Greg Garmon Arrested

You really do not get it spank. This is one of the dumbest posts in this history of this board. It says alot about you frankly. Stop making excuses and justfying a stupid decision. If you want to think being arrested for marijuana and speeding are the same. I am not going to waste my time. Think what you want.

I think my wife does......:D...of course it may have something to do with me going to driving school about 5 times.....;)

You're right. Speeding can be a more expensive fine than being caught with weed.
Again, it's just weed, dude. It's an herb grown that people smoke... just like tobacco. We're not talking meth or cocaine or something here. Weed. A high schooler got caught with it, not world news here.

I'm not justifying his actions, I'm tell people to chill out. It's not that big of a deal. Kid got caught with weed. Whoops.

Sure is easy to tell the posters that love to smoke a little weed. Not all that shocking, I suppose. The issue has little to do with weed, I know you arent getting that. It continues to be poor decisions that Iowa players are making.

Except I am not a pot smoker... so I guess that shoots your theory all to hell.

Honesty I get where you are coming from but I think maybe you are missing the point of what they are saying. This isn’t an Iowa player thing in so much as it is a societal thing and a youth thing and a perception thing. I can stop just short of guaranteeing you (I don’t have the stats) that this has been the case for all time. Some people get caught, most don’t. And in this decade it is more reported and more discussed and there are countless opinions about how terrible it is or isn’t.

When I went to ISU I smoked dope with Jeff Shudak and Geno Williams. Shudak if I remember correctly was an All-American kicker and Big Gene went on to play for the Dolphins and Browns in the NFL…if memory serves. Crawled on the elevator one time and ran into Brett Oberg while we were both tripping on acid.

Point being this is what it is……a constant life issue and quite frankly I have employees right now that I know smoke dope. I don’t care. As long as they work hard, show up on time and give great effort, it’s on them.

and every other freaking school. Why do some Iowa fans think that players getting into trouble only happens to Iowa.

Sure it sucks but it happens EVERYWHERE!!!!!! Again that isn't an excuse for Garmon's poor decision but lets not act like Iowa is the only team that has players or recruits charged with a crime.

Wow Chad... Thats an impressive admition right there sir. Kudos on not getting stuck in that life style.

How stupid do you need to be to have this opportunity in front of you and put yourself in a situation with some weed and an expired registration? My God, he is supposed to arrive on campus soon and to even put yourself in that situation is so idiotic. Maybe the guy upstairs is telling us to simply go with the spread offense and rid of the running back position ...

I agree. Absolute stupidity on Garman's part.

You kind of disarmed me…wasn’t expecting that and thank-you. Quitting dope wasn’t that big a deal as I got to the point in my mid twenties that all I wanted to do was go to sleep when I did it. In fact it’s probably been 15 years or so since I did. The other drugs just went by the way side. I was heavy drinker for some time though, but I haven’t drank 10 years in December……cigar smoking and what not has been more difficult….lol

Through Christ however all things are possible…..if I could only figure out how to not come off as an arse on a message board……

I get where your coming from. I smoked weed and luckily didnt get caught the same age as Greg. I had a scholarship on the line too (obviously not nearly to the level of his) its not hard to make dumb a$$ decisions when your 18. This is getting to be freakn rediculous how serious some are making it.

Yes…on the one hand it was stupid and he shouldn’t do it, I don’t condone it and I don’t want my kids to do it.

On the other hand I did and fortunately God has forgiven me of that and a great deal more…..this should be forgiven as well.

Of course thats assuming he acts like a Big boy, calls KF, expresses remorse and moves on...

Agree, in and of itself...

marijuana use by a high school senior does not mean he can't/won't succeed in life. But I became much more concerned about Garmon's long-term future after reading his Twitter timeline. There is bad judgement and then there is bad judgement. Again, caveat that all of us would likely be ashamed by actions in our teenage years, but he has a whole lot of growing up to do.

Your list of guys who had minor legal issues (Binns, Stanzi, Prater, Reiff) who went on to have zero problems is proof that this just may be a momentary blip, but it's certainly not a good start to his college career.

I wonder if some of the dudes here will admit to using pot on a public forum. After all it is only weed, dudes. I imagine these same dudes will tell their teenage children that there is nothing wrong smoking pot.

"It is just like jaywalking, son. Go ahead. You have my blessings." I can just picture some dude telling his children this.

Party on , dudes.

Yeah that Twitter feed is a bit nuts.
I don't think a lot of people (esp the younger crowd) realize how significant it can be by posting items to social media. These days people are all over it.

I would never condone jaywalking, you could get hit and killed by a car or truck, bro-seff.

I missed the tweeter feed apparently......

There is only one reason it is'nt legal. There is not a test to perform If you are currently under the influance. THC stays in your system for up to 30 days or more, the man who invents a test telling the popo you smoked within the last few hours will have it legalized and be will be a very rich man!!

I think a game or two is warranted. He won't "be in good standing" for a little bit, but it's not like he was pulled over drunk driving underage (Shaun Prater) or being an upperclassman drunk driving midseason (Broderick Binns). Even America's Boy, Ricky Stanzi, got caught drinking underage. All of these acts are illegal - just like possession of marijuana.Again, fans need to keep it in context here. Unfortunately, because they hear "marijuana" or "pot" or "weed" - they think DRUGS OH NO DRUGS!! SOCIETY IS RUINED!Context.

I never have smoked, but think it would be better for society to be legalized

Didn't this kid survive cancer? If so I will give him a pass on the dope. For all of those against leagalization of pot. Stop with the prohibitionist rhetoric and think in terms of how tobacco is taxed and taxed some more. Study after study shows more and more kids using pot, the laws against it do nothing, but make it even more popular. How many billions of dollars have been spent on a drug war that has been lost? It is time to legalize it and control it. Studies have been proven crime rates fall after legalization. I do not smoke pot, but I know plenty of people who do, it helps in all kids of ways that other drugs are prescibed for, ironic thing is the other drugs such as oxycoton are addictive unlike pot. In this day and age with so much information on the topic I just cannot believe this is still an argument even. Now should one smoke pot and drive, the obvious answer to this is hell no, just like no one should drive drunk or under the influence of any other drug that would slow down one's response time. I for one am sick of relying on politicians who do not speak for the public making decisions about what is best. Lets put this to a national vote along with gay marriage and settle it once and for all or at least for a period of 5 years or so.

I wonder how long it will be before pot-happy athletes will just restrict their college offers to just the schools in medical pot legal states, like California, or now here in Arizona or Colorado. If Garmon is a cancer survivor, he would automatically qualify for a pot smoker's card out there.
