A lot of smoke(coaches defecting)

Iowa has never had great depth at the WR position since Ferentz arrived. They've always had one or two above average guys, and then a bunch of mediocre to poor players after that. It's the obvious position that needs upgraded. What worries me is that we brought in Greg Davis. His offensive schemes in combination with Ferentz's dedication to running the football is going to scare away any decently talented receivers. Frankly I wouldn't blame them one bit. Who would want to come play receiver at Iowa??? You get to block and run 5 yard routes 90% of the time. The Hawkeye receivers have been average in the Ferentz era. I'm afraid it's going to get much worse.

As opposed to being WR U in the years previous to KF.???

Just sayin...

Not Everything can be blamed on KF. 2 minute ineptness...yes. loyalty to a fault...yes. some of the attrition...yes. hiring (and subsequent retention) of a seemingly below average OC...yes.

Improvement, a bowl game, signs if continued improvement, and being competive in all games. This is what i want to see next year.

My sig might need slight updating, but for know i will stay with it.

I have no idea what I'm talking about because I don't agree with you? Imagine that. Someone disagrees with Ghost and they have no idea what they are talking about... surprise surprise.

I'm not deliberately trying to insult the Hawkeye recruits by calling them MAC level talent. I would argue that certain MAC teams have gotten more production out of their WR's than Iowa has actually. The Hawks can't get elite WR's to come to Iowa. Plain and simple. They can't even get the top WR's in the state of Iowa to come. That's my point. I can't blame them for wanting to go somewhere they will have a better chance at succeeding at a high level.

"Most programs run an offense based on short routes"

Yes, they do. However, most programs run an offense that mixes it up a little too. Iowa attempted to throw the ball down the field maybe two or three times a game this year. That type of offense is not going to attract top WR's.

yeah your current sig is pretty much spot on. well done

I Liked FUISU too, I liked Herk also. Guy was real smart. did tend to go off once in a while. Most of the good posters over there are gone.

Herk was good as well. Yeah it seems to be a ghost town over there.

For the most part this board is really active, we do still have the "haters" and people who call names from time to time but everywhere is going to have that.

Greg Davis puts receivers in the NFL. Young players know this and want to play for him. How can you not see this? Look at the players coming in? If anything, Campbell was holding us back. Good riddance.

Okay, Should I really be that excited?? Please let me know what I'm missing Ghost??

WR- Derrick Willies: Commit

Who cares? 6 figure income, job security for life regardless of performance, etc............They leave the Kirk Ferentz blanket at Iowa, theyre opening themselves up for having to perform to actually maintain their positions.

Maybe they don't perform because of the system and the leader of that system. Its easy to play follow the leader go work for a coach who wants to be the best and win every game and suddenly you are thinking more like an individual who brings something to the table. Not just a guy who can say and do things in practice only to have the worlds worst game day coach throw it all away with poor clock management and the big decisions.....Big Red or Juicy Fruit.

Maybe this thread should be titled "A lot of smoke (fans defecting)":)

Or "A lot of smoke everyone is talking like they are high and have the best idea's or insight ever...." I think its safe to say there are only two people on the staff who just straight up need to go and would better the program and Soup and Erb probably are not those two.

We stole a dude with an offer to Illinois State? Gonna be a top 5 season soon for sure.

Hey clown, you tell me was Dallas Clark a MAC level recruit? Robert Gallery? Ferentz and Doyle have forgotten more about player evaluation and development than you'll ever know.

Sounds like Kirk in his post season presser...remember a decade ago when we were good? What have you done for me lately?

Yeah its apparent they have forgotten anything positive that's for sure.

Umm last time I checked Robert Gallery and Dallas Clark aren't WR's. Has nothing to do with what I'm saying there genius.

Ok, genius, too bad we take walk ons and turn them into pros. We have had a lot of good WRs. Brodell would have absolutely played for a long time in the NFL if it weren't for that injury.

Tell that to coach K, last year and coach Soup this year. I think KF will make changes when he feels he needs to. But he does like coachs who dont jump at every oppertunity. I also dont understand why people dont get it that KF makes the big bucks based on the fact that Football supports the rest of the AD. Not many schools have a AD that is self supporting. That is very important in a day when so many State Goverments are broke. As long as the money keeps coming in his job is safe. The big money people love him from what I hear

According to the rumors, Soup wants to be an OC. That's not ever going to happen at Iowa, so he leaves. Kaz had a job offer from Nebraska and took it. There's a HUGE difference between firing someone, and not trying hard to bring them back if they have other options/goals. Kind of like the difference between playing to win, and playing not to lose.
