Iowa worst team in Big Ten?

If we only win 5 games, that will put us about 12th place. Why do you think we will climb up to 9th place? That will probably take 8 wins to do so.

It is funny how you hedged your bet after saying we are only better than 3 teams.......then you make the who we play excuse. What are the other teams schedules, and how do you know them?

I never said we were just going to win 5 games. I said we have 5 pretty gimme wins and then we will probably add a couple more somewhere else

Let's put it another way. If Iowa were to play a neutral site game with these teams what would the point spread be?

My guess is Iowa would be favored VS:
Rutgers
PSU
Neb
ILL

Favored, pick-em, or at most 2 point dogs:
Minn
NW

Iowa at most 5 point dogs:
Mich
Michigan State

My thoughts here would be this. We may be slightly below average right now, in terms of how we are viewed by the public. However if teams like Minny and NW come back down a little bit, Iowa would be squarely in the middle of the Big 10. If Iowa continues to improve, I could see us playing on the Mich, MSU, OSU level by years end. I'm going to let the season play out a little more before deciding where we fall.

Note: if someone subscribes to KenPom I believe they give predicted spreads for teams future games. That might be interesting to see.
Just remember that home court advantage is worth roughly 6 points in college BB.

So you think it is a "gimme win" to beat a team you say we aren't even better than (Illinois)? Then as a bottom 4 team in the B1G we are supposed to win ANY games on the road? And at the same time beat every team we might be better than at home?

I don't think you understand what the bottom 4 teams in the B1G are. There a NO GIMMIES for those teams you dipshit. That is my point. Iowa is obviously better than the bottom 3 and even more team, you know that and that is why you won't bet Iowa is an 11th place team.

Rutgers played anywhere, Nebraska, Penn State and Illinois at home are about as gimme as you get in college basketball. Of course we could lose in one or more of them, nothing is guaranteed but I'm chalking those up as W's when I look through the schedule

Northwestern is actually ahead of Michigan State and Maryland in KenPom

This team has botten half of the B1G talent this year. They have enough shooters where they can upset some teams but will have some frustrating losses too

Talent wise I think we are middle of the pack, maybe upper half. Cook is one of the best freshman in the league, I think Bohannon will be good once Jok graduates and we find a true point guard. I've been really impressed with Pemsl. Experience is where we are really lacking and no true point guard. I think we are looking at an NIT team this year.

Didn't the experts pick Iowa 9th or 10th? That's what I'm remembering. That's been at least 20 30 packs ago

You are a self described "disciple" of KenPom. We went back and forth a dozen times about this, so how can you say a team is better when they are lower in KenPoms rankings. You told be dozens of times how kenpom tells all about who is better.

There's some really good freshman out there now. Michigan State has 3 really solid ones. Coffey for Minnesota is really good and same with Cook. Carr for Penn State and Cowan and Jackson for Maryland. Then you have the second tier like Huerter, Lanford and Pemsl who can all be pretty good too.

What?

So I guess I'm not as familiar with KenPom, but in essence would their projected spreads be based on their rankings? So if Iowa were to play UNC-Wilmington KenPom would project them to lose since they are ranked higher on KenPom?

You ranked teams lower than Northwestern in the Kenpom above Northwestern.

How can that be? Kenpom says Northwestern is better, but you are saying MSU and Maryland are better????

I said they are more talented because they are. Talent doesn't always equal wins, see Thad Matta the last few years

Iowa has the # 2 scoring offense in the B1G, a player of the year candidate who will likely lead the conference in scoring, a frosh who's in the top 5 for assists, a frosh that leads the conference in shooting percentage and a frosh who is likely the 2nd best player on the team that's been hurt. Iowa is plenty talented.

Hawks are sure ripping up the Purdue defense......

Iowa got THUMPED last night - was never in the game and Purdue was the buzz saw and is light years ahead of Iowa. That said, it only counts as 1 loss - and much like the ISU win for Iowa, I am not going to get too high or low with this young team. I actually think that losses for a young team can be pretty big teaching tools - Iowa didn't match the intensity of Purdue last night - the effort they came with isn't going to cut it and that can be eye opening. They have 3 "winnable" games coming up - if they can somehow figure it out - I think Iowa should be able to make the 2nd go around with Purdue a little closer, but again, that team is light years ahead of Iowa right now. I expect this very same team to be light years ahead of Purdue in the next 2 seasons.

Moss was lost...just not ready for that spot
Jok was awful and again - got extremely lazy on D.
Pemsl was awful, wound up and several times let his emotion get the best of him
Jbo I thought held his own but wasn't anything special
Wagner awful
Baer - was good - but still hate when he hunts 3 pt shots
Cook - was ok - his flashy dunks were garbage time, I still think the sky is the limit for him
Uhl was awful
Williams was ok - but didn't do much
Ellingson shot well - he's been a bright spot and was someone I assumed was just a lost space.

The turnovers were just bad - and it was caused by a pretty good team. All in all just a horrible night for Iowa - I am hopeful we'll see more good nights again.

InGoodCo, I agree with Jok playing terrible D. I just don't get it with him, there are games where he just stands around flat footed on D and looks less mobile and involved than a statue.

I think that's why he was out for large portions of the 1st half - Fran was not pleased but unfortunately, he's our best weapon and he needs to be out there in a game like last night. He shot maybe the worst I've seen from him this season. I give Purdue all the credit, that's a good team. Iowa got rocked, my real takeaway is - Purdue is good, Iowa is young and we can expect more roller coaster rides this season.
