Iowa's Surprising Depth.

I was thinking about Iowa's depth, in particular in the QB, RB & WR rooms. I would have to say this is the deepest Iowa has been at these three positions for some time. To state the obvious, this is such a good thing and advantage as it not only provides depth for potential injuries, it also provides depth for other options for the offense which can help the coaches and team. I'm pumped about the depth and watching some of these 3-7 players performing.

And DL I think the LB room is crazy deep with talent just not sure how ready the youngsters are to be out there incase they are needed. The DBs that and the OL seems to be a tad thin once you get past the starters. If Lauck takes the bull by the horn for that LT job and they all stay healthy that OL will be legit.

The DBs I'm not nearly as confident in. I've heard Hall has missed some time and Watson. Maybe they are deeper there with talent then we realize. Only time will tell. But yeah if the injury bug is gonna hit I'd hope it's anywhere besides the DB and OL rooms

The BTen Network commentators who were in ICity recently agree with you. They were especially impressed with the quality and depth at OLine & RB. While less effusive about what they saw at the Qb and WR positions, they acknowledged the depth at those positions as well. Knowing that an injury here or there is not likely to derail the entire season may be why KF seems unusually upbeat about this team.

I had lunch with a buddy today and we were discussing this and the fact that there was not a really "can't get injured" guy on this team because of the depth. Of course, there are some injuries that would hurt more than others, but even at QB, by all accounts, Hank is practicing really well and is ready to play.

This is a deep and talented team, but there really isn't a superstar on the team right now. Maybe someone will develop into a star, but right now, this feels like a team that would have a lot of draft picks over the next couple years, but all on Day 3.

Honestly, the closest thing to "can't get injured" are probably the two kickers????

Agree. I also agree that there doesn't seem to be a superstar right now. I was going to clarify in my OP that I was thinking of the depth at the 3 positions at the same time or start of a season.

I don't think we really need to worry as much as we have over the past 4 or 5 seasons regarding the offense (as long as the O-line stays healthy). I'm more worried about the inexperience at LB and questionable DB's. Xavier has to be a stud this year or we might be in for some high scoring affairs this season.

LB's is also my main concern.
