For the record, although I may disagree with some of their policies and political strategies I'd have no problem with a Republican with integrity in the White House. John Kasich, Mitt Romney could get my vote. It's not about Trump being abrasive or "owning the libs." It's having a leader with more than an ounce of ability. Everything this guy has touched has been a failure. He's not been successful in business. Why should this be any different? That is what scares me about all this.

Bingo. have and would vote for either side of the aisle. I would have voted for Kasich in 16. Behind closed doors I'd bet GOP are like "this guy makes the future GOP options look great in comparison "

I don't blame him for COVID. I blame him for his rhetoric, response regarding it

I agree. I have typically voted Democrat, but I would gladly vote for a competent, moderate leader from either party. Our current political climate is brutal and it's hard to get those qualities in a candidate.

Trump has many troubles, and if you take tribal blinders off, you see that he is not someone who is really fit to be in charge of a massive administrative organization with many departments. He doesn't hire for expertise, he doesn't listen to smart people (he is bigly smart with the best brain), and he guts important parts of our government. He makes enemies out of friends in this world, and friends out of enemies. He tells harmful mistruths (no cases by March, he said in late Feb), and any number of incredibly stupid comments. He's just not very good at being the leader of the free world.

This doesn't take into account his complete lack of empathy towards anyone, and the fact that he has no discernable values. He insults those he disagrees with, calls them names, and embraces ignorance.

Makes you want to go inject bleach.

anyone here know of anyone.....friend or relative that has or had the Coronavirus? If so, what happened to them, what did they go through? Hopefully they pulled through

I have known 3 positives I know of. 2 med workers and I have no reports. The other who just turned 70 is about 3 weeks out. Temps were 99 to 105 with a lot of 103. Felt like belt tightened around chest. Up and down during it. Is having major neurological issues and concentration issues like a lot of mini strokes. Saw him...looks like hell.

The Lawrence ODonnell show last night was very good with long interview with Bill Gates. Gates you probably know through his foundation has worked for a long time directly with global health initiatives about vaccines, drugs, control, medicine. It is a very informative interview.

Link
Gates dug into:

Testing and contract testing to get people back to work and other data

How he and others can help ramp up production of cures and vaccines especially at the Fill/Finish stage.

Sweden and interstingly Google and Facebook mobility studies which show that people in Sweden have really shut down their movements more than usual even without a govt mandate to stay at home and social distance

Link https://www.google.com/covid19/mobility/

A very good discussion of the immune response system with a good animation and gathering antibodies from people who have been infected and how that works and is being carried out.

They mention a Gates Foundation White Paper just released, maybe search under 'Bill Gates Pandemic 1'

How US testing is poor compared to other countries, "US worst at test prioitization", quicker PCR simple swab tests, Singapore test best at mass aymptomatic study

Gates said "sure employers want to know who is infected to keep them from work" but we do not think that is true in a lot businesses and industries like meat packers.

The whole society re-opening discussion needs to include putting together better testing and contract tracing.

Internet capabilities in this time.

I say it is amazing how humans have developed a scientific system with tools like electron microscopes, radioactive tagged molecules, centrifuge, chemical, and chromatic isolation of proteins, etc. to study these types of illnesses, etc. Just like it amazing the tools etc the Fed National Weather Service has built with global partners flighting thousands of weather balloons globally to give us really good weather forecasting, etc etc etc.

And we should all remember that the Fed govt is at the forefront of this research and development of tools by using taxes from all of us to fund it. It is very shortsighted to tear down the US Govt and perhaps cut taxes so much for some ham handed political reasons.

Google Mobility data down to the Iowa Polk county level with impact %. Parks show wild highs and lows probably due to weather, a very interesting saw tooth shaped graph for the workplace maybe lining up date-wise with weekends, and residential increase seems a smaller positive number but probably means people out an about running errands and going to the store but not at work. Yesterday I took an hour drive through Polk County just to get out of the house and yard area, listen to some music in the car, and see what is going on with new construction etc.

"IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Officials at the University of Iowa are investigating the Sigma Chi chapter there after the fraternity was accused of holding a party in violation of the state's order banning gatherings of 10 or more people.

The Press-Citizen reports the frat party allegedly took place March 28 with as many as 50 people and may have involved underaged drinking.

Iowa City police confirmed receiving a report of a" party at the Sigma Chi house, but said no officer responded to the scene.

Sigma Chi Fraternity International did not immediately respond Friday to an email from The Associated Press seeking comment."

I think if they open things up in closed down states like Georgia, Florida, NY that face mask, purchased or made, should be mandatory in public. Masks stop spittle period, they physcially have to, maybe not all droplets the more the better.

Yea, I don't know that the answer is 82. Just a bad situation and very un-comforting. We are being held hostage by a damn virus we can't even see. It sucks. I hope we learn a lot from this.

OK. Gideon, in the second phase of a promising vaccine trial, has shut down the study due to lack of effectiveness data. And, increasing data shows recovery does not necessarily mean future immunity. What does the latter tell us about highly touted “herd immunity” and anti bodies? This is purely a question. I have no idea.

Mrs. Cuomo is full on the Clorox bandwagon ... except she did not say "we should look in to it" ... she's actually doing it.;)

Bathing v injecting. Dif? The wholistic medical community has been talking about killing viruses on the skin for several years and actually there is likely some benefit to that. Clorox? My pool will be open next month.

I do think Trump was trying to talk about more functional medicine but spouted off track. Seriously

I wish there was a Dislike button for this news.

IIRC one of the first epidemiological studies, had as interesting finding in that the workers at a brewery in the epidemic area hardly got sick. The workers were allowed to drink beer at work and take home beer so they didnt drink the tainted water. The authorities and doctors thought it was probably the boiling of wort that kept them healthy which was more evidence that led to the bacteria/small agent form of disease.

It seems to be one of the first modern epidemic studies by John Snow.
