who is your favorite Iowa Basketball Player of All Time??

What no votes for James Moses??? Just kidding, my favorites: Ronnie Lester, Vince Brookins, BJ, and Gerry "Sir Jamalot" Wright.

Jeff had his share of sorority pledges-to him. Nothing new--think Tim Dwight of the 80s.

One year I was back for a game and TD walked into the Sports Column, and I think every girl in the place was within a 1 foot radius of him within a minute...I needed those odds in college.

Ahh okay, I gotcha... jersey chasers. Quite the ladies men both of those guys. Thanks for filling me in.

My father of course, but Aaron White is rising quickly. I love to watch that kid play.

Mind me asking who that is? Regardless, that's pretty neat to be able to say your father played for the Hawks.

And yes, Aaron White. Quickly becoming one of my favorite players too.

I'm not in the habit of giving away my secret identity. There are a few posters who know who I am and if anyone wanted to do a little detective work, it wouldn't be that hard to figure out. Suffice it to say he played in the early 60's. We lost dad a few years ago, but I honor his memory by wearing his lettermans ring and a watch he won in a holiday tournament to home games at Carver. Before any of you get bent out of shape about a non letterman wearing the ring, my father asked me to remember him that way on his death bed.

I did take two recruiting visits to Iowa, but in the end, the offer didn't come and I played at North Dakota. I would not have gotten much time at Iowa, but the legacy thing was kind of neat. Micheal Payne was playing at the time and his father Tom was a teammate of my fathers.

Unfortunately, when I lost Dad, I also lost any access to the basketball program I used to enjoy. We would frequently get to attend lettermen's events and have close access to the team and coaches. It was a lot of fun.

I grew up watching in the 90s, with players like Jess Settles, Acie Earl, Andre Woolridge, Chris Street, etc...Jess Settles has to be up there for me, but i vividly remember watching Chris Kingsbury draining almost half court 3's. looking back at it, i have to compare him making 3s to a spectacular dunk. it seemed Mr. Davis put together great team play vs spectacular individual performance, which kind of makes it harder to choose. i think Matt Gatens deserves honorable mention. if he was fortunate to play on better teams, i think he would have a higher status.

Sam Williams..

As a 10 yr. old I loved the fab 5--especially Carl Cain and Sharm Scherman(sp). Then came Don Nelson who was my childhood hero. I was there when he outplayed Gerry Lucas, and also the night he scored 38 but passed up a last second wide open shot to reach 40 as he passed to a wide open teamate. The great history of Hawk BB goes way back.--Bo

Never saw Don Nelson, but listened to every Hawk game on WHO radio. Will always remember the game at Ohio State when they lost by a point and again Don outplayed Jerry Lucas.....

Believe Don Nelson was a two time All American.,.....

:)

I have a highlight DVD of the 1961 "Hustlin Hawks" that includes highlights of the Ohio State game you mentioned Jack. I also have a 1962 tribute DVD for Nelson. They are available from the U of I Library. Watching those, in my opinion Nelson is the only player for Iowa whose game would have translated well into the modern era.

Greg Brunner, hey, come on he would have wrestle with Wild Bull Pumfus anyway. I always love his attitude and one of my favorite player
