Bad Day for Da Haters

ISU was 8-5. They lost to Iowa and almost lost to Drake.
They had one good win. (West Virginia)
Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, TCU and Okie State all had down years.
I am amazed at all the Hawk fans that are shitting all over the Hawkeyes while praising the Clowns.
I can't wait for the hawks to go into Ames and kick their asses again next year for their 5th win in a row and 6th out of seven.
Their freshman qb looks pretty good against the soft defenses of the Big 12. Ditto the pretend defense they faced in their bowl game. Will be different when they face the Iowa D again.

We are pretty much always just 1 star QB away from actually playing for a National Championship.

Brad, Ricky, and CJ all got very very close. None were bonafide stars as hindsight has been kind enough to establish. I guess we are still looking and waiting for that guy. That future Payton Manning guy. If we get him before Ferentz hangs it up, I could see us at least making the playoffs. I really don't know how we will ever beat an Alabama team though. Pray that someone else takes them out before we have to play them I guess.

Iowa will make the playoffs someday and it will be when the playoffs are expanded, which most certainly will happen, but to win it all you will have to beat a Alabama type caliber team to do it..

I thought Iowa would either win/lose a low scoring game or Iowa would get blown out. I was wrong on both, but I doubt anyone foresaw Iowa hanging 3 touchdowns on a team that only gave up 3 touchdowns to Alabama. I don't think anyone believed Iowa would THROW 3 touchdowns against a team that only gave up 4 passing TD's all year.

Looking at the box score is really f'ing weird. -15 rushing yards, 1 for 11 on 3rd downs, under 200 yards of offense, Iowa lost the time of possession battle, gave up nearly 200 yards on the ground. Take away the Easley 75 yard touchdown and Iowa has 125 yards of offense on the day. None of that spells successful football.

Also, looking at the scoring drives by both teams is really weird too...
1 play 75 yards
2 plays 13 yards
3 plays 6 yards
1 play 33 yards
6 plays 32 yards

Just a weird game all around.

Yep, weird all around. Iowa lost the time of possession battle but they had the most time consuming drive of the game. On their 3rd possession they had a 10 play drive that chewed up 5:43 on the clock. The drive went for 49 yards and they ended up with a field goal, but 30 of those yards came from 2 personal foul penalties on MSU.

Some of the love is from Clown fans masquerading as Hawkeye fans. It is really easy to do on a free board.

We beat Iowa of the SEC. We were mirrored opponents. Both had stout defenses, but inept offenses and that’s exactly how it played. Iowa nearly always plays well when they are playing a one dimensional team like this as everything is put on the shoulders of the defense. The only thing kf lacks is a dominant punter as he loves playing the old electronic football game field position battle. The 8 penalties for 90 yards to zero Iowa penalties was a major advantage. Miss St had a td called back and had a guy called down at the 1 and they proceeded to settle for a field goal. Both significant turning points. Outside the easley seam route, we had 125 yards of offense folks as kirk stubbornly played phone booth football with them until they all but begged us to throw to the walk on. Luckily, their coach was every bit the “aw shucks” that kirk is and we did just enough to win. For the 100th time, kudos to the Iowa defense for bailing everyone out. Not sure gervase is the hero everyone wants to make of him as left a wide open receiver in the end zone while he guarded the end line but he did a good job of putting his hands up to keep the deflected pass from sticking in his facemask. Here’s to 2019 when we attempt to beat more than one p5 team with a winning record during the regular season while staving off the mighty clowns that look all the part as being ready to finally lay claim to the state for a while. In my opinion, if our offensive issues aren’t addressed for real, we aren’t going to like that series in the coming yrs.

I certainly agree that Iowa must upgrade their punting game. It is hard to be a dominant defensive team without a dominant punting game. Kirk has had that in previous seasons, but certainly not the last 2 or 3 years

we've only had one successful season (2015). if your not sniffing the big 10 championship game/playoffs the rest is just meaningless.

i'm sick of this loser 8 or 9 win talk.

if youre not in the playoffs the season was a disappointment

Well, I guess Iowa State has had about 107 years of being meaningless. 1912 was their last championship in football.

Shit, look at how many Hawk fans praised 4-8 Nebraska.

Let them prove they can get back to bowl eligibility first, then praise them.

BTW, they should get back to bowl eligibility next season.

If you're going to keep on hating, at least get your facts straight. The play called back by holding late in the first half was not a TD. It was at the two yard line.

The reason they guy was called down at the one was because he was down at the one. Hankins made a great hustle play, and in the end he saved four crucial points.

Our phone booth football went on to score seventeen more points after the Easley seam route. Against the top ranked scoring defense in Division One. Doesn't sound like phone booth football to me.

Gervase, while beaten on the pattern, was not guarding the endline. But, like Tyler Sash from yesteryear, he didn't give up on the play. He was rewarded, lucky or not.

I saw the game. Don't try to slide what you wanted to think you saw past me. It won't work.

Personally, I just try to be grateful in life.
You have an excellent post. Almost as good as the girl in the bikini post in another thread. Almost. :)
Some people could find something to bitch about lying next to her, ya know?
She probably eats crackers in bed...

Iowa wins 9 games and beats an SEC team in a New Years bowl game. (and beats ISU)
ISU wins 8 games and loses to a soft PAC 12 team in a lesser bowl. (loses to Iowa and was one play from losing to *******DRAKE))

Your take on the season is ISU is up and coming and Iowa sucks.
Real smart guy..
Also, ISU beat only 1 power 5 team in their Regular season with a winning record. (West Virginia) Okie State and Baylor were both 6-6.

