Arizona fans verbally and physically assault Iowa fans.......on video!!!

I was also at the game in section 209 and was treated in the same manner by rude arizona fans. Its one thing to cheer for your team but its obvious that they dont know how to do it in a fun and tastefull manner. I live in arizona and to say the least if Iowa ever plays the U of A again i will not be in attendance as it was not a fun atmoshphere to be a part of.

I think you summed it up nicely. I was in section 208 and it was pretty clear that this was not going to be a fun experience, win or lose.

Can the Athletic Dept ask for an apology from the U of A? Usually there are not this many documented cases of verbal assault.

Geesh...if those fans acted that poorly during a win, maybe it was a good thing we lost. Can you imagine how bad it could have gotten for those of our Hawk fans that went to the game if we had pulled that out at the last second?? Might of had a couple fans not using the "return" portion of their round trip ticket.
I'm glad you all made it in and out of there safe!

That video was disturbing but not surprising. I would almost say that was mob mentality, but I believe those 2 women would act like that anywhere.

My brother and I had 40 yd line seats, up 30 rows behind the Iowa bench, so we were sitting with season ticket holders. Everyone was cordial and friendly except one guy a few rows down from us. His hostility was only directed at the refs and Iowa players, but he was a moron.

We never encountered any hostility before or after the game. It might be because we're fairly big dudes, but more likely we probably just lucked out.

Somebody already stated it but I really hope if that happened in Iowa City somebody would be smart enough to call security.

Zona is an awful place to live in general and the really bad elements seem to come out for sporting events. A guy who used to work in my firm moved here (omaha) from Zona because his sons played football and when they arrived at away games with other high schools the fans would line up and throw bottles and swear at the kids on the bus.

And I won't shy away from this because in alot of cases it is a race thing. With the massive amount of immigrants and the conservative nature of the state things are tense there to say the lease.

The 115 degree days have fried their brains! This is the reason Arizona is trying to secure their border.
I looks like it's safe to say that if Iowa plays down there again, (God forbid)there will be alot less Hawk fans in attendance.
I've been to a few away games and haven't had anyone say a bad thing to me or anyone in my party. (these have been all big ten roadies).

I didn't realize the Dodson family were UofA fans. Hide yo kids, hide yo wives and hide yo husbands cause they rapin e'erybody out here!

We got yo t-shirt you done left fingerprints and all you are SO dumb, you are really dumb...for real!

We g'on find you! So you can run and tell THAT...homeboy.

That has to be the funniest video ever. Have you seen the music video yet?

Or at the very least tell them to shut up and show some class. I have never seen anything like that before but have seen Iowa fans yell at visiting fans, (which to this day I will never understand) other Iowa fans stepping in or calling security is the only way to keep it from getting worse. I would hope other Iowa fans would be smart enough to do one of the two or both.

I'm an Arizona Wildcat and we tailgate... tailgated all around Iowa fans and had a great time. I sure didn't see anything like this. I do not condone it either. Sadly, when alcohol is involved.. well, you see it. NOW, on the other hand, having gone to away games, I don't provoke the locals either. I never saw it but heard of reports coming from the other side regarding rude boorish behavior. I just would not recommend such behavior going to away games.

As to the 44 - 7 business, haha, welcome to our world. We see that all the time at Arizona stadium. Usually the scoreboard operator screws up against US. Trust me, it wasn't a shot. If you think that was a shot against you.. man, I'd say worry about other things first.

I think some of these comments that are filtering out to us are because you thought you guys would win the national championship and are darn mad about the outcome. Understandable, but like us, ya gotta go out and win in the conference. I said to Iowa fans going out I'd be rooting for you the rest of the way. Hell of a team and a good chance to win the Big whatever it is.

Not excusing rude obnoxious behavior, but I'd say not to provoke folks on the road. Just a suggestion. Maybe you guys roll a different way in the big whatever.. .well I know you do. Like many here in Arizona, I escaped the midwest (Michigan in my case) so I have an idea.

Proles have no class, therefore they can show no class. Arizona is full of proles, in fact, it came in third (behind Mississippi and Alabama) in my proprietary ranking of entire states most resembling a trailer park.

This is actually a fairly accurate ranking.

From what we can hear in the video, those Iowa fans were just chanting "Let's Go Hawks!", and it set off the 'Zona fans around them. I wouldn't consider that provoking the home fans. The Iowa fans paid for their tickets, they have an equal right to cheer for the Hawks. If that's considered provoking the home fans, then why allow Iowa fans into the stadium in the first place?

Granted, there could have been something else that set them off. But given the evidence that we have, it was just the Iowa fans chanting and cheering that started it.

Great post. There are certain places where visiting fans expect to be heckled, called racial slurs and be subjected to possible physical violence for supporting their team. Before this week, I thought those places were limited to Detroit, Philadelphia, Cleveland and the SEC save Vanderbilt, but now I think it is safe to add Arizona to the list.

I regret this, and apologize to Hawks fans.

Without exception, the Iowa fans I met were friendly and came to enjoy a good game. They took the loss with quiet dignity. I've tailgated 18 years at UA and our crew always makes an effort to engage as many of the "honored opposition" as we can. We make our food and drink openly available. We were beside a large group of Iowa fans at the tailgate and they were great. At least another 20 or so came into our tailgate and visited. During the game, 3 young Iowa fans sat in front of me and we had a good time throughout, although naturally they were disappointed in the outcome. On the way out I saw and heard a lot of UA fans yelling "U of A" but heard no taunting or bad-mouthing Iowa. Mostly (like myself) they were wishing the Hawks best of luck and hoping you run the table.

Doesn't excuse the bad behaviour of a few (I frankly don't believe some of the "horror stories" on this thread - just venting over the loss), but I hope when the tempers cool and the anger over the loss subside among the Hawks fans, you can see that the vast majority of the UA fans are good people and blanket denouncements of Tucson, and Arizona, and the UA are inappropriate. Face it, if you'd won this would be far less of an issue.

Tell that to the Oregon cheerleader that got hit in the head with a water bottle.

The video in the OP was from BEFORE the game, so the outcome had little to do with those fans' attitudes. It was also taken from the endzone, which I am assuming are your "cheap seats" just like at Kinnick. Because from the sound of it, there weren't many problems with season ticket-holders.

Now if I had been there, I would still consider this way over the line, win or lose. As people have stated, this kind of behavior really takes the fun out of the trip. And considering how the game went down, it was even less fun. So I'd be p***ed regardless of the outcome, even though if we'd been up 3 TD's in the 4th quarter, it would have been sweet to watch those idiots leave. I wouldn't say anything to them, just watch. But that's not how things went.

A group of my friends went to the game this weekend, and basically all have confirmed it was a miserable experience dealing w/ many UA fans, in particular UA fans repeatedly getting in their faces yelling, "F*** IA"-type comments. 2 friends also had beers poured down their backs and were repeatedly called "faggots," just for being IA fans. Your comments would seem in line w/ the UA fans' logic - it's an IA problem, not the UA. And you can discredit all the stories as "just venting over the loss" as much as you want, but when it's obvious many people in a fanbase were basically treated like garbage and targeted the entire evening, it seems apparent many UA fans lack class. Instead of pointing the finger at IA fans, take a look in the mirror.
