You probably need to STFU about my parenting. I think I do a mighty fine job raising my kids. I am all about personal responsibility and accountability. At what point have I EVER said Garmon should not be held accountable for his actions? I am simply saying that people saying he should be kicked off the team, get his scholarship pulled, etc... need to get a grip. Again, it's weed... it's not like he was selling heroin, got a DUI, or bought a hooker. He got pulled over in a car that smelled like pot and the cop found a small amount of weed. He needs to be held accountable, but it's not a career ending violation. The bigger issue with Garmon is his Twitter account, some of the stuff on there makes you really hope it gets nixed by KF soon.

Just like being drunk on the job, employers don't want their employees high on the job. That's why you see random drug testing. In regards to speeding tickets, if you travel for you company and you get speeding tickets, a DUI, etc... most will not allow you to drive company vehicles and can take you off the road. If your job depends on this, guess what? You lost your job. So driving violations can be just as damaging as getting a positive drug test. I have several fellow managers/directors that are in the HR field and on several occasions when drug testing comes up, they say they do it to look for the "big ones" - cocaine, heroin, et al. They will talk to employees that ring up as pot smokers, but usually put them on probation and then re-test in 60 days.

You talk about the "real world" and people being ignorant because they live in small towns, but you seem to be pretty sheltered in your opinion on marijuana and how it's viewed by companies and other people in America.

Keep on keeping on, brother.

This was a spot on analysis of how damaging speeding can be and how mild marijuana is in the work place now.

Your employer can ask you directly if you use illegal drugs. They can not ask you about alcohol, tobacco, or perscription medication.

I really don't think this is true. Again we do drug test if we are suspicious or rather don’t if we want to hire them anyway and we are suspicious.

the younger you are, the less the law matters?

the 'it's just weed' argument is such a fail.

Possibly but very debatable….I’m 42 and I haven’t smoked dope in at least 15 years and haven’t drank since December of 2002. I also don’t want my kids too, and I do try and educate them. With that said I could care less if you do, if you are a good worker and are talented it means little to me one way or the other….I’m not that unusual either.

My boss has never smoked dope and if he thinks you’re a productive employee he’ll look the other way. Now if crap goes down hill, we'll drug test you in a second, but as long as you are on the up and up it is what it is...

In Twitter news, Morehouse said that Garmon is not yet on campus but all other freshman are, but then he also tweeted that Laron Taylor isn't here yet either.

In Facebook news, he apparently said he is still coming to Iowa.

Sure, it is everywhere, you are correct. Higher degree in small towns. This is why many stay in small towns..they would end up flipping burgers in larger cities. It is just weed to spank, however, many large companies still conduct drug testing. But hey, just like a speeding ticket, right? Just the same to companies hiring too, right? Lol. These people have little to no shot in the real world if they cant grasp it.
In my small town, people were a lot more accountable. You got your *** whipped if you screwed up and other people's parents would call your parents and let them know what you had done...that is after they got on your butt for doing it...which is as it should be.I see waaaaaaay more excuse making in the burbs. It's never the fault of your own kid, its always someone else.

This....Police in my hometown think they are big city police officers and treated everyone like crap. Im more afraid of getting shot by a police officer in my hometown then anywhere else in Iowa. Probably the only place where they need 3 plus cops for a routine traffic ticket. Iowa city police officers are cupcakes compared to my hometown.

Yes, that is what he said. Someone posted on his wall "Are you still coming to Iowa city? the hawk nation needs you. Stay focused and work even harder. Good luck."

Greg replied "yea still coming"

Seems he still will be joining us, now it is a matter of when he gets here.

From what I've been reading here and how Ferentz reacted, I doubt Garmon will ever make it to Iowa City.

Sad indeed.

see post #274

You refer to Spank's post who then a few posts later goes on to say that it'll probably be a 1-2 game suspension. Of course Kirk isn't happy over the ordeal, it makes him and the university look bad. But I haven't read anywhere or gotten the feeling that Iowa is cutting ties with Greg.

Stuff like this bothers me......
ESPN.com, star RB recruit Greg Garmon was arrested for marijuana possession on Thursday night. Garmon had been a candidate for significant carries this season almost by default—and one simple misdemeanor for driving around with a joint doesn't look like a career-buster—but between the arrest and his extraordinarily ill-advised Twitter account, it's hard to imagine Garmon being a good fit in Iowa City.

Can I get a link to that? The only thing I found on ESPN was the story about him getting arrested but the quote above isn't from that.

He'll make it to IC, you'd think. KF not happy about it (who would be?)

But I think they bring him in, talk to him, explain the expectations again, and then go forward. 1-2 game suspension - that's my guess.

The "won't fit in IC" quote is from a bleacher report article linking to espn.com. I'd like to the bleacher report article, but I don't want to drive up their hits.
