**OFFICIAL CUBS REGULAR SEASON THREAD**

byrd wasn't going to be a part of the team next year. Bowden could develop but Byrd was done anyway and not producing. Might as well see if Johnson, Mather, or Campana are worth it for the future or have any trade value.

Another day, another wasted excellent outing by a cubs starter. As badly as Marmol sucks, and he definitely does, the Cubs offense is just as inept. This is the third year in a row that the cubs have zero offensive execution. No timely hits and questionable base running. Deadly combination.
Here's a quirky baseball stat for both Johan Santana and Adam Wainwright this year so far:

Through 4 starts, each pitcher (Santana and Wainwright) have had 0 runs scored by their own team while they were pitching in the game (which means they cannot get the win in the game). In other words, Santana (0-2) pitched 6.2 last night and the Mets didn't score until the 7th inning. Same with Wainwright (0-3) last night vs Cubs (pitched 6 innings, Cards didn't score until the 8th). For 4 games, that is weird. :)

That is tough to believe. Sucks for those guys, but it's part of baseball.

Yep. It always gives me the chance to talk about Fergie Jenkins. In 1968, he went 20-15 pitching 308 innings with a 2.63 ERA. Oh, he lost five 1-0 games! Oh, it's great to be a Cub fan! :)

LaHair goes deep again. Cubs and Cards tied at 1 in the 4th inning.

Yep, all is right. The Cardinals are 3-3 against one of the worst teams in the National League. :D

Yup, and atop the division. I can hardly hear you from all the way down there.

Hey, on the bright side, 5th place in the division is a LOCK next year for the Cubs. No way in hell they get 6th.

:D:D:D

<grabs megaphone>

DAH 6TH PLACE CUBBIES JUST TOOK 2 OUT OF 3 FROM THE MIGHTY CARDINALS. THE ONLY REASON THE CUBS DO NOT HAVE THE WORST RECORD IN BASEBALL IS BECAUSE WE HAVE 3 WINS AGAINST THE WORLD SERIES CHAMPS.

can you hear me now? :D

I heard the last 3 words you said in your rant as the rest were jumbled from the echoes as your voice rises from the bottom of the division. The last 3 were finally clear from the echoes.

And those 3 sounded like you are finally assuming the position and taking your place in the baseball world. It's about damn time.

Yes, this year we realize our place in the division. Fifth or Sixth with most of the wins coming against the Cardinals.

I bet if we had a hall of famer franchise player (wont name any names) that we would be able to resign said franchise player unlike some other teams I can think of.

I wouldn't doubt that you would spend that type of money on that player, you have done it before. See how well it worked out for you?

See how well it's working for the Angels?

There's a reason the cubs and cards didn't try to sign pujols. He's 32 (probably) and required 10 years. I sure hope the cubs don't ever give that kind of contract again. It's just not smart.
