Greg Garmon Arrested

Sorry Dex. If someone thinks a speeding ticket and drug arrest are viewed equally in the real world, they havent ventured out much. That is not reality.

The same for the guy comparing caffeine and weed. Yep, viewed exactly the same. Lol.

As I said long ago Garmon will likely learn from this and be a great student/athlete at Iowa. He made a very poor choice but cant change that now. Thankfully, unlike a few here, GG will take ownership and not blame something else. I doubt he told Kirk that it is no big deal and just like having a cup of soda.

I am not the igonrant small town person if your opinion is drugs are only for the underclass. Here is the thing I have studied and read about this subject matter so the fact that people keep throwing out OPINIONS based not on fact but conjecture is frustrating. I am not arguing that every kid should legaly have access to pot, but the fact is they already do.

Brother I’m sorry but this isn’t true…at one time I may have agreed with you, but I lived in Columbia Missouri for 9 months, the suburbs of Chicago for a year and a half and now live about an hr from down town Chicago in a Tri-city of 100K or so. If you think there are more of those people in the small towns then you are just as sheltered as the people you are chastising.

Furthermore when interviewing I don’t think you can even ask people about their drug use and quite frankly if we think a guy smokes, but can do the job, we will hire him anyway and we aren’t that unusual.

And you are extrapolating a great deal from people’s comments if you think they are suggesting GG will blame someone else or they think he should or that it’s ok. That’s not what they are saying.

Disregard the fact that many times employers ask for a drug test when you are being hired....

I can help but wonder how much having a more youthful coaching staff now may help handle this. Since marijuana is much more common now and becoming more and more legally accepted and less punishing. If Brian and Levar input on how common use is and there youthful input will be used.

I understand your hope there, but I’m pretty sure marijuana isn’t anymore popular though it may indeed be a little more socially acceptable. Im not so sure Brain Ferentz who from what I can tell is pretty opinionated or Levar who is a consummate professional are really any more likely to look favorably on it.

In fact I’ve seen it be the other way around…

you can't ask someone if they do drugs in an interview? Why not? Is drug user some sort of protected class now?

As far as I remember it being told to me by HR, you can’t ask them anything that’s not on a App. And it isn’t on any App I’ve ever seen. You have to be very, very careful on what you ask in an interview these days.

30 Interview Questions You Can't Ask and 30 Sneaky, Legal Alternatives to Get the Same Info

What you can't ask: Do you take drugs?

This question is just a simple confusion of terms. Your interviewee may think you're asking about prescription drugs, which is off-limits. Make sure you specify that you want to know about illegal drug use instead.

What to ask instead: Do you use illegal drugs?

Bwahaha. Oh man you'll be the parent who blames everyone else. Ive realized a lot of small town folks are like this. Not experiencing the real world and understanding that poor decisions have consequences. It is pure comedy you think this is all about weed. Carry on...

You probably need to STFU about my parenting. I think I do a mighty fine job raising my kids. I am all about personal responsibility and accountability. At what point have I EVER said Garmon should not be held accountable for his actions? I am simply saying that people saying he should be kicked off the team, get his scholarship pulled, etc... need to get a grip. Again, it's weed... it's not like he was selling heroin, got a DUI, or bought a hooker. He got pulled over in a car that smelled like pot and the cop found a small amount of weed. He needs to be held accountable, but it's not a career ending violation. The bigger issue with Garmon is his Twitter account, some of the stuff on there makes you really hope it gets nixed by KF soon.

Sure, it is everywhere, you are correct. Higher degree in small towns. This is why many stay in small towns..they would end up flipping burgers in larger cities.

It is just weed to spank, however, many large companies still conduct drug testing. But hey, just like a speeding ticket, right? Just the same to companies hiring too, right? Lol. These people have little to no shot in the real world if they cant grasp it.

Just like being drunk on the job, employers don't want their employees high on the job. That's why you see random drug testing. In regards to speeding tickets, if you travel for you company and you get speeding tickets, a DUI, etc... most will not allow you to drive company vehicles and can take you off the road. If your job depends on this, guess what? You lost your job. So driving violations can be just as damaging as getting a positive drug test. I have several fellow managers/directors that are in the HR field and on several occasions when drug testing comes up, they say they do it to look for the "big ones" - cocaine, heroin, et al. They will talk to employees that ring up as pot smokers, but usually put them on probation and then re-test in 60 days.

You talk about the "real world" and people being ignorant because they live in small towns, but you seem to be pretty sheltered in your opinion on marijuana and how it's viewed by companies and other people in America.

Keep on keeping on, brother.

I'll say it again.

He is currently not in good standing and Ferentz thinks it was a dumb@ss move.
Garmon will get a 1-2 game suspension.

There you go.

the younger you are, the less the law matters?

the 'it's just weed' argument is such a fail.

I will say this again.....I am on prescription meds that have worse side effects than weed. If any of you have had antidepressants pushed on you by the drug pushing doctors than you know some of these "medical prescriptions" can mess you up pretty badly forever. I have met people who have lasting effects.

The law is becoming less and less severe. Many states are considering decriminalizing marijuana. Times change weed is way more common today than ever. It's just weed.

If you have been watching the news, it is pretty obvious that pot will eventually be legal. First step, as what is being done in NY is to decriminalize it. They have a law in works where an ounce or less of weed would only be a $100 fine. States like Cali have legalized it for medical purposes but pretty much anyone can get a prescription from a dr pretty easily.

As the older generations die off, there will be much less push back as they were brought up to think weed as some devil drug that can kill you. This is no longer taught to kids as it is just not true.

I do understand what you are saying and believe me when I say the cognitive thinking skills of humanity as a whole has greatly deteriorated; but it’s still not that hard to “get†what he was thinking.

1st off a very large percentage of the kids I played football with smoked dope. Doesn’t make it ok, but just because he happens to be the crème de la crème of high school football players he still thinks like most of them… meaning..."man I leave for Iowa next week and I think I’m going to have one last burn because I won’t have a chance again in some time……"

2nd……other than making you look bad and your level of commitment seem shallow, it’s not difficult to play high school football while smoking dope. You honestly don’t need to be in that good of physical conditioning at all or at least it doesn’t even compare to the conditioning needed to say…wrestle.

3rd…and finally if we really knew who was posting and what they did as a youth or for that matter what they are doing right now….we’d get a whole different level of understanding and conversations on here.

So while I’m a born again Christian and against this stuff as a rule, I get it and choose to have a lot of empathy. My bent is against the naysayers and critics who so openly and loudly criticize others…as you may know..:D

You really do not get it spank. This is one of the dumbest posts in this history of this board. It says alot about you frankly. Stop making excuses and justfying a stupid decision. If you want to think being arrested for marijuana and speeding are the same. I am not going to waste my time. Think what you want.

No pretty sure you just topped the dumbest post with your post right there 20.
