**OFFICIAL CUBS REGULAR SEASON THREAD**

Meh, a "few" is 2-3. A "handful" is 4-5.

Regardless my memory was a bit off. In 14 career major league games in the outfield he's had 1 error in 24 chances good for a .958 fielding percentage. Again that's a bit below average, and doesn't account for range, but it's also an increadibly small sample size.

A couple is 2.

Bottom line- Given the combination of LaHair's bat and glove in LF or Soriano's bat and glove in LF I would take LaHair in a heartbeat and play Rizzo at 1B after he gets called up in June. I do not care how much Soriano is getting paid. The team would be better with him on the bench.

Awesome, now let's all pass around the peace pipe. Whar is bcl?

He's busy calculating LaHairs fielding percentage on ground balls to his left in the 7th inning or later with runners in scoring position and his team down by two or more runs in day games against teams outside the division who are playing more than 300 miles from thier home cities and the wind blowing in.

Please use Dave Kingman as the baseline. That will make everyone look better. Thanks. :)

This. At least LaHair is hitting. May as well at least have the offense.

I guess Soriano's stock can hardly go down any further, though. So guess I'd give him the first half of the season, or at least until you want to call up Rizzo, to produce something. Hopefully by the time the season reaches that point, Soriano will at least be producing SOMETHING and be tradeable.. Otherwise I'd just as well see Soriano's PT dwindle in the 2nd half and let the youngsters play. You're paying Soriano $18 million a year to either ride the bench, or slug .300. Take your pick.

Guess that's my 2 cents.

Soriano's contract:
Alfonso Soriano Contract, Salaries, and Transactions

Man.. His salary goes up with age. Brilliant. And the Cubs are stuck with him for TWO more years after this one (or at least stuck paying most or all of his salary).

KONG!!!!!

I barely remember back when he played for the Cubs. He was slick in left field as his career fielding percentage of .957 would suggest.

Oh btw, I know he played left field but his career OPS was .907. :D

To get rid or Sorry.Do you think we would get takers if we packaged him in a deal with Dempster or another pitcher that other teams would covet?

something for all those "the pitchers" will figure him out crowd...

I'm under no illusion he's going to hit .380 with 50 homer this year, but I think its foolish to think he won't continue to produce at a very high level. You can argue that he's just on a hot streak, but he's been on a hot streak for well over a year now. Also don't think for a second he's some indiscriminate all or nothing hacker up there. Yes he does swing and miss ( a lot), but he also has very good discipline at the plate. He actually leads through cubs in pitches seen per plate appearance. He's not afraid to worn deep counts and as a result he walks a ton. He's shown a remarkable approach at the plate this year, and his offensive maturity level is much higher than the typical first full year opportunity type of guy. Keep in mind he's got over 1000 career professional at bats under his belt. He's also not a Pedro Cerano or He Sop Choi "I like fastball very much" kind of guy. He also squares up off speed pitches well.

Someone please cut Kerry Wood. He is getting unbearable to watch. Can't throw a strike and isn't consistent enough to make anybody chase. I love the guy for what he use to be but he isn't the say guy anymore. Just as a I type this he gives up two runs...

The day that Wood and Marmol no longer wear Cubs jerseys is the day I know the Cubs are making progress.

Wood has been one of my favorite Cubs over the years, but now it's time for him to go. Do the team a favor and retire.

I definitely love Kerry Wood for the guy he used to be. It pains me to see him struggle like this.

I can't decide if I feel worse for Ervin Santana or Ryan Dempster at this point. Probably Santana, but not by much.
