I don't. Lickliter was an alright dude who was in way over his head. Barta made an ill-advised offer and Lick took it. What was he supposed to do? Admit to being small-fry and go back to being Brad Stevens' glorified assistant?

Alford crafted, designed and plotted the downfall of Iowa basketball in his own image.

I don't. Alford left an empty cabinet for TL. TL didn't have the ability/means to rebuild at a large conference level.

TL just wasn't good at building a program, it is what it is.

Alford poisoned the program and for that I will always root against the tool.

Thank god we have Fran and I really hope Barta gives the guy an extension/raise and does everything he can to keep him as the leader of the Hawks for many, many, many more years.

Lick was awful. If he kept the players he inherited and the players he recruited here he would more than likely still be the coach at Iowa. I wont lay the blame of Tyler Smith leaving on Lick but everybody else was because of him.

It takes a special kind of doosh to make Matt Gatens consider transferring from the University of Iowa. Thank God for Mike Gatens standing up to Barta.

Let me help the "Get over Alford" crowd out a little bit.

The reason so many continue to talk about him...has little or nothing to do with basketball. It's the kind of person he was and is. He could be a politician, a celebrity, a high profile business owner...it doesn't matter. Basketball is just the vehicle thru which we were exposed to him.

People...and especially Iowans despise insincere, phony, self-absorbed folks who come off as aloof. He's all of those. Throw in a guy who never seems to take responsibility for things when they don't go well...brushing the blame off on those around him... expects things given to him because he's "special"... and worst of all, uses his "faith" as a shield (or even worse a weapon, see Pierre Pierce case)... you have a pretty damn good template for someone who's asking to be despised...and won't soon be forgotten.

And a guy that karma will eventually catch up with.

The bolded really cracks me up. Not saying you do it Crew but you wont find a person with better character than Kirk Ferentz and the hate for him around here is unbelievable.

Thats not why people hate Alford. If he would have won more NCAA tourney games here and actually taken the Hawks to the "next level" there wouldnt be a word said about his morals.

I was just playing and really don't care.

Bottom line, Alford brought the hate on himself. It didn't help that TL stunk but got worse when Boy Wonder would take shots back at Iowa. In fact based on his presser and his response to PP, he hasn't learned a thing.

Hard to say he has failed, he is coaching one of the top programs in history but I am hoping he goes down in flames.

On a personal note, I don't know when I quit hating on him...maybe when he is no longer coaching, maybe after he gets ran out of California. I just want to see him get his for what he did to the Iowa program.

Alford will have mid major offers as long as he wants them, it is about the big boy jobs. I think he will put together one really good team at UCLA and he will be there 7 or 8 years and then finish out at a mid major.

One is following him to UCLA. Has to be his oldest. Signed LOI with New Mexico but will now be on scholarship with the Bruins.

He was the opposite of Tom Davis, so I bought in, that was a fail on my part. i got tired of guys with open jumpers on the perimeter, i got tired of the TD press. I was one of the 5000(actually it was 3500) at NIT game against Georgia I thought his arrogance is what made him a great collegiate player, i thought it would translate into him being a great coach.

Give me the 9-3, KF is a good dude, but he is not a choir boy.

He will have two of his sons on the team next year. One is a walkon who didn't play at New Mexico, the younger one was a decent recruit, New Mexico's all time leading high school scorer, will be interesting to see how he does in the P12.

lick was the nerdy kid who sits by himself at the lunch table and may or may not have soiled his shorts. you really can't hate that kid. you just need to put him in a position where he can't harm himself or others.

alf was the all-conference kid who would tell anyone who would listen that he should have been all-state, the preacher's kid who drank beer in the parking lot, the kid who gave the licknerd wedgies in the locker room. there's a lot to hate there.
