Rudock is Gone

The 'play immediately' rule should not apply when a player transfers in conference. I realize Iowa and Michigan don't play (in the regular season) this year. But, in general this sets a bad precedent.

I agree. And that is the way it used to be, you paid your own way for transferring in conf as an undergrad. Bad to have coaches poaching graduates.

Jay Scheel gave up on his QB aspirations I believe... It'd have been nice to see a QB like him though... He has some Antwaan Randle El to his game. I'm afraid they'll pigeon hole him into being a WR when maybe he could do a little of everything. Kid was electric in HS...

this is the kid I am most exited to see this fall.

Can see it now. News conference after next year's 1st game with Beathard at the helm and leading Iowa to a resounding win.

Hlas - "Coach, can you comment on CJ's progression and his game today?"

Ferentz - "Yes, but 1st let me comment on Jake Rudock and how well of a transition he's had at Michigan. He looked solid today with 4 touchdown passes and leading Michigan to a big 1st win. Both guys have done a phenomenal job on that front. Both guys are doing a tremendous job. Next question?"

Wish I can give many thumbs up to this one. The last few years of weird losses etc have really made KFs press conferences so fake-ish if that is a word and so devoid of info.

LoyalSon = Cyclone

Hardly. Two UI degrees and 23 years as a football season ticket holder.

What does it say about the state of the fan base that anyone who supports one of our true student athletes is branded as a Cyclone? I hope some people feel badly for the way they have treated Jake Ruddock. There's no denying the coaches have handled this situation poorly, but it's not all on the coaches, by any stretch.

I know I'm not the only one that thinks Sheels gots skills. (I'm trademarking that line now btw) He was a 4 star rated kid wasn't he? Other schools were interested in him as an athletic qb too. I think at worst he can be a swiss army knife kind of player. Use him on similar plays Parker has been and then some. I think Cotton is a fairly good player to compare him to. I think he may have been under utilized while at Iowa too. (big shocker)

I don't know, but the other side of the coin is how Jake is supporting his teammates and school. Graduating and not coming back to compete for your job is one thing, but turning your back on your team to go and compete for the same job at another school is something else, and neither speak well for him.

Save your praise for the kid that gets beat out, or even just is told that he's going to split snaps for a while with a team mate, but is loyal enough to accept that as what sportsmanship and teamwork are all about. Some kids are loyal to their schools to the point of lining up on the practice squad or just carrying the starters' water if that's what it takes to help the team succeed.

#1 I dont like to see a good hawk, good person leave the team if this is true.
#2 JR is in this new group, this grad student who can still play. Russell Wilson really used it to his advantage and I am not equating the two QBs. So if he goes to Mich or another program I guess that is the new dynamic.
#3 If he goes to Mich I hope we get to play him and smash them because that means we are playing in the title game.
#4. We may have lost a very capable backup which hurt us not having a ready backup when Stanzi went down.

I do not blame the fans at all and I doubt JR was updated by some fan media call for CJB. I am glad he wasnt really booed at Kinnick, a few may have at times but not much. I saw Gary Snook booed lustily and loudly in the 60's and it wasnt fun.

I think KF needs to get a grip on this team, I think he has lost something, whatever he had, he got cushy and doesnt want to take a chance since the Mich game in 2005.

I wish rudock well and i hope he DOES go to michigan. Frankly, i find this hard to believe, but he is a smart kid and might look pretty good in a real offense. Watch some of his throws in high school. He had an offense where he had D-1 receivers and they threw the ball down the field. This God awful offense that Ferentz let occur has made everyone look poor. We really need DAVIS(greg) to transfer now.

Rudock is primarily a victim of our lack of overall talent on the offensive side of the ball. Given some upgraded weapons I suspect he will do well. His experience is the value he will bring to MI. Harbaugh is no dummy he knows what Rudock can do and he is interested in his stock especially in a transition year where the system is new to all MI players........limiting mistakes is a big part of the winning equation.

JR gave all he had to Iowa and I thank him for that. But his lack of arm strength, deep, and his inability to throw receivers open, cost us points and games. CJ is a qb that actually fits GD's passing offense. It is kfootball that didn't recognize this and kept JR the starter until JR became "the problem" when, in reality, kfootball was the problem with his inability to make a change. I would bet that JR has lost a lot of appreciation for the fans and the coaching staff for putting him in this position to be the lightening rod. I'd bet JR feels unwanted and is just done with how the Iowa program is run.

kfootball effed this whole thing up by not making CJ the starter early in the season when it was obvious he was better suited for GD's offense. JR had to live through the whole season as "the issue" as opposed to being able to gracefully move into a backup role.

These are the rules. Would you want your kid be the QB in this offense? I wouldn't, and i don't blame him a bit for leaving. Many feel, myself including, that beathard is a better fit for this offense. Time will tell if he can stay healthy enough to play a whole year. Given the potential issues on the O-line next year, it's anybody's guess.

So what will we Iowa fans say when Rudock goes to Michigan, beats out 4* Shane Morris, 4* Gentry, 4* Malzone? Will Harbaugh be an idiot who only plays Sr.?????

I'd say, "Awsome! Good for you, Jake. Glad you finally got some competent coaching who gave you the green light to play to your capabilities, rather than hindering you with a discombobulated scheme that misused your skills."

Then, that statement could be relevant to just about every skill player and tight end over the past 3 years.

Last year, Rudock had 3 wins as a starter in weak B10 schedule.
Same as Kyle McCann in the miserable 2000 season.
How is this a loss?

I always supported and liked Jake while he was here. I admit I'm a little disappointed, though, that he would transfer when things didn't go his way.

Like the old saying goes... When the going gets tough, transfer. :)

Ohio State had three National Championship caliber Qb's on their roster, and Iowa can't even retain two average ones? And some people are blaming the fans for running him off? Really?

D1 receivers playing against dudes 5'8 145 lbs that run 4.9. I'm sure if you asked hawkeyegamefilm or Jon for that matter that Iowa had wrs running open up and down the field a lot. Happy feet checked down the second he felt pressure. People need to stop saying what they hear others say. If our line can give Cj time he is gonna throw it downfield or at worst stand in the pocket and take a hit...

#1--Anybody really think he's going to go in to scUM, almost like a freshman, and start?
#2--What this does is put Iowa one hit away from playing a RS Frosh. Scary.
#3--I don't see an upside to JR transferring. What's to gain from perhaps playing another year when clearly his future is in academics, medicine, etc. I think he's giving a lot up by transferring.

As far as #3 goes, I get why he wants to go somewhere else and play. He has 1 year left of football that he can play in his entire life. He has 40-45 years left of becoming a doctor and then practicing. Why wouldn't you put off being a Dr. for one more year to do something that you will only be able to do something you obviously love for just a little longer? The medicine will always be there, it isn't like he is sacrificing anything by putting it off for a semester or a year in essence, he is just delaying it ever so slightly in the scheme of things.

CJ's physical attributes might fit better with GD's passing offense but until we see further playing time from CJ there is still much that needs to be proven yet including his decision making. In any case, I don't believe much is going to change as I believe we have an overall talent deficiency as I stated earlier and have had for a growing number of years. Guess we'll find out soon enough when the season kicks off and we see how much of a difference a new QB makes as we move through another season. Until then we won't know if Kirk's decision to hand things over to CJ was a good decision or not........or whether it is enough to change game outcomes for this team.
