**OFFICIAL CUBS REGULAR SEASON THREAD**

If he walks I believe the Cubs get a compensation 1st round pick. Which in Cubs management eyes may be more valuable than resigning a 35 year old veteran.

As much as the cubs want to rebuild around youth they still need veterans. I would like to sign dempster to a 2 year deal, but not at the price it will take. I don't think there is a chance he's back with the cubs next year and though they would love to get a young guy to step up they don't have to farm system in place yet, so it will need to be via a trade or FA. I don't know what the cubs will do, but I think we will see a lot more moves this season still.

Being a bit of a masochist, I have always watched a lot of Cub games and Baker is one of those guys who I can remember maybe one or two at bats where he actually affected the out come of a game in a positive manner. The majority of his hits are meaningless. DeWitt is another of those guys. Aaron Miles was the king of this category.
