Did anyone listen to Iowa State's News Conference today?

1630 AM in E. Iowa carried it live. It was Pollard, the isu President and I think one or two others. It was entertaining to say the least. They did say that one of the Iowa Football teams buses was vandalized by isu fans, they smashed a window and threw other obejects at the teams bus (before the players/coaches were on it.) Pollard made it sound as if the Iowa band marched into isu fans on purpose (Pollard said the IA band marched into an area that they weren't suppose to be in.) They said one band member tried to get into a bldg which a security guard said no, they said the band member became verbally aggressive. They also admitted that an Iowa band member was carrying a ladder and was shoved from behind by isu fans, that band member fell on the ladder and broke some ribs. Pollard also brought up how isu bands have been targeted while in Iowa City before (playing the victim card.) A reporter then asked Pollard if he ever contacted the U of Iowa in regards to past incidents, which Pollard never said yes or no, but beat around the bush on the subject. He then talked about how great isu fans are and how the team they played last week was gushing as to how great isu fans were towards them and how they were treated just wonderfully. It was kind of hard to listen to because they seem to be in denial about the whole thing. Pollard kept saying they have no real evidence, but admit to a band member getting ribs broken and Iowa's team bus attacked by isu fans.

JP is trying to draw moral equivalencies here to distract the public on how awful their fans treated the Iowa band. State that "there side did stuff too" to take the focus off the fact that his side acted far worse. It's not the first time this kind of bait and switch tactic has been used to try and confuse people in our culture. Shame on Jamie Pollard.

If the Iowa band was marching through an ISU crowd like the story suggests, of course something bad is going to happen. If it truly happened like that, the band deserved some of the blame for provoking.

Let's analyze where this band incident has gone.
  • Saturday Iowa Band has a bad experience in Ames.
  • Sunday word spreads that the Band has reported problems to UI officials
  • Monday morning word is that everyone involved will work to prevent future issues.
  • Monday afternoon the band goes public with their version of events because UI officials did not sufficiently address the band concerns.
  • Monday evening Pres. Herrald steps in and says the series maybe cancelled.
  • Tuesday morning Iowa State responds that Band complaints were some of their own fault. Brings out the ISU Pres, Ames Police and Pollard to dismiss the complaints.
So here we are with Iowa essentially saying they don't care if they play ISU and ISU pushing hard to keep the series alive. This is like an arranged marriage in some ways. The two schools were forced into a marriage 40 years ago, its never been a happy marriage, and now one of the spouses in this marriage has been assaulted and is threatening divorce. The other spouse doesn't want a divorce and says its actions doesn't warrant a divorce. The hurt spouse now has a decision to make; file for divorce or live on in an unhappy marriage. Are there irreconcilable differences?

Well, when one spouse makes almost all the income while the other can’t even bother to make a decent dinner...

Today is the first that I have heard of one of the Iowa football teams buses being attacked by isu fans. For crying out loud, they smashed one of the windows. That is a violent and aggressive act!!

Ah the old "she was asking for it" defense.

To an extent, yes. But more along the lines of don't poke the bear. If the story is true. If the iowa band was fighting their way through an ISU crowd, while playing songs, they were more than likely instigating. If I walk through an ISU crowd and dont say a word, then get punched, its 100% their fault. If I walk through an ISU crowd and talk shit the whole time until someone finally punches me, is it still 100% their fault? I say no.

Again, this is all based on if the story is true. They are painting a picture that the band was doing things to piss off the crowd. If true, whoever's idea it was to do that needs to be talked to.

We're done here.

Dude. That push was assault. Period.

You claim you are an Iowa fan, but you sure seem to be on the side of isu.

No, it would still be the idiot who punched you's fault.
Is it a smart thing to do, no.
But for the love of God, violence because of that just shows a complete lack of self-control and an inclination to violence.
Buying into the "she was asking for it" defense shows a lack morals.

Pollard is selling it hard. Looks like you might be buying it.

Jamie Pollard sucks the big one since the says his band has had problems in Iowa city but cant say he ever reported it or did anything about it and when we add in he is now blaming the the band for walking back to their buses which had been attacked with the band.
