Usually, the worst defensive team in the conference would be maybe 3-12 instead of 7-8 at this point.
Usually the conference isn't this bad too

I agree.
Two things contribute to this.
1) Iowa is something like 3rd in scoring. So, this whole topic of not having a PG is really fruitless. That's not the issue.
2) A team loaded with freshman and soph's are going to play inconsistent, which is what happened.

It is pretty funny that people say we need a point guard when we score so well.
We're 6th in the conference in Adjusted Offense
And that's "need a point guard" territory?
What the hell is adjusted offense? I need to know what that is first. It may have nothing to do with the output of points a team can have.
There has been some articles recently to the like. Discussing CM's talents as a baseball player. Saying he might go that route.
I've also heard prep school mentioned as a potential route. Why would a kid who's 6'5/6'6 well put together at 215, with a strong basketball IQ need to go to prep school if his goal is to play basketball? IMO he's probably closer to his full basketball potential than your average high school senior.
Lastly, it kind of goes hand in hand with me belief that he's a mid-major prospect. I've heard some Iowa fans even more optimistic than you about CM, thinking he's a program changing type recruit. If he plays basketball and isn't very good that becomes a tough situation for Fran, and maybe one they want to avoid.
As for the prep school talk. I think their is a possibility that Fran might redshirt Connor depending on further development of Jbo and CWill. It would also give Connor another year to play with Patrick. Prep school could be in play if the scholly doesn't open up. It is better to go play prep than to sit out a year I believe is the thought process there. Either way I am sure the scholly problem is gone. Dale Jones will Grad transfer at end of season. Bobble head night against Indiana pretty much sealed it in my mind.
Word! That little girl knows her stats lol.
Williams can't score and Bohannon can't defend. I think that's why people say we need to add a PG. Most other teams seem to have a PG that can do both
Kinda like Wagner can't score and Cook can't defend.
Okay I follow that logic as far as deciding between redshirting and prep school.
The question in that case becomes this. If he isn't good enough to crack the rotation next year, what makes us believe he would crack it the following year?
The only player set to graduate is Uhl, and we bring in a top 50 kid the following year in Joe W that probably plays more similar spots to CM than Uhl does.
As I mentioned in my previous post I don't see a ton of room for improvement for CM. IMO he's closer to his "ceiling" than your average prospect.
Good discussion though. I think more people probably think your way than mine currently.
Kettle calling the teapot out..... OK. and you just insulted young girls. Nice...
I'm not sure every redshirt decision is made based upon being good enough to crack the rotation or not. I think that Fran and Connor have discussed redshirting to avoid an early log jam for minutes and an extended year for Connor and Patrick to play together. Fran eluded to this directly when asked about his sons playing together at the fall I club luncheon. His answer was "It would be really special for 2 brothers to play together on the same team for 2 years. I think you could even maneuver it to be 3 years." You could tell the wheels were turning a little bit to dodge saying anything to specific as to violating NCAA rules about incoming recruits.
I'm skeptical that Connor is a program changing recruitas well. I do see him more of a role player for the team with 6th man potential. As I have said before though I do think that Connor brings a court savvy and skill set of penetration that we don't have a ton of. How it matures and develops on the D1 level is anyone's guess. I see potential to be good. I just dont assess true star potential. I am downright adamant that Wieskamp and Pat Mac are potential program changers. We are also in early on 2 more program changers in McCorkle and Foster.
Fran needs to push a couple of guys out and add an impact guard otherwise we're probably not going to be much better next year
