
Thinking about yourself before others.
You'd rather have the team sit at home because you (as a fan) think it's beneath the program instead of giving something back to someone (Gatens).

No, I want the team to stay at home because I think it is bad for the program (others), while people want to do something bad for the program to reward one guy.
That's the opposite of selfish.
I believe it was David Lee Roth who said "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one".

What exactly is bad for the program? The extra playing time? Exposure? A chance to win a championship?
I would love to know the downside.

It's ******* Nebraska. They are going down.
I don't care if those teams sacrificed their dignity to lose in a crappy tournament. We're too good for it.
Let Matt Gatens go out on top, on senior day, in front of his fans with a big conference win in a full house. Let the young players get experience in the PTL instead of wasting their time playing the fifth place team from the Atlantic 10.
If Fran doesn't have the sense to stay out of this crap, I hope the league refuses to let him.

You're acting like the dude in high school that won't go out with the average looking lady because she's not hot enough. But when you've struck out your entire high school career, that average looking lady could turn out to be the best thing that happened to you. You are too worried about what other people will think instead of taking what's in front of you.
