Iowa player that just couldn’t get there

Ray Thompson - not his fault as I recall, didnt we have some gpa requirements that burned his eligibility ?
 
Micheal Payne was also the first one who came to my mind. As Greg Stokes got better, Payne regressed into mediocrity. Makes you wonder what Payne's career would have been like if Stokes was never around.

I would also put Roy Marble, Sr on the list. Yes he had a great Iowa career, but you always felt he was destined for much more. Then he kinda fizzled out in the pros. BJ Armstrong, Kevin Gamble, Brad Lohhaus all were Iowa teammates that ended up with better NBA careers than Marble.
What's the logic behind this? It's not a zero sum game where if one player improves another can't. Quite the contrary.
