SIAP: Ulis Decision Friday Night, 7:20 p.m.

Didn't need him. Proverbial one and done, if he even lasts that long. Fran's got bigger fish to land.

Ulis was a keystone of a national championship calilber program Fran is quietly building Iowa City. This one hurts. I don't know where Fran turns now. This sets the initiative back by at least 3-4 years.

Not sure if I agree on a set back but yes it hurts!

We would still have G and C for two years when Ulis came on board. Fran has time to find their replacement.

There's a hell of a long way between solid B10 team and national championship caliber program. We are no where close to that level, with or without a 5'8" pg.

If Iowa was back, the coaches would have landed a kid like this. It is observed that Iowa clearly is not back.

That's ridiculous. Do you even watch basketball?

Clearly he doesn't. From the videos I've seen, Ulis doesn't look quick enough to make up for his lack of height. Doubt he would be able to successfully launch more than five shots a game against bigger, faster athletes in the B1G. Would likely lead the team in turnovers, too.

Because Iowa routinely beat the (obvious) top program in the country for elite recruits back in the day? Kentucky is on a level by itself right now; very, very few program ever accomplish that. In fact, I'm not sure any program has since Wooden was in Westwood. If you asked 100 random people which program they considered to be the best in college basketball, I'd bet at least 90 of them would say Kentucky.

And so begins the sour grape parade.

All of this fuss over a 5'8 PG lol. Sure it would be nice if we got him. Fran has a great eye for talent and he's been in on this kid for awhile. If he goes elsewhere it isn't the end of the world. Suggesting that the failure to land a 5'8 PG is going to set back the program by 3-4 years is absolutely ridiculous. It's ridiculous to suggest that about the loss of any recruit. Fran will find players that fit his system, and the Hawks will be fine with or without Ulis.

Here's an example... You guys remember the hype on here about a Cali PG Fran was trying to land named Cesar Guerrero? He was a small guy like Ulis and he had some game. He chose Okie State over Iowa and there was a mini meltdown on the board. Guess what? Fran kept the program moving forward and no one has really heard of Cesar since. Relax people.

LOL good call on Cesar Guerrero. Last I heard he left OSU after not doing much there. That was around the time people were calling Jarryd Cole an Iowa legend, a lot of people were still getting used to the whole following basketball thing again.

I agree that the program isn't going to be set back by 3-4 years or anything that dramatic. But let's be real here; Ulis is WAY better than Guerrero. His offers were OK St, Iowa, Oklahoma, Miami and Oregon State. Ulis was getting heavily recruiting by MSU and Kentucky.

The sure point that it was down to MSU, Kentucky, and Iowa is relevant. As far as being back you can move past that Fran is going to set a new bar for what being back means.

One of the smartest PGs in the class. His height is a non-starter in any conversation.

You can't blame Ulis if he chooses Kentucky. But, I think it is a little naive on his part to choose a school just to play with his buddy. You have to look beyond that. It seems Ulis may have been swayed by his buddy and the bright lights of Kentucky basketball, when he most likely would have had a much more fulfilling career at Iowa. I would still love to have him!
