    Gregory/Forbes

Coming to Iowa as an asst would not be a good career move for Forbes.

Iowa does not want Forbes, the 2nd.asst.

Gillespie wanted to Forbes to come to UK as #1 asst. but Forbes turned him down to stay with Pearl. Pretty smart move if you ask me.

Iowa does not want Forbes, the 2nd.asst.

I think I know what you are talking about. That is when Forbes then started having a conversation with the officials while Pearl ran the time out. Working officials is a large part of what a HC does during a game.

    And now....

None. He is a sports agent now. His first client - Derrick Rose. Before that he was assistant GM for the Bulls under John Paxson.

    BREAKING: What Do We Know?

Didn't it feel good when Ronnie Lester was considered one of the best point guards in college basketball? That is the kind of talent I want to see on the floor, even if it is for only 1 year.

All the Verbal Fellatio for Forbes...

What holds back the program is that the program is not nearly as relevant as it used to be. What makes you think we can attract a successful big-time coach to Iowa City? If you want the program to be back on track, you need talent. Forbes can get that talent. The fact that he grew up 15...

An end to the "he's never been a head coach" argument

You'd rather just be a hater than actually do research beyond asking your dad if he has heard of Forbes.

    When Forbes is hired...

I disagree. Forbes' story is not about "local kid done good" - although there will be many articles about that in the P-C. He is a top notch recruiter who can get the talent in here that has sorely been lacking for a number of years. If you want a solid 19-11 record and #9 or #10 seed in the...

    This coaching search is amazing

Forbes is not necessarily a fallback. He is getting some press now and other programs looking to rebuild may take a harder look at him, especially with UT in the Sweet Sixteen. If Iowa treats him as a fallback they may miss their opportunity to spring forward.

    Here Is The Solution!

To further your point - x's and o's are not rocket science. There are only so many ways to break a 2-2-1 press. Recruiting is #1, but more important than x's and o's are in-game adjustments. Forbes, in addition to being a great recruiter, is a smart guy who is cool under pressure.

Don't understand the love affair with Forbes

It would be nice to recruit somebody who doesn't think of a "ball return" as the side of a barn.

    Here Is The Solution!

Forbes will not leave UT to be an assistant at Iowa. That would not be a wise career choice. If Barta brings in a mid major coach, I hope Steve Forbes is still available in 3-4 years. Mid major coaches recruit the leftovers and coach them up. Much like Iowa has been doing for the past 3...

Don't understand the love affair with Forbes

True. Because he is from Iowa is why he will stay long term and, I believe, create a legacy of winning basketball that Hawkeye fans can take pride in.

Don't understand the love affair with Forbes

You are right on Marc. I spent some time with Steve this summer and it was fascinating to listen to him describe the recruiting landscape at the big time level. He knows it like the back of his hand. btw - he turned 45 on Monday.

Don't understand the love affair with Forbes

Agreed. Forbes will be a head coach in D1 sometime soon and he will be very successful. If you are not a mid-major, recruiting is the name of the game. I would personally like to see him wearing black and gold.

    Pearl comments on Iowa

Re: Pearle comments on Iowa Agreed. He was being gracious and had some nice things to say about Iowa but he is staying where he is.

    Remember 3 years ago?

If you want to get some top talent to come to Iowa, I think it would be unwise to go after a mid-major coach. Bear with me in my logic - For the most part, mid-major coaches need to be better at evaluating undeveloped/underdeveloped talent. They recruit the guys that the big boys are not...
