I can't resist. Great Alford read

The only thing you need to know about Alford is this....NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, is ever his fault. If his team loses, its because they weren't tough enough, or they couldnt make shots or they didnt follow the game plan....NEVER because of his pi$$ poor coaching. Same with the Pierce incident....it wasnt his fault, he was just doing what the administration and attorneys told him to do.

This is what you get when you have a guy that was coddled and worshipped his entire life and who never had to pay his dues in the profession. You get a guy who doesnt know how to handle failure or tough times. A guy like that reverts back to what he knows.....which is "i'm the greatest, how dare you question me, and its everyone else's fault but mine".

Those arent the actions of a man, but of an immature adolescent in a grown mans body who was born on 3rd base and thinks he hit a triple.

Comparing KF and The AF situation is like comparing apples and oranges. If you want to defend the character of an individual who protected and proclaimed the absolute innocence’s of a known rapist then go right ahead. Now he is placing the blame on the UofI. Well I guess at least he is not blaming his players, but in this situation he should. Then again I heard him on the DP show today and he said (I am paraphrasing) A player can do something stupid and endanger the safety of your job and your family blah blah blah…

Again if you want to keep defending the honor of Alford no one is telling you to stop. I only ask that you respect my opinion that the Man is neither a Man nor a man of honor. It is not about wins and losses for me. It is the way Alford handled the PP situation, the personal dealings with him, the way he treated the state, the digs when he ran out with his tale between his leg and made the dig he made “you can’t win at Iowa because it’s a football school” (Fran’s proven that wrong), and now a shot that the PP thing wasn’t his fault it was the UofI telling him what to do.

Yep I will despise the man any time his name is mentioned. Yes I actively cheer against his successes. It does not keep me up at night, but when he is mentioned it evokes these feelings. Not because I have “butthurt” because I think he is a despicable human being, and in my opinion he continues to prove it.

You are the most butthurt of all the butthurt.

And to the bolded part, back when Alford made that comment he was right, Iowa was a football school. That isnt the case anymore with the basketball upgrades that were made.

Another reporter wrote an interesting article yesterday about a lot of the same stuff. I dropped him an email encouraging him to dig deeper, as the press in Iowa was getting on his tail before he split, and the press in Albuquerque kind of gave him a pass. His response back to me was:

"Thanks...it's a fine line, as we don't want to be accused of going after a guy ... but we are certainly taking a look at things"

Get that popcorn ready!

Your facts are incorrect. Was the universty supposed to update both football and basketball facilities at the same time? They were both in need of renovation. It only makes sense to update football first and has nothing to do with it being a football school. What are your supporting facts that Iowa is a football school?

Also you choosing to back alford and what he stands for speaks volumes to your character.

For me, the tipping point was when Courtney Scott transferred. At that point, it appeared Iowa would still win a lot of games under Alford.

But I couldn't believe some of his comments about Scott. By all accounts, Scott was a stand-up student athlete who was considered a leader by the other kids in his recruiting class.

Even before that, I had begun to sour on Alford. He seemed to reference himself a lot when Iowa won, yet singled out individuals for blame when things didn't go his way. The Alford-Scott tiff and the subsequent comments by each of them confirmed what I had already begun to suspect. I couldn't cheer for Alford after that, and I felt somewhat conflicted when watching Iowa play.

For me, the ship sailed long before Pierce ran into trouble.

One is following him to UCLA. Has to be his oldest. Signed LOI with New Mexico but will now be on scholarship with the Bruins.

Alford has two kids that are following him to UCLA.

Kory was a 'freshman' on this years New Mexico team and rode the pine - he was on scholarship. He was a 'freshman' because in his true freshman season he was a walk-on and didn't play in a game thus the NCAA allowed him to a true freshman this year. Typical alford not filling his allotted scholarships. Same story as when he was at Iowa.

Bryce originally signed with New Mexico for this upcoming season and was granted his release and will also follow alford to UCLA. Bryce was going to be on scholarship from the time he stepped onto campus, unlike his older brother Kory.

Neither of his kids have D1 talent. It will be interesting to see if alford wastes a D1 scholarship on either of them at UCLA.

Could you show me where I did that?

I think Lick did more to drive the program into the ground than Alford did and think that the people who are playing the moral police here on the board in regards to Alford are hypocrites because I would guess a huge majority of them were OK with the redshirting of Pierce back in the fall of 2002.

Nobody will ever admit to it though.

Not once have I said that Alford was a good man.

I don't. Lickliter was an alright dude who was in way over his head. Barta made an ill-advised offer and Lick took it. What was he supposed to do? Admit to being small-fry and go back to being Brad Stevens' glorified assistant?

Alford crafted, designed and plotted the downfall of Iowa basketball in his own image.

How could you possibly hate Lick more than Alford?

He was??

Lick was awful. If he kept the players he inherited and the players he recruited here he would more than likely still be the coach at Iowa. I wont lay the blame of Tyler Smith leaving on Lick but everybody else was because of him.

It takes a special kind of doosh to make Matt Gatens consider transferring from the University of Iowa. Thank God for Mike Gatens standing up to Barta.

B. I. N. G. O!!

Some of you people have really short memories or no clue. I can't believe that there are PEOPLE actually trying to defend Lick. Wow!

Lick was a complete JOKE!!

I hated Alford the second he was hired. Wait, a minute, I take that back. I hated Alford the second I first saw him play at Indiana. He was an arrogant punk then. He's an arrogant punk now. I felt that way when we won 2 BTT titles, and I still do.

I would say that 60 to 70% of fans felt this way and there was nothing Alford could do that would change that. Nothing!

<When he was asked about his role in defending an Iowa player from sexual assault charges and allegedly bullying the victim into not pursuing the case, he blamed school administrators for his behavior. >

I hope Alford enjoys the big fat paychecks he is getting because I think he signed his last contract he will ever get as a Head Coach of a major college. He will be lucky to get a job at Indiana State after this.

I read his answer to this question in the AP article as published in the DMR. I had forgotten the part where the UI had ordered him to declare Pierce innocent.

I would rather be "not very smart" than a little puss who runs away from an anonymous message board cuz hims was gettin picked on too much.

Quick! Threaten me with legal action 12345.

Too funny. I'm not really sure why you think I ran away from anything. Regardless, it doesn't change the fact that your opinion regarding alford is about as useful as a one legged man in an *** kicking contest.
