Did anyone listen to Iowa State's News Conference today?

ISU has a long history of bad behavior after losing football games.

I knew a guy who was the Olympia beer distributor for the state of Nebraska. He had his RV painted red and took a keg of beer for tailgating purposes to all games, home and away. One year in Ames Nebraska staged a 4th quarter comeback and beat ISU at the end of the game. As they were trying to leave the parking lot, enraged ISU fans got on both sides of the RV and started pushing it, swaying it trying to turn it on its side. The guy said they didn't get it done but as he was sitting in the driver's seat he said he though for sure they were going to be turned on the side. He was never so happy to get out of a parking lot!

so that deserves an attack?
-Pollturd neglected to point out the sexual assault part of the accusation when he was listing those off.

Do we know for a fact that this was reported to anyone the UI (athletic department, ombudsmen, WRAC) or any law enforcement agency?

This, to me, is a pretty critical question. I'd like an answer to it. My sense (totally based on MY thoughts reading between the lines of the President's remarks to the DI....AND the rather vague Tweet from the band members....which could be all wrong), that this wasn't necessarily reported as of the time of his sit-down with the DI.

If it was reported, they sure as shit better provide a little more clarity on what was reported and when. And what they did about it. And, we may have to accept the answer "Uh, no video. Chaotic scene. The police escorts, ushers, and staff have been interviewed, and we've got no chance at identifying anyone."

Otherwise, the rest of it, frankly....is a bunch of noise. And not terribly unexpected after that horrid game. Sure. It's bad. But, to me, doesn't reflect on ISU fans in general or on ISU itself as a whole.

"so that deserves an attack?"

I'm not saying anything was 'deserved'. What I AM saying is that unnecessarily marching band members into a crowd that just lost a close rivalry game, forcing THEM to get out of the way in crowded, tight quarters...is asking for trouble. The band actually initiates the contact with ISU fans -- that's a fact. And beyond stupid if you want to protect your instrument, and your health. Watch the video.

We beat those clowns on their home turf and their high school opponents last week didn’t even show up. Of course they are going to treat last week’s fans better due to their self sacrifice on the ISU alter.

We broke their tender little hearts. Some of their delusional fans went into their delusional rage realizing their fantasies of a nation title just went down the eye of the cyclone. :(:(:(:mad::mad::eek:

PC, I love ya, but you are buying into Pollards lies and versions of events. He is totally Victim blaming here, he WANTS everyone to think the band is to blame. Pollard FAILED to address these things during his press conference.

-Why did the ISU director of facilities have to offer a written apology for screaming at the Band Director to “get the **** off his field”? Don’t ya think that might have a little to do with maybe the band not following that assholes suggestion. Not only that, but maybe if that guy doesn’t scream at the band, they sit and wait until more people leave. Still lots of question here, but Pollturd wants you to to believe that Iowa just marched there for no good reason, after reasonable being told to go elsewhere. Well we know that the band was already being screamed at by ISU staff, they well could have been just trying to comply with ISU director of facilities.

-Pollturd neglected to point out the sexual assault part of the accusation when he was listing those off.

-He tries to equate his bands experience at Iowa to this, so if he doesn’t like “unfounded accusation” why is he spouting them off himself.

Dont buy into Pollturds version of events for one second PC, he is full of shit and is lying to spin his story to ISU gets out from under this.

I'm not buying anything. I said "if" it's true. And I stand behind that. Instigating an ass whooping and then getting your ass whooped is nowhere near as bad as getting your ass whooped for no reason at all. I have no idea what happened. All I said was IF that happened, it wasn't as bad as I originally thought.

Straight from a member of the UI band staff - the band was given clear instructions on how to enter the field and the route to take in. They were not, however, given any information about what the plan was after the game other than being told where their buses would be. It *might* have been assumed by the higher ups at ISU that the band would just exit where they entered, but since the buses were at the opposite end of the stadium from where they entered they went out the closest gate to their buses to attempt to minimize the time they were in the middle of the crowds.

The band was hanging around in the stadium and waiting for the crowds to clear when they were *asked* to vacate the stadium by an ISU employee, at which point they went ahead and formed up for the march to their buses. After the verbal abuse in the stands and by the actual employee asking them to leave they took the most direct route (verbal abuse comments are my own and not a direct statement from the band staff member).

This is why they went out the gate they did at the time that they did and anyone stating otherwise does not actually have the facts or doesn't care about the facts.

If ISU staffer kicked the band off the field into the crowds then he needs fired. Simple as that. ISU fans can live with the knowledge that some of their own are nasty debased humans who assault young adults over a sporting event. That should be punishment enough if no individual perpetrators can be identified.

Iowa band still needs to realize that playing the instruments should have ceased under the threat of powder keg. It was not the wisest decision in hindsight.

