Iowa Basketball Recruits

If this highlight video was from a recruit that didn't happen to be the coach's son, people would be pretty damn excited.

Sorry about the pigmentation-based comparison, but he looks a lot like Aaron White to me. Similar athleticism, sketchy outside shot, good feel for the game. White was a bit more rugged, and McCafferey seems to have better handles.
Yeah his handles/court vision style of play is going to be really conducive for him to be a great player. Put 25 more lbs on him and look the heck out... He's really highly thought of and rightfully so. Tall long ball handlers that can shoot and pass are where the game is going. He's got all of that

All these Iowa fans gushing over Carton's dunk are gonna be disappointed when he turns down Fran, IMO.
If we miss the NCAAs next year, there's no way Carton winds up in IC, especially since he still has offers from Wisky & Ohio St.

Everyone here talks about how bad we need a true point guard. You don't think he's smart enough to see that he's the one piece we need? If Carton is as good as his ranking, he and Wieskamp could be one of the best backcourts in the conference. If he believes Patrick is as good as he is ranked (no idea if he does or not) that could be 3 really good players while he's here. What we do before he gets here shouldn't factor into his decision. All that said, he is only 17 or 18, so it's not like kids that age can think ahead too well.

At the 2017 NY2LA Sports Swish N' Dish, the 2019 point guard from Quad City Elite was just starting to garner interest from a handful of Big Ten schools.

Back at Homestead (WI) High School one year later, Carton carries a four-star ranking and is slotted as the No. 51 player in his class. And a once blank scholarship sheet now boasts offers from Creighton, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas State, Marquette, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State and Wisconsin, among others

Yep and the KSU offer appears more enticing as well...

I know you are a Locure Slappy and all, but Fran sits well with D.J. and saying he shouldn’t go after highly rated recruits just because he might not get them is just stupid.

He probably sees an Iowa team missing post season play with a point guard that will probably hold Iowa's all time record for 3 pointers & assists. I do agree that playing with Wieskamp will give him something to ponder, though.

I'm on record saying Fran should go after Carton as a shooting guard, so take your pretentious condescending attitude elsewhere, buddy. ;)

D.J. is a shooting guard like Jordan is a PG. ;)There is a reason DJ is a top PG recruit in the county and it ain’t for his shooting.

DJ scored 40.5% of his team's points this past season along with getting just 28.4% of his team's assists (1.06 AST ratio). He is a scorer with a scorer's mentality. He's certainly not a horrible passer by any means, but he is a shooting guard first and foremost.

Locure is more of a scorers with a scorers attitude than DJ, is he then a shooting guard as well? Most top rated high school PG are big time scorers in high school, doesn’t make them shooting guards.

Locure scored 35.5% of his team's points this season along with 40.8% of his teams assists (2 AST ratio).

Seriously though, wouldn't this lineup be awesome?

1. Locure
2. Carton
3. Wieskamp
4. Cook type player
5. Garza

Carton is a PG that can play SG. Anthony Clemmons comes to mind. He was a PG, recruited as one and played it, but he can play SG if the coach wanted to go to a smaller lineup. I would love this lineup and put in Nunge/McCaffery, whichever you prefer. Nunge seems to be so easily forgotten after this year, put him in his natural position, the 4, and you will not forget about him.
