Greg Garmon Arrested

Re: You...Have...Got..To..be..Kidding...Me

I understand your point immensely. It may have caused a fatal accident, but I think it would come up in the tox screen, could be wrong. I think if they legalized it as I alluded to earlier, than the killings would cease because people could go buy it at the store and not have to worry about lacing. Is it wrong from a legal standpoint? Yes, thus making it wrong. But outside legalities, and from a justice standpoint for the human race, I think it would be better legal. Everyone wants the forbidden fruit, legalize it and it will be a hot ticket item for a few years and just drop off. Less drug issues with that, tax it and it can go to good use, and time will tell if it causes more fatal injuries through tox screens. But, no one has ever Overdosed on weed, it is impossible. Alcohol is far worse. Alcohol was just the European thing, and when they came to America, the' "backwards" Native American's thing was most likely shunned and frowned upon because it was their thing. Thus, from the beginning stigmatizing it and making those who enjoy it a social pariah. - a stretch, but my hypothesis.

you mean like alcohol and prohibition? oh okay

Right. It is only illegal. Pathetic dude.

Jaywalking is illegal.
Downloading unpaid MP3s/movies is illegal.
Watching streaming video from an unlicensed source is illegal.
Going to another state and buying the "good fireworks" is illegal.
Speeding is illegal.
Keep it in context.

I remember an Iowa Football player who, not wearing all his clothes, ran away from the police in an intoxicated state and lead them on a 20 minute chase.... before he played a snap in an Iowa uniform. And now he's in the NFL. Underaged drinking is illegal. Running away from the cops is illegal.

But, yeah, I'm sure possessing a small amount of weed is just the worst thing ever. Especially considering it's the summer after his senior year and he isn't even on campus.

Like I said - IT'S JUST WEED.

No it is not. Yet a terrible decision and puts one strike against him from day 1. Not exactly a good start...you know being arrested and all.

We can minimize it all we want but another mistake anytime soon and it wont go well. The off the field issues are not being tolerated right now at iowa. More focus than ever imo.

I keep hearing people use the word "arrested".
Are you sure he was arrested or just charged with simple marijuana possession?

Those are very different charges. You typically don't get arrested for simple marijuana possession, unlike a DUI or underage drinking. You get ticketed.

Big deal, it happens all over the place. I just hope they don' make a bigger deal over it than it already is. Handle it internally and move on.

I would think they just got tickets but have no clue.

Maybe its not the worse thing ever sit out one game maybe two. Learn a lesson and be productive for four years. If not Fleming to RB.

I think a game or two is warranted.
He won't "be in good standing" for a little bit, but it's not like he was pulled over drunk driving underage (Shaun Prater) or being an upperclassman drunk driving midseason (Broderick Binns). Even America's Boy, Ricky Stanzi, got caught drinking underage. All of these acts are illegal - just like possession of marijuana.

Again, fans need to keep it in context here. Unfortunately, because they hear "marijuana" or "pot" or "weed" - they think DRUGS OH NO DRUGS!! SOCIETY IS RUINED!

Context.

that how I feel.

I would think a 1 game suspension would be standard in this situation. But who knows since he is an incoming freshman and has not even arrived on campus. I guess swing and a miss, strike 1. But anyone that doesnt think pot isnt prevalent in college football is full of it.

Upon hearing the news, KF bore down on his gum and bent over to scribble a note in that stupid little pad he keeps in his pocket.

You can’t even make a funny without being an arse can you......do you know how many coaches now keep and scribble in a pad......You could have just said “and scribble in his notepad”, but you had to make it “stupid” and therefore an insult. I don’t get it, am I missing something here...

$50 civil ticket in Evanston. The cops spent too much time in court and the disadvantaged persons were getting angry that so many kids had an arrest that kept them from getting jobs. The cops raided some dude with a lot, so they are still going after dealers, but the kid with less than ten grams ain't getting arrested. That's prolly the way it ought to be everywhere if it ain't legal.

100% agree and for the record in case anyone cares…..I’m not ok with poor decisions, which this was, but they happen….alot!! By all of us, even now….just spend an hour reading this board. It will make your brain rot…:D

This should not be a discussion about whether weed is bad or not. If a guy wants to smoke it, then do so, but right now, there are consequences for doing so, particularly if you're out in the public domain. He undoubtedly knew it was not legal, and undoubtedly knew it was against KF's rules - yet he chose to disregard it. As a member of the football team, he doesn't get to decide which rules he will follow and which ones he can disregard. That's the issue, to me.

Fortunately, like others have pointed out, it's early, early in his career, and hopefully, he'll learn from this. As an infraction, it's something he can (and should be allowed to) recover from. He's young and not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. It's a chance for him to grow up. Let's see how he responds to it, that's the measure of his commitment. If he wants to keep smoking, fine - have at it. But, he can talk to Adam Robinson about how that will work out for him as an ongoing member of the Iowa football team.

It sounds like from the Erie paper all they police found was a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle. I wonder if they mean that they found some on the floor or the seats of the vehicle or actually found some in a container/bag in the vehicle? Im curious to know what cause was there for the vehicle to be searched?

Seems like people are making the assumption he was high when he was stopped, do we actually know that?

expired registration, smelled like marijuana.

How do you know they smelled marijuana?

Because it said so in the article.

Garmon reportedly had an expired registration on the vehicle he was driving.
They reportedly had marijuana in the car that police say they could smell.
Garmon and Williams were charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Yeah, they smelled it after they found it. I don't necessarily believe what they say.

Could have got searched for being black and driving with no registration. Then found weed and wrote in report that they smelled it.