Let's analyze where this band incident has gone.
  • Saturday Iowa Band has a bad experience in Ames.
  • Sunday word spreads that the Band has reported problems to UI officials
  • Monday morning word is that everyone involved will work to prevent future issues.
  • Monday afternoon the band goes public with their version of events because UI officials did not sufficiently address the band concerns.
  • Monday evening Pres. Herrald steps in and says the series maybe cancelled.
  • Tuesday morning Iowa State responds that Band complaints were some of their own fault. Brings out the ISU Pres, Ames Police and Pollard to dismiss the complaints.
So here we are with Iowa essentially saying they don't care if they play ISU and ISU pushing hard to keep the series alive. This is like an arranged marriage in some ways. The two schools were forced into a marriage 40 years ago, its never been a happy marriage, and now one of the spouses in this marriage has been assaulted and is threatening divorce. The other spouse doesn't want a divorce and says its actions doesn't warrant a divorce. The hurt spouse now has a decision to make; file for divorce or live on in an unhappy marriage. Are there irreconcilable differences?

And with the series 5-0 the last five years...one spouse is tired of being bent over all the time but doesn't want to or is afraid to give up on the marriage. It's kind of a Stockholm Syndrome type of thing. They are getting abused every year, but bond with their abuser. I believe the more clinical explanation is "I like being your bitch syndrome".

Here's a non violent personal story I'd like to share that pretty much explains the mindset of Iowa State supporters. Years ago, I forget exact year, but ISUs big back was Dwayne Crutchfield. I was seated with a friend in the north end zone at Jack Trice. Along came the ISU cheerleaders and they stoppex directly in front of us. They proceeded to unfurl a banner and held it up for us to see and then turned to let the crowd see what was on it to a tremendous roar from ISU fans. The banner read as follows: Fu** Hayden Fry and Fu** Iowa. How classy huh? We even lost.

As an individual, I would have stepped aside and allowed the band the right of way, just like I do at Kinnick, or anywhere else. The actions of the ISU fans as reported are inexcusable. Flipping the bird, taunting, yelling, etc. OK. I don’t like it. But, when you put your hands on someone without their permission, that is dead wrong.

I sorted through the posts in this thread and your description summarizes clearly and accurately what occurred. Thank you.

I would expect that last paragraph out of you

Like a girl wearing tight clothes is fair game....ok

Do people think that some people are saying it's ok to get sexually assaulted because they were instigating? I've said that IF the band was instigating a crowd full of pissed off drunk people, it's not surprising that something happened. If someone instigated a fight with me, I would probably just laugh at them. But one of the hundreds of people around me would more than likely do something. To me, if you instigate a pissed off person, you should be ready for repercussions. If someone was groped, that's entirely different. Taunting drunk people is a good way to get your ass kicked (still wrong of the person who does it) but it is no reason for sexual assault.

Couple things here PC. Why is playing the Iowa fight song Instigating anything? Why is walking in a crowd of ISU fans instigating anything? Pollard says they were pushing people, but that is the type of ALLEGATION that he is mad at for Iowa making that people were assaulted. He doesn't have any video evidence of the Iowa band pushing or forcing their way through anything. So Pollturd wants to tell you that assaults didn't happen because there we no police reports, so therefore the Iowa band didn't push or force or instigate anything because there are no police reports of that either. Pollturd is the worst kind of weasel. He tells you Iowas version didn't happen, but HIS VERSION is fact.

As far as the rape comparison goes, I think what people are trying to tell you is that you are using the same RATIONAL/DEFENSE as the "she deserved it" line. You are saying that since the Iowa band did something that might upset an ISU fan (playing a fight song) that they shouldn't be surprised that they got assaulted. Well for years and years the rational/defense was if a woman dressed a certain way she shouldn't be surprsied that she got sexual assaulted.

I get the analogy and it makes sense, but sometimes with analogies, one can be wrong and the other can be not as wrong. That's the case with this analogy. Dressing a certain way only makes you hotter. You don't deserve to get raped because you look hot. You never deserve to be raped period. But I will say this. You can put yourself in a position where you're more likely to be raped by making choices. It doesn't make it less bad by the person who raped you. But it can make you think "that was a bad idea".

If you are sitting at a restaurant andsomeone comes up and mugs you, it's wrong of the person who mugged you. If you walk down an alley at night in a bad neighborhood and get mugged, its equally as wrong for the mugger, but maybe you set yourself up for failure a little bit.

As far as discrediting Pollard's story goes, I don't really have an opinion on whether his story is true or not. That's not even the point in this whole he said she said deal. All I did was say my opinion on what I thought IF it was true. I never gave my opinion on if I thought it was nor do I have one. IF it's TRUE, the band set themselves up for failure. They didn't "get what was coming to them". They didn't "deserve it". They set themselves up for failure.

I think you are way off base on this one. Even if the band did go into that Cyclone crowd to do a "victory lap" in no way should they have expected to be ASSAULTED for that. For instance, did you see Tyler Cooks video he took after Iowa won the game, he was doing a victory lap, should he have been worried about being assaulted?

Plus you act like the Iowa band was in a "bad neighborhood" and should have been very, very wary. Why is that? They have been to dozens of away games, they have played their fight song hundreds of times. What exactly is the "dangerous" behavior here.

I'm sorry, but you are totally buying into Pollards narrative here, it is sad that people just still victim blame in many ways. While you keep saying "they didn't deserve that" you make excuses for why it did happen, and place some of the blame on the victim cause "they should have expected it".
