I don't discredit Gottlieb any more or less than anyone else, but when the vast majority of the talking heads are saying one thing and its Doug Gottlieb saying the other, I know which way I'm going.

While Doug Gottlieb was playing, Seth Davis was doing the same thing he's doing now, so not sure what you're getting at? If we were figuring out who is better at basketball I'd go with Doug, but what does that have to do with anything?
 
While Seth was sniffing Alfords jock, Gottlieb was playing and winning. Ill take the opinion of a player over a journalist any day.

I would discount Gottlieb and Seth Davis. Seth Davis clearly has an axe to grind, and Gottlieb prediction of us needing 1 win to get in I don't think is correct either, unfortunately. I think the truth is 2 games, with a small possibility of 3 if almost every bubble team performs strong in their conference tournament (very unlikely).

As for these guys 'sources', keep in mind the Jerry Palm and Joe Lunardi as suppose to the the top of the game when it comes to bracket experts. However, both have failed miserably the last 3+ years (check the bracket project). They are 34th and 36th at their own profession in the last 3 years, competing mainly against others who do this as a hobby. It is kind of funny that they are getting paid to pick worse than average fans on the web with a blog to record their picks.

Honestly, do you think there is any chance Seth Davis would say something good about the Iowa basketball team ? Do you think Tanya Alford thinks highly of Iowa basketball ?

Seth Davis's opinion about Iowa is compromised, he is too close to Alford.

Seth Davis also said "No chance" when asked if Iowa would make the NCAA tourney in 2004 (?) after the buzzer beater loss to Wisconsin in the BTT semis. It's scorched in my memory as the moment I realized he was a complete dip.

Iowa made the tournament, obviously, and got beat by Cincy. But Davis was adamant on the post-game that Iowa would not get in.

It may not be that he's butt buddies with Alford, there has to be something else going on that makes him dislike Iowa and refuse to look at them objectively.
 
Seth Davis believes that Iowa will not get in, no matter what, even if they win the BTT. The committee will make a special exception to the automatic bid rule.
 
Beating MSU and OSU on a neutral court would be better wins than 90 per cent of the bubble teams have over the entire season. To say that they would need one more is ludicrous and reveals his ignorance. CBS should be embarrassed for employing this snarky fool.
