    PTL 7/2 Hawkeye stats

It astounds me the mythos that been built around Kingsbury. True, he had a tremendous sophomore year where he averaged 17 ppg and made 2nd team All Big Ten; the team averaged over 80 points per game. And did not make the NCAA tournament. Still, he led the team in scoring and shot nearly 40%...

    PTL 7/2 Hawkeye stats

From a point per possession stand point Gatens' game against Wisconsin is as impressive as you're going to get: 33 points on 7-10 3s against a team playing at a tremendously slow pace.

    Trey Dickerson

The Hawks currently have 7 quality players who I trust on the court. Trey is not one of them. In the last press conference Fran was given the opportunity to talk about Trey, but instead focused only on Jok and Uhl. In short, Trey was awful against NIU: a terrible NBA range 3 early in the...

Key to Pitt loss... coaching mistake

There are very few times when not going for it on 4th down and short is not the right play. I'm surprised the analytics of baseball and basketball have not caught up to football in this regard. At the very worst Iowa starts on the 11 yard. I love that we are going for 4th downs consistently...

    Ahmad Wagner a Hawk

'Sota isn't an interesting offer? They are trying to play the exact same system of uptempo, pressure basketball. I guess 'Sota should look to replace Patino. This guy is Iowa's JYD, Junkyard Dog!!

Fleming Trying to Bring 5 Star Big Man to Iowa City

I have the exact opposite thoughts on Fleming: He is an obviously charismatic leader. When was the last time Iowa had one of those?! I think he has a lot of Mateen Cleeves and Jess Settles in him; that is why his new teammates have immediately gravitated towards him.

    On the Hardwood: Iowa Hawkeyes

Great point, PCHawk. I always think about the Orange Bowl season in football--all of the break the team got on their way there. Then, the next season, where ALL those break went the exact opposite way. Next year, the law of averages will work in the Hawk's favor!

Olaseni vs. Woodbury in PTL last Thursday

Woody will never be a high flyer, but he continues to become more explosive. On PTL highlights there are already a couple of examples of him catching and attacking the rim for dunks or finishes where his hands are above the rim.Woody has come a long way from his first PTL game as a frosh: 0...

    A plan at Forward

You don't think we will learn from last year? You can look at football for countless examples: often the best place to be is when no one expects much. We will be tougher than last year because of the lessons learned the year before.

    Basketball Banquet Awards.....

Just to play devil's advocate: White also played 20 feet from the hoop most of the time; I'm sure his rebound rate would be higher at the 4 position offensively and defensively.

    Kyle Meyer transferring...now what?

Or a project that turns out like Gabe... I wish Kyle well; I think this is good news for both parties.

2014-2015 Look at Big Ten Hoops

I love when the Hawkeyes are not on anybody's radar. Both in football and basketball (sans Lick years) our best years come when people least expect it, and our worst years come when everybody is hyped. This is true going back to the early 90s until now: awesome surprises like Woolridge's...

    talent observation

We do not have as much talent as Wisconsin. The Glasser injury was a blessing disguise for them: allowing them to really have a stacked team this year. Talent-wise Dekker is a future pro. Kaminski is headed that way if not there already. Jackson is he breakdown player we sorely lack. Not to...

Watching how easy some teams get open 3's and jumpers- Hawks need to ...

Tyler Ulis. Fran has been desperately trying to find an answer. Cartwright, for all of his faults, gave us a true breakdown guard. We run offense as well if not better than most teams.

    Updated Bubble Watch

Of course the end of the season has left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. But, the program REALLY needs to make the tourney for recruiting and for the future of the program. As Hawkeye fans we should be desperately hoping they get in.

    Keys to Indiana

Let's get the positive MOJO going for the biggest game of the year: the NEXT game! There is nothing better in sports to have the feeling of the next game being absolutely critical. This is new ground for our team. How will handle it? I would love to read some thoughts on what to expect from...

    Nebraska at Michigan State today

It feels like bad karma to write about MSU so early. We need to start an Indiana thread. Hmmm. But here goes... I would rank how we played against MSU has third worst played game of the year (In case your wondering: 1. Neb-Omaha, 2. Nebraska 3. MSU). We stunk up the joint: quick shots...

Iowa right back in the thick of the title hunt!

We will be ready tomorrow, but so will Indiana. I'm expecting a great game; I'm excited to see the effort we put into guarding Yogi. I'm guessing the team will take it as a team challenge to hold him under the 20 mark.

    will gabe start next year

Will Gabe start? Probably not. Will he average over 20 minutes a game? Maybe. Same for Woody. Fran talked about playing them together THIS YEAR in the preseason. We are losing our starting PF and backup. There are minutes to be had in that position. Woody and Gabe have shown enough range...

    Marble's Replacement?

I thought today was Jarrod's best game in a loonnngggg time; he pulled a few (tough) rebounds down and guarded. The offensive stuff will come: I feel he has been lacking in those two departments. Other random thoughts: Fran has slightly altered his rotation, allowing White and Marble to play...
