I am worn out from reading this entire thread in one sitting. But, I can add a few things, maybe.
1. Re-read all of Knight's posts. He makes more sense than the vast majority of the "other stuff" I read.
2. Quote from Jess Settles: "Jordon B. is one of the best freshman point guards in the country." I think I will stay with Jess when it comes to that evaluation.
3. Brady Ellingson is one of the most solid defensive players on this team. If you can't see it, you better study up. Might also want to listen to Fran on this topic. Moss is going to be a nightmare for other teams as a lock down defender. Take it to the bank. Good grief! Have you watched him? No, not consistent, yet.
4. Hopefully, some of you learned from watching the development of JB, of Williams, of Kriener, so far, that you may want to wait until you sign their transfer papers...which many of you were doing a couple of weeks into the season and even more recently as the year has gone along.
5. As to "rim protectors" and interior defense in general: We have plenty of guys who can do that. Tyler is 6'9" and very strong. He is just flat out green and trying to find his way. Never had to play defense, I expect. Pemsl and Kriener have great potential and each has a nice mean streak to his game. They are both around 6'9" or maybe even Kriener at 6'10"? In short, this line of defense is absolutely the toughest to learn and will only get better with maturity and experience. They have to know when to help out, when to stay back, what angles to use, need to talk a lot and apparently need to learn to foul consistently without getting caught.
6. I hope Garza can add to the interior defense. Guess we will see. But I think we have some great potential already.
7. News Flash. There is no such thing as a perfect point guard. JB is a deadly 3 point shooter. He has a great assist to turnover ratio. He is a very fine ball handler. He reads the floor well and establishes good patterns on the motion offense. His free throw percentage is very high and other than Peter, he is the best in the clutch on the team. (56: A couple of snowflakes don't make a blizzard. Yeah, he missed a couple in the IL game at a bad time. Only thing worse is you judging his free throw abilities with one example, so I won't dwell on the fact that he hit 4 in a row down the stretch against the Hosers). JB lacks explosive quickness, both on O and D, but he is not slow. I think he will learn to compensate with more experience, and we may not even notice this fault down the road. His choices on passing will get better, but he is pretty darn good for his tender age.
Finally, I love irony. I keep reading that we need a point guard who can blow by a defender and get to the rim and then make the shot in a forest of 6'9"+ defenders. We also need a point guard who can stop the other point guards in the big ten from doing just that. BTW, we really need to rebound better.
