Iowa OC/DC Rankings Since 1999

This is such BS. Iowa's one true advantage is a loyal and passionate fan base. If it were up to folks like you, and no one showed up for events, we'd quickly turn into Purdue or Indiana.
Iowa fans are loyal to a point. If they had biffed the Ferentz hire and trended down like Illinois for a sustained period they'd probably be giving away free tickets with the purchase of a 2 liter of Coke. See, e.g.:

I likve 5 hours away and show up to two games a year. If I lived closer I’d have season tickets even if the Hawks sucked. Just because I’m neutral on KF and can’t stand BF doesn’t mean I don’t love the team. I actually want more for this program than you do. You’re content to sit in a dirty diaper in the middle of the B1G just because the coach is a nice guy.

The only vehicle I own is a 2000 S-10 2WD that leaks power steering fluid and has no air or heat. And yes I drive it all winter in Iowa.

Beat that.
I'm calling bullshit on the no heat. I busted a hose in my '89 Century and lost all my antifreeze. I drove from Neck Moines to Dodge and back for Christmas one year and that sumnabitch was so cold that I had to use the ice scraper on the inside of the windows while I was driving because the steam from my breath kept freezing over. If you don't drive more than 5 minutes, I'll believe it, but it's a freaking disaster trying to drive too far at highway speeds with no heat.

Whoa there, bud. XLTs are damned nice trucks. I'll not have you denigrate them in this manner.

Lol Iowa is a damn nice truck. Just not the most bells and whistles. The frame is sturdy. The engine never quits and dammit all if our defense doesn't have the class leading towing capacity. You've seen the offense. Ya kno what I'm sayin.

You don't have to believe it, but it's true.

Lol you saying that you are neutral on KF might be one of those Urban Meyer truths. You didn't mean to intentionally mislead anyone, but you have memory issues.

Neutral in the sense that I wouldn't get rid of him because I don't think there's a better available replacement. Getting rid of KF would begin the musical coaches game that Nebraska has going on right now.

BF on the other hand I'd ship to China by nightfall if I had the power.

I mean, that's fucking idiotic so I'm not sure I want to.
My dad died super young and it was his, so I'm not getting rid of it. It's beat to shit but the seat fits my ass and it goes where I steer it.

I don't need anything else, the cab stays above freezing and it's not near as bad as you think.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but that's a stat that's irrelevant at best and deceiving at worst. Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, and Wisconsin (among other way better teams) have averaged less plays per game than Iowa over the last 7 years. I didn't go farther back than that but I can if you want. There are various reasons for that, but plays per game is a bullshit stat that's not tied to or even correlated at all to total offense or wins. You'll need to come up with something different to go down that avenue.
UHHHH you have to move the ball to score...you have to score to win. There's an OFFENSE and a DEFENSE not just DEFENSE. Plays/game mean possession--Possession means ball movement---ball movement increases the chances you will score. So you are WRONG that it's a bullshit stat.

I don't understand how having an offense that can actually move the ball and sustain drives is a bad thing.

Don't quote me on this but apparently (according to this thread) Iowa's good defense means that they go 3 and out on offense a lot and that should be expected because the defense has shortened the field for the offense.

And you're a giant dipshit if you can't understand shorter fields for the offense = more 3 and outs and Red zone goose eggs for the offense because shorter fields = harder to move the ball and score??? I think???

Tomorrow I believe the discussion will focus on the positives of punting on 3rd down. Stay tuned.

LOTS of CAPS there, PIGGY!!!

If it's such a crucial stat to winning ball games then why do so many successful teams average fewer plays? And I don't mean slightly more successful, these are CFP and national championship teams.

How do we do that if our offense is always getting great field position like Mr. 'average isn't a mean' states? How in the hell do teams like Alabama have such good offensive rankings when their defense is so good?

Seriously, I can't even believe I'm entertaining this idiocy.

The reason is both Alabama and Iowa get one or two 4* players each year. The difference is the rest of Alabama's players are 5* while the rest of Iowa's players are 3* or 2*. You yourself have argued this in the past; I'm surprised I have to point it out to you. By the rankings on 247, we have exactly two 4* players on offense: Tristan Wirfs and Mark Kallenberger. All the rest on offense are 3* or lower.
