Ferentz going after PSU players

When the coach of said team holds you up as doing the classy thing, that is enough for me.
I am not saying there is anything wrong with it. But there are plenty of people on this board that think we are too classy, or whatever the proper word would be, to go after their players.

Their thoughts on the matter, not mine.

I see nothing wrong with it and nothing wrong with doing it on the first day, for that matter.

My point on 2010 isn't that there were players available, only that I am not of the mindset that Iowa had the players and just underachieved. As soon as Gettis and MacMillan went down Iowa went into a tailspin.

Now, would there have been a JUCO guard that Iowa could have signed as depth in case one of the line starters went down? Maybe, but it is hard to tell in retrospect.

Now, I would say that they should have done something at LB. That spot was obviously thin and you could have promised a transfer that at least he would get ST reps and most likely game reps.

Therein lies the rub, though. You can't predict injuries, and once they happen there's nothing you can do about it midseason. All you can do is plug the next guy in, and I don't expect our 3rd string OL or 3rd string LB to produce at the level of the 1st or 2nd string guys. Most teams don't go 3 deep as far as depth that can be put in a game and play well consistently. Your expectations seem somewhat unrealistic.

My guess is that Iowa will see at least one player transfer or change their verbal and become a Hawk, only a guess but seems to be some smoke blowing in that direction in my mind.

I don't believe Ferentz would be one of the first reported to contact O'Brien directly about player/s if he hadn't already been approached by the player.

Another souce (SI.com) reports that many schools are pursuing PSU recruits now but very few have contacted O'Brien directly. I favor the Ferentz way in this particular case.

I can't see Silas redd going to Iowa, would you want to have to play your former team? I bet he goes to USC or at least another conference

I would have to agree with you here. In fact I think you are 100% correct.
I don't think Ferentz would call O'Brien unless one of the PSU players/recruits contacted Iowa to see if there is any room for him. Like you said, just doesn't seem like something KF would do.

As for the Illinois coaches being on PSU campus. That is ridiculous.

I agree about Ferentz not contacting unless they had heard from players. It really doesn't make sense to call and say anything if no players were interested.

That is correct

I would wager that at least one player got word to Iowa that he was interested, and then Iowa was also interested in that player. otherwise Kirk would not have made the contact and just stayed out of this story entirely.

Also, ESPN is saying Illinois sent 6 assistants to Happy Valley to talk with PSU players. Unreal.

Agree on everything here.

This is insane, and something that NCAA better fix next time. No reason for coaches to be there. Show some tact.

After reading threads regarding this topic over the past couple days I've come to the conclusion that there are several posters who will complain about anything regarding Ferentz. Cough cough CARRHawk... Cough cough THawk...

First he won't reach out to them and he sucks for that, now it's he didn't do it quick enough when you really have no idea what the timeline has been. Par for the course.

You say this in a thread where I repeatedly compliment Ferentz?

Reading comprehension, bra. Give it a shot.

Let it be noted that I only dog on Ferentz for gameday/player preparation issues, and never for his apparently (we're all relegated to qualifying these statements after the fall of JoPa) exemplary character or the stellar representation which he provides the U.

I like Ferentz. A lot. I wouldn't trade him. That doesn't mean I have to shut up and not levy criticism.

Oh. My. God.

It's pretty much mandatory to hate Illannoy. What dirt.

This tweet from PSU player Adrian Amos:

We have chosen to stay at Penn State and opposing coaches are outside our apartment, was that the intention of the NCAA? #comeonman

How the hell are they(opposing coaches) running their operation over their? Are they making arrangements by phone to set up an office campus meeting or are they just stalking players around town with scholarship papers in their hands? FFS!
