Howard should be done at Michigan

Ugh. This whole thing has turned into a racial/woke debate and it has nothing to do with what happened after the game yesterday, yet here we are. This isn't the only place I'm seeing the R word being thrown out in regard to this incident, either. This nonsense has permeated every aspect of...

Fran fade lands Iowa in the AP top 25

Going by memory, I seem to remember thinking Iowa would be approximately a bubble team to NIT this year. So to this point, they've done a little better than I expected. Offensively, this team is definitely more potent than I figured. On that note, I did expect this team would be weaker than...

    RIP Mac

Agreed. Hansen is really good too, and he's been doing the radio games for as long as I can remember. I live in FL now so don't listen to games on the radio anymore, but I assume he still does.

    RIP Mac

I'm sad to hear this. Mac always was an excellent analyst, and I grew up watching the Hawks and having Larry Morgan and Mac calling Iowa games. Good times. I've always missed listening to those guys call our games. It's too bad Larry and Mac never really found a spot with the BTN calling...

Billy Taylor for head coach thread

No doubt about that but I definitely liked our defensive intensity in the second half.

Billy Taylor for head coach thread

Don't know about that but I'd like to know what was said/adjusted to get those guys to defend like they did in the 2nd half. Not sure I can recall an Iowa team playing stifling D like that in a long time.

    NCAAs

This feels about right to me. Iowa doesn't have a lot for good wins, but not a lot of bad losses, either. 2 Q1 wins, 2 Q2 losses. If that status quo doesn't change, this feels a lot like a bubble team.

Story: Remembering Magical Iowa Run in '86-87

You sure know how to inspire hope and reason for excitement in a fan base, Fry. Schools like Butler and Wisconsin (with the right coaches) can make it to back to back title games and Final Fours but I'm to believe that this, right here, is Iowa's ceiling? Being blown out in the 2nd round...

Story: Remembering Magical Iowa Run in '86-87

This was the first season I remember with any kind of clarity. It's the season that made me the Hawkeye fan I am today. Greatest Iowa team of my lifetime and I'll always love BJ, Roy and Ed. But... I'm also kind of tired of living in 1987. It's long past time for Iowa to put together...

Yeah I figured that was just a tease. If they had been down 1, that rolls off the rim.

Huge hypothetical here, if Fran had Raveling's recruits

Yeah, OU lost to Kansas in the '88 title game. I'm also pretty sure they were a 1 seed in both 1988 and 1989. That '87 Oklahoma team was salty and quite a bit more talented IMO than your typical 6 seed. They lost 6 games that year by a total of 11 points.. That team might have been coming...

Huge hypothetical here, if Fran had Raveling's recruits

Your last point about Raveling may be correct. If you recall, I think he had a USC team that lost in the second round as a 2 seed. I definitely could see Raveling losing in the 1987 second round. Those UTEP teams under Haskins were kind of dangerous. That team had Tim Hardaway and pushed...

    Auburn #1

Yeah, the latter isn't the kind of stuff I would lose any sleep over as a fan.

    Auburn #1

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times - to me, this is just basketball. If our coaches aren't altar boys, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I watch basketball for the entertainment factor, nothing more. Sure would like to taste a Sweet 16 or beyond. ONE since 1988. Yeah...

5 Observations from Iowa's Win at Minnesota

One more observation to add - The offense definitely went stagnant down the stretch, but the article neglects to mention that Iowa's defense also allowed 31 points in the final 11+ minutes of the game. Still glad to get the win, and the team played a good game for the first 28 minutes, but I'd...

    Thoughts on Season

10 wins is still a good number, but I agree with you. Compare this to the 2002 team, that won 11 games and looked the part.

    Howe: Time for Change

I've been saying it for years: If Iowa had a decent offense, most every year would be more like 2002. I believe that firmly. The program has been consistently good, but the lack of offense year in and year out is the obvious glaring weakness that prevents this program from reaching "great"...

The general fan base doesn’t demand it.

I'm hoping it ends up for Fran like Lisa Bluder. If you look at her tenure, it was a lot of 1st/2nd round NCAA appearances for many years, much like Fran. The past 5-7 years we're seeing more Sweet 16/Elite 8. I don't follow the women's side as close but it seems Bluder has built some...

The general fan base doesn’t demand it.

I was right there with you after that Uconn win in NYC lol. At that point, it looked like we had a heckuva coach. Just wait till he gets his recruits......... There were a few bright spots in his tenure, but too few and far between. All the off-court drama aside, he was pretty average.

The general fan base doesn’t demand it.

That's insane. I'd kill to have the type of results Bo Ryan delivered there. Most programs would, in fact. They were elite those couple of years with Kaminsky, etc. Not to mention all the other years of making the Sweet 16 or better, conference titles, etc.
