This Is The Proctor Thread

“I just thought it was a better opportunity for me,” Proctor said. “It’s not about the money because if people knew about the money situation, then they wouldn’t be talking about it. But I want to play football at a prestigious school. (There’s) a lot of competition down there and ultimately it’s going to make me better.”

Proctor's choice has received plenty of backlash, with people taking to social media to criticize his decision. The high school football star said he has seen a lot of ugly comments.

"It made me feel bad a little bit but I can't tune in to that stuff," he said. "It's just mind-blowing that 40-year-olds, 50-year-olds are calling me the p-word and saying 'f-you,' I'm going to hell and stuff like that. It's just crazy to hear. But I don't give in to that stuff because if they were truly an Iowa fan then they wouldn't have been talking about that and they would have been happy for me to be going down to Alabama and representing the state of Iowa."

Conversely the level of competition could make him worse. You play at Iowa and you're only seeing two studs a year. You play at Bama and you're seeing six. That's a lot of bad tape that can be made.

I was already thinking about this...from a different angle.

If he is that good AND the rest of the line is still BAD. That isn't a good thing.

1. Being better than everyone else makes you a target which can increase injury.
2. Other teams will attack weak spots away from him OR more likely pound him.
3. Being better than everyone else teaches players not to play as a team. The game (in this case line) will flow through him rather than a flow where he is playing his part in the system.

As fans, we have no reason other than hope and loyalty to really think Iowa's line is really going to get much better soon. They've been young for 10 of the last 8 years.

Lol. "Because I said so." You don't know shit about what goes on between the Iowa coaches, collectives, and recruits.

Bullshit. You just want their income capped because if they don't it'll take away your nostalgic fun. There's zero negative impact to society and your day doesn't change one single bit if Kadyn Proctor makes $100K or $3 million. This isn't about you or any fans. It's about kids being able to maximize their earning potential in a market more than willing to pay them.
Nostalgic fun? LOL. It’s expensive fun. I purchase 8 season tickets and now I am contributing to the swarm collective. I know a little bit, but that is immaterial.

I really don’t understand your logic. Again, take the hated NFL. Their teams pay the players a lot of money, but they do have a structure so that each team has a chance to be competitive. That type of structure is needed in college football. The needed structure doesn’t mean that players can’t make a ton of money. They aren’t mutually exclusive

speaking of getting paid, are you getting paid for all of the time and effort you put into this board? It is impressive. Maybe we should start a collective for you. I would have no problem paying for this privilege of posting.

you do a good job and I appreciate it very much. This is the best message board covering Iowa by far.

I'll bet you Iowa gets a starter in the portal. I mean, all those top 8 teams need QB's and TE's too. Every team in the top 8 likely doesn't have quite the list of success on the OLine at the next level that Iowa has. I mean, the best OL of the last 2 decades just retired, Whirfs has to be considered the current best or one of the current best and Linderbaum has to considered on the of best up and comers. It's a good theory IMO because again, Iowa has a lot to sell to prospects. Oh, and they also have some extra money to go spend now that was allocated for KP.
Time will tell how attractive the Iowa program is to top level OL in the portal.I fear you are over-estimating the present reputation of the Iowa OL culture. Yes, we have had an couple good individual OL go to the NFL, but as a whole, the Iowa OL has been a shit show for a few years now.
I sincerely hope we can get 2-3 good OL from the portal, because I do not believe our current roster has demonstrated the talent or development of a B10 OL.

That is a whole lot of bullshit in that article. Do they really think we are that stupid?

I especially like how he said Iowa was willing to pay more.

So you could have played at one of the best schools for O-lineman and got more money.. but you chose to go somewhere else?

Ya right.

His reasoning reeks of some valid points wrapped up in a huge Long John Wadd dick move timing wise.

The guy never really was a Hawkeye when it all come down to it. Everything thing he said about coming to make Iowa better...complete bullshit.

He has his money.
He has a great program.
Likely has a good future ahead in the pros.
But, his word is for shit with his home state.
He has to live with all of that.

He could have been a hero here. Now he is just another Alabama player.

It may be expensive for you, but it's your choice to do that. Just because you spend money on something to a private party doesn't mean they have to change or maintain their ways to suit you (the customer). That's why if you don't like the product, you stop buying it.

Nope. Contrary to what a lot of posters here think, I don't take a dime. There was an offer when I started that I was grateful for but I declined. This would stop being fun if I was being paid, and this way even the folks who don't like me can't question my motives or intent for being here.

So, does anybody know who was the player who may have taken Proctors recruiting spot? Anybody they offer late to fill that? Haven't heard.

I would add to that, he has never played a down of college football.

You have been clear about that from day1. Frankly, I would be fine with you getting paid.

Things that stood out to me as being BS. Mom said one of the reasons he flipped was because they have better team doctors. Yep. When I think of great doctors, I think of Alabama. I wonder why they're better than the doctors at Iowa, do they administer PED's? Also, he wants to go up against better competition. He would have his hands full day in and day out against Iowa's DL. Mom said that he'll get to play with athletes his size right out of the gate. They don't have anyone as big as him.

I've never been mad at him that he flipped. Now I'm just pissed at his lame ass excuses. I would've been perfectly fine if he'd have said "Every year in every professional sport you see free agents get offers to play for different teams. In many cases, they take the highest offer, even though they have previously stated that they'd love to stay where they are. I would've loved to have stayed in state but I received another offer that will pay me a significant amount more which is why I'm blessed to be taking my talents to Alabama." I'd say I wish you were going to play for Iowa, but I can't blame you.

I'd put Van Ness and Graves up against damn near anyone Bama has. Wouldn't think twice about it.