My eyes watching the game told me that Miss. St. was hard pressed to score points unless set up with good field position by an Iowa turnover. Same thing for Iowa. The game was about turnovers and short fields. It isn't like Miss. St. turned the ball over 5 times to Iowas 1 time.

Iowa scored 17 points off TO with short fields, and Miss. St. scored 13 points off TO with short fields. Take those away and Iowa's offense managed to scored 10 points to Miss. St. 9 points (3 FG). The last I checked the game is about scoring points. Who cares if Miss. St. gained 29 yards then punted, or if Iowa lost 5 yards and then punted, both drives ended in punts. The bottom line is Iowa's offense produced more points than the Miss. St. offense both with the aid of TO, and without the aid of TO.
Your eyes didnt see Mississippi State run all over Iowa's defense?....190 yards is a big chunk of change. You didnt see the dropped passes by their receivers, the trips into the red zone that produced fg's? Of course stats dont determine the outcome of the game. But to say that we were better than Mississippi State is just blind euphoria. I didnt say we didnt deserve to win. We earned it. I can evaluate what i saw. The stats dont lie. We had trouble stopping/tackling them (190 rush yds), they had no trouble stopping us (-15). We had one big pass play and two 20 yd plays to Hockensen on the final drive that added up to 115 of our total yards. The rest of the game we struggled. Our defense came up big. They won the game along with a few key pass plays from our offense. But the eye test alone clearly revealed they are the better team. The fact that we made plays when it mattered makes us the victor, not the better team. If you cant admit to the fact that sometimes the better team doesnt win, review the Iowa vs Iowa State series (before the last 5-6 years) or any Iowa victory over Michigan, Ohio State or Penn State in recent seasons. You still celebrate it, but we werent the better team.

Both sides can do that ya know? Our D gave up a those rush yards, but their D gave up those passing yards and touchdowns through the air. Rushing was their strength, and passing was Iowa's strength. You can't take away ANY plays, if you are, you are doing so just to prove your point, but without those plays, you don't have a point.

Iowa was better prepared, better coached, they had the better QB, they had the better defense. Iowa even gifted MSU 2 turnovers and GREAT field position to let them back in the game. Iowa was the only team that lead by double digits. Every time MSU punched, Iowa answered. MSU may have been the better team this season and they may have better talent, but on this day they weren't. In this game they weren't. The play on the field proved it.

Who cares what the rushing yards were? They made more mistakes than us, so good for us, some of those mistakes were forced, others were self inflicted, they all count. Last I knew the winners of a football game is the one who scores more points.

The very case you make about Miss. St. could be made for Iowa vs Wisconsin, Penn St., Northwestern and Purdue. We coulda/shoulda beat those guys, but we DIDN'T. We made too many mistake, and didn't take advantage of their miscues and we lost those games. So we are supposed to cry bitch and moan when we CAN'T take advantage and win a game, and CRY, BITCH, and MOAN when we DO TAKE ADVANTAGE? JFC man it's got to be exhausting to be Da Hater in a victory.

Can't argue with people that bury their heads in the stats....those are the REAL "eye tests". I mean 190 yards rushing....wow, Iowa SUCKED at stopping the run. Never mind that a lot of those rushing yards was the quarterback scrambling. You see the stats, and that's that. Fitz had a run for 33 yards, granted that was a designed run play and for whatever reasons Iowa had 5 missed tackles. Never mind that they held their running back (Hill) to 3.6 yards per carry when he averages over 6.

Guys, let's face it....Iowa got lucky. They had no business winning that game, MSU was WAY better than the Hawkeyes.

It's soooo obvious in reading peoples posts who really watched the game and who just looked at the stats. Or they may have watched the game but their uneducated eyes has to wait until the stats came out to truly analyze what they think happened.

And Iowa lost 4 games this year because we shot ourselves in the foot..
WTF is your point?
Iowa won the football game it could well have lost yesterday.
Iowa lost 4 games this year they could well have won.
At the end of the day, nobody gives a shit how you win or lose. only that you won or lost.
It doesnt change the fact that they were better than us. We were better than Wisconsin, Purdue and Northwestern. Does it offend you that i say that even though we lost? Why is it offensive to point out the obvious? Its self-reflection. Successful teams and organizations do it daily in order to improve. Yes, we won. You can evaluate a win or a loss. I take it you never coached varsity level competition. Statistics are one measure of production. Analysis of our statistical production vs their production would put the odds of victory as very low. But, thank God there is a scoreboard that is affected by a few certain events (scoring plays) to determine the winner. We obviously had more of those events in our favor. Im not saying we shouldnt have won or didnt deserve to win, i'm saying i think they are the better team. My opinion. Stats and the eye test support it. The scoreboard disagrees. Go Hawks!

No one is arguing who won the game. Your argument is we are better because we won. No, we are the 2019 Outback Bowl Champions because we won this game. They are the more talented team. The Villanova Wildcats were the 1985 NCAA Div 1 National Basketball Champions because they beat Georgetown. They werent the best basketball tean in 1985. They are recognized as national champions still.

and you're right, you're entitled to your opinion. I know you aren't hating either. IMO, Iowa was better. They were the only team that lead by double digits. In my opinion, Iowa was the one who really shot itself in the foot with 2 turnovers and letting them back into the game. They were better coached, better disciplined and better in every aspect sans rushing. Which, IMO, is 1 aspect of the game that determined several aspects like TOP and total yards. They had a hell of defense, but IMO, Iowa made them pay through the air where they couldn't guard a kid that only had D1 offers to be a punter.
