Good look at what the Big Ten may resemble next season

Section136, he has sucked you into a pointless argument.

Kinda funny though watching this all unfold. Herby can make an argument out of about anything.

I know what he does. Im just tired of him always thinking he is right and putting words in my mouth. Its easy to dig up posts using the search function here. He can find where I said those things.

He did this to me a couple of weeks ago. We went from discussing whether or not Fran needed to use another scholarship to somehow me saying that I had no faith in Fran or any of the incoming recruits.

Weird how he spins these arguments.

you twist my posts. fair is fair, as to my comment about Woobbury not starting over Gabe i already stated why but now you twist it to suit your side. HAD Gabe started as a freshmen and not seen Woodbury play, it WOULD be hard for Freshmen to come in and knock Gabe out of a starting role.
try answerring my QUESTION " DID GABE START OR NOT?" a simple yes or no.
its not that hard everthing reguarding Gabe revolved around him starting "NOT" being a bench player.

Here is a thread you started herby. I only looked at the first page and in no way did you say that you thought Gabe would start over Woodbury ONLY IF HE STARTED HIS FRESHMAN YEAR.

Not a 7 footer but that cements my point about Wood bury. Basabe put up those numbers as a PF and also played Center some. At 6'7" mind you. Furthermore Basabe wasn't as refined as Woodbury is at this point in their career.
I think Tmoney was trying to make the point that 7 footers take quite a bit longer to develop than guys who are 6'7" and playing PF.

And my point is that Woodbury is already more developed than Basabe was at this point. He's not a clumsy 7 footer. He has some very good skills that for some reason our fanbase does its best to under sale for whatever reason. My point is that had Gesell and Woodbury went to other programs our fanbase would be touting their abilities.

Back on topic now, Iowa will finish ahead of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Purdue next year. Iowa will be more talented next year with Marble becoming one of the elite players in the Big Ten.

i use leonard and zeller as the 2 ends of the spectrum. i believe that woodbury will be somewhere in between. he will obviously put up better numbers than leonard because he will play more minutes.

with that said people that say leonard didnt play because their was a senior in front of him are wrong. he didnt play because he wasnt ready and they didnt have to. kind of like olaseni (not ready and better players in front of him). teams have played 2 centers on the court at the same time for yrs. duncan and robinson, zeller and henson, gasol and bynum. you can argue that some of them are pf and not c. but the truth is they are 7' +. if leonard could have played 20+ minutes last yr he would have because you arent going to waste a yr like that in college basketball...especially with the 1 and dones and the win now mentality.

the difference is that woodbury will be forced to play because he doesnt have better talent in front of him.

1 camp says the recruits are going to resurrect iowa basketball in 1 yr. the other camp says lets temper our predictions because frosh can disappoint. i am in the latter because people like the first group are what make most frosh look like disappointments.

aaron white was a great one to watch because people didnt expect him to play so well as a frosh. everyone i heard said he was better than colleges gave him credit for and fran found a diamond but none i talked to thought he would be one of the top 5 frosh in the b1g. remember why we enjoy some and turn on others it is expectations.

people ripping on players has nothing to do with expectations. Josh O has been ripped on because he hasn't played great sometimes and he didn't have huge expectations. same with Eric May.

Having high expectations for someone and ripping on them for not meeting those expectations do not go hand in hand.

Herby had big expectations for Gabe O but I have never seen him rip on Gabe for not meeting them. I highly doubt Herbys double double talk changes anyone's feelings on Gabe enough to where they ripped on him throughout the year because of it.

This is a message board. There is no danger in talking big about incoming recruits. There are no expectations we can put on AW that he hasn't already put on himself. I would much rather come on here and get fired up about someone predicting a double double for an incoming freshman then read posts about how we shouldn't expect much and let's just wait and see how they do. There is no excitement in that for me.

Herby I think you should go ahead and throw out some double double talk for AW. I for one want to hear it!

just answer the question . did Gabe start or not?
that was my basis of Gabe getting those #'s, my prediction of #'s are just that and nothing more

To propose:

a) He was GOING to start
b) If he did he was going to go 8-10 pts, 8-10 reb

in itself is mind-numbingly silly.

Everyone wants to see Gabe succeed but that prediction was redonk. And then when other posters called you on it, you started to get angry at THEM.

I think it's fair game to stand up to criticism, esp with some of the posts you put out there. You just have to be willing to accept it... you will be wrong. The best thing to do, is just admit it instead of using the shovel to dig the hole deeper.

Except he didn't

didn't do WHAT spank
#'s for basabe his freshmen season.
11 ppg
6.8 rpg
1.3 bpg

avg dbl figure period or dbl figure as a center. please clarify.
also you just proved i never said he would avg a dbl dbl. all i did was give a range of 8-10 points and boards. but like most on here they ignore the range and jump on the high end. and i said IF he started, which is something else that most grossly ignore to rip on me.

Herby's world. Where making urself look dumber is better then just admitting you were wrong. Maybe he runs the Football teams PR department?

this is why i dont like being here because you all heaping hates on eachother for no reasons..... i thought iowan people are nice . but all i see is fights fights me i`m sooo right me first attitudes same goes for vin sheet i thought we all are hawkeye brothers first.

why am i wrong, because i showed enough confidence in the kid that he would perform at a high level,
sorry i still don't by the arguement bigs take time to develope, i will concede that certain bigs develope slower than others,
who knows Woodbury maybe is better than Zeller or may be worse than Leonard, nobody can tell at this time nor will we be able to know until he steps on the court,
who could have known that White would have made the Freshmen AA team before the season started,
also who could have predicted Basabe's backslide or Marble dbl'ing his scoring output from 5.7 as a freshmen to 11.5 as a sophamore.
and anybody that claims they did they are lying.
myself i predicted that White would be better than his ranking based on his accomplishment at the end of his HS career but in no way was i prepared for what he did accomplish.
as for Gessell, him and Burke had the same size and rankings coming out of HS, both are point guards coming into the same situation, with no pg in front of him or Burke had in front of him, who's to say that Gesell CAN'T or WON'T put up the same type of #'s.
and be as good or better than Burke, Burke is good but he in not at this time a Derrick Rose or a Steve Nash let alone a Jason Kidd, so lets not go all gaga over talk about him considering the NBA

Sometimes body slamming is your only option.

Except he didn't

Ahhhh, what? Might want to check his stats again. Wow.

Also, for those of you talking about expectations or lack thereof, there is an interview on the other site with both Gesell and Woodbury. The two of them both said they expect to be in the NCAA's next year and make a final four run in their time in Iowa City. These two EXPECT it as I'm sure the other recruits do. There is nothing wrong for the fans to back them in that expectation.
