Wirfs suspended one game

I hope I don't see you on here ever complaining about recruiting then, because if we did what you think all we would be recruiting are walk ons.

Kids already don't come here because we are a strict hard working program and we don't let kids get away with non sense. I can only imagine the most talented in the country would be knocking down our door knowing that 1 mistake and you can flush a season.
Why do you want a kid who is upset that he cant rape someone or get an OWI? Seems the minimum to getting a scholarship should be understands and follows laws.

Agree with you. Hey, im happy he's playing, as a selfish fan, thank god its only one game. As a human being, tis confusion! Lol
It's been blowing my mind too.. How a lot of folks can rationalize drinking and driving is beyond nuts to me. But it goes to show ya how the country can be the way it is... For some there's no way to even remotely justify it for others it's just another day that ends in Y take your slap on the wrist and go on. Human nature is what it is. For most folks it takes something touching them personally to change or shape an opinion...

Some operate in black and white, shades of grey confuse the simple minded.

Some things aren't grey... Lawyers and politicians do a great job of trying to muddy up the simplest of things and the simple minded just follow along...
Is there anything more dangerous and yet more avoidable then drinking and driving? Yet a lot of folks do it and a lot of folks excuse it away..

Prohibition didn't work. If you read my earlier posts you would know that I am not advocating drinking and driving, no one that I've seen on here is. But if you can't see the difference between getting in a two ton automobile and operating it while drunk and the damage that it may cause, versus getting on a scooter, whilst either barely over the legal limit, or under the legal limit, but a minor then you truely are simple minded. The law recognizes the differences, and if you drive drunk and kill someone it is manslaughter. You humorless nancies that are anti-drink bore me.

This.

Sin/vice is all around us.
Can't legislate it out of society. Can't hide it. Can't pretend it's not around.
It's how the *individual* deals with it that count.

Interesting to see how the tenor of drinking/driving has changed since my HS graduation in the 70s. During those days, if you were caught drinking/consuming in an auto, the cops would take the booze, follow you home and tell you to have a safe evening. If you were mouthy, you got a ticket and were banished to six weeks of drunk school. How things have changed.

Yawn. Another thread derailed into the same old dead-end conversation. The only news is that the one-game suspension is a penalty that covers a much wider range than most of us thought.

There can be a difference between advocating and excuse making for it. I'm not saying your openly advocating. Look you and I have a different mindset on it. Because I would flip that point you've tried to make around and say if you can't see that operating any motorized vehicle on the open roads while intoxicated endangers others then it just is what it is. Many an accident has been caused by scooters running lights swerving across lanes and causing others to swerve to dodge them. Yes a scooter rear ending a semi is going to do nothing but maybe ding up the scooter and that operator. But that same semi having to swerve to avoid that scooter running a stop sign and you can have a disaster.. See your more worried about the results and cherry picking the what ifs..
It's legal to drink sure. It's legal to smoke cigs and pot in some states too. That's fine knock yourself out in your own home all you want. But what job allows you to drink during it? Most public places don't allow smoking now. If you choose to accept a D1 scholarship to play football your accepting that you'll follow their rules. The laws of the land included. What's so tough to comprehend about that?

The individuals that are innocent and getting hurt and killed by those that drink and drive are dealing with it by starting organizations like MADD and others. I'm by no means a big government guy but that freedom your describing from the 70s that many got to enjoy is one of the reasons why now it's necessary to legislate it to the degree it is...

To my knowledge the Iowa football program has no rules against drinking, and it would be stupid if it did. Like it, or not, drinking is a part of college life. You can play the "what if" scenarios in your mind all that you want, but the facts do not support you. This all goes back to: "Do you think Ferentz' one game suspension was fair?". I do. People like you will not be happy until everyone is walking around in public with hard hats and bubble wrap, because you prudes know what is best for us.

Speaking of oneupsmanship, ya'll suck at clowning. I won't post it here or link it but google "pennywise animatronic gif" at your own risk :)

Agreed. Not that my opinion matters, but I think this is the correct punishment, but Riley shouldn't have been suspended, but had his life made a living hell at camp. Maybe I'll get my way when/if I get elected head coach in 2020.

If your waiting for Kirk and Barta to leave didn’t you mean 3020? :D

A public defender could get him that deal. He is barley an adult in the eyes of the court. They will show leniency. Compassion is after all is still supposed to be part of the legal system.

Yep the judge will slap him on the wrist and he hops right out of jail.:D

Riley should have been a 1 game suspension for just being drunk in public. Wirfs should be a 3 game for drinking and putting lives in danger for the OWI. 2 completely different levels of stupidity deserve 2 different levels of punishment.

Meh,

In Kirks world third and two verses third and twelve, same thing........ run the damn ball.
