I heard on the radio today that people who really suffer from the virus, that it can turn their face and lips blue.

Also, a doctor suggested that of you do carry out food from a restaurant that you either heat it up when you get home in the oven or microwave to kill the virus if it were by chance on your food.

Someone in Linn County (Cedar Rapids area) just passed away due to the virus

It's all better discussion than COVID 19.

I thought of Cubs as it was on my mind.

Since 1997 fully one third of wild card teams have won the Series.

By todays divisions the 82 SF Giants would be in the hunt post season and were the hottest team in BB with a bunch of aging stars.

Rene Martin....all 79 mph of him was dominating till the end when he had to face both the Dodgers and Braves with their backs against the wall.

If the Giants could have picked up Chapman late..... Or had Bum to pitch a bunch...

My point is that in modern times, 162 is somewhat moot.

It's to generate revenue. They don't do double headers the same anymore due to revenue.
Well when your talking about a five or seven game postseason series a lot of things can go out the window, hence all the wild card teams winning.

But 162 games has long been considered a bell cow standard for who the best team is in the regular season.

And you are old enough to remember when only four teams made the postseason, and may be old enough to remember when there were ten team leagues and only two teams played postseason.

No way do Tom Kelly's Twins teams make postseason in the old days, and take advantage of that Metrodome home field and all its quirks the way they did.

Shrink the regular season to 144, 124, or 100 games and you bring regular season randomness into play, which I suppose might inject young fans into a game who's age demographic gets older and older.

But if their team starts the season 12-30, even with all the wild card teams, that gives their team less time to turn it around and may cause their fans to lose interest. Last year's world champion Nationals were 19-28 or something like that in late May, but had time to right the ship and steadily playing themselves into contention, the go all the way. In a 100 game season, or even a 120 game season, they wouldn't have as much time.

Dude, what are you smoking? The source tweet is a computer virus expert, not human virus. The study he cited does not even say what he said.

Any so called academic studies so far would be on the anecdotal side which generally says smoking does contribute.

Fauci this morning as saying "millions of cases, 100,000 deaths" is a middle of the road benchmark.

That is bad enough, but not apocalyptic. I said a week ago that we would hit 1 million cases because some would take shelter orders seriously and some would not.

Several medical and political people are beginning to announce a mid April peak. If true, and if people listen, we may be able to get this country going again in about a month, especially is less hard hit areas.

We would obviously have to watch for "hot spots" to rekindle. But numbers are going to shoot up again this week and the media bubs will be all over it until the numbers become more linear.

You're missing the point. Just because I post something, doesn't mean I agree with it.

The first year I can remember is 1971. I read about Mays in boy's life and watched the Giants on a black and white tv. No clue why I remember this , I remember Tito Fuentes taking an ankle high pitch over the fence.

In the end it's all rather random. Would still like to see a rule where a player has to be on a team over half a year. That would reduce teams unloading salary later in a year which makes the schedule less influential.

Tito Fuentes was a favorite of mine.

When Billy Williams came up and Candlestick had the artificial turf he would position himself sixty feet into the outfield, and he had great range going to his right to strat with, like Sandberg did.

The first major league game I attended, in 1974, featured Hank Aaron playing n Wrigley Field three months after he broke Babe Ruth's record. I recognized the importance of this as a nine years old boy and i have never forgotten it.

I'm not the one being uncivil. If all you guys want to do is argue, you should start your own message board.
Last week he accused the jimokes on this board, like me and you and others, of having the power to influence the minds of grown adults, like we were Jim Jones or someone, and requested that Rob shut down this thread.

The 82 Giants came from 13 back in early Set I think to tie w 2 left or something like that. My first game was a double header...White Sox v A s. The A s were loaded. Sox had big name vets too.

The return to semi-normalcy would be aided greatly if some really smart people come up with some good cell phone tracking apps.

Out of curiosity, how many would be fine giving up some privacy rights to allow such an app to track your whereabouts? I am generally not a fan of anyone having too much info on me, but it seems that cell phone companies already have this data and are selling to companies for purposes of targeted marketing; as long as they are doing that, might as well save some lives with it.

This is false, there have been no reported cases of the COVID virus transferred by food. In fact there is no scientific evidence that proves the virus can be killed by high heat from a microwave on anything let alone food.

Something like that (a tracking app) was used in Chicago and the powers that be gave them a A for abiding by social distancing.

But in the last four days Chicago has started to ramp up as well. It is too big, and too densely populated a city not to be vunerable.

It was reported that two members of the Chicago Cubs family (not players) tested positive on the 23rd and 24th respectively for something that took place on March 8th, proving if accurate that the incubation period can extend even beyond fourteen days. Who knows if the incubation period can, in rare cases, extend to thirty days or more. That is the truly scary part of this thing.

There are a number of Doctors claiming the regimen is yielding good results. Let's hope it proves out.

Yes, I read a Univ of Minn Prof of Medicine is doing several trials one of which is the hydroxychoriquine, The professor said that with a lot of infected people and people in contact with infected people there is no shortage of getting people quickly into trials which can speed up results.

I didn’t request to shut down the thread.

And Northside, while i consider you wrong on your outlook regarding this virus. I don’t really see you posting the same level of misinformation like TK.

More info about hydroxychloroquine and COVID (exerpts from article below):

The University of Washington, the University of Michigan and other academic medical centers have added hydroxychloroquine to their treatment protocols. “Hydroxychloroquine is an inexpensive and generally safe drug for short term use, with few drug-drug interactions,” the University of Washington protocol says. “While it is unknown if it is effective to treat COVID-19, there is a favorable risk:benefit and cost ratio. Multiple trials are ongoing, and this recommendation will be updated when further data is available.”

--------------------------------------------------------------

One small study in France seemed to suggest that hydroxychloroquine, combined with azithromycin, could work as a treatment for COVID-19. A different small study out of China suggests that hydroxychloroquine was not effective in patients compared with those who did not get the medication.

Where in my post do I insuinate any of this?

YOU brought up steroids, PED's, the Astros, and Wade Boggs' off the field promiscuity. I didn't.

It seems as if you are admonishing me for being a baseball fan. MYOB buddy, that was an idiotic post.

Well I guess I will say that MLB is not important hardly at all in any respect at this time. You made a bunch of posts about how MLB could design their rosters and schedules to get the most out of their season. Yeah that is maybe something to talk about when the time comes that people can get out and congregate.

About the only thing important with sports right now is that with them being stopped a lot of working people are out of jobs and they probably do not make a ton of money anyway working concessions parking etc. So who cares if baseball players make money like movie stars. The other thing is that sports does give people an outlet especially in these types of times.

I would have no problem with the sports leagues playing their games in empty arenas but having them televised so that some of the people like support staff, camera people, some reporters etc could keep getting a paycheck. Anyone involved would have to sign a waiver covering they give up rights to sue for getting sick. The psychological positives from being couped up inside but having some live sports to watch could actually help a lot of people's mood.

What about assigning seats that are 10 feet apart and having a limited live audience. And then you would need the Seat Police in attendance to tell people to stay away from each other which would be more paychecks.
