Wow, Check Out This Nebraska Burn Over at USA Today...

Nebraska is in BIG trouble (pun intended). They are finding out what Iowa has known for 75 years: It is really tough to compete with Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin and now Penn State and Michigan State. Those schools are in dense population areas with fertile recruiting opportunities. Nebraska is a sparsely populated state in the middle of nowhere. It has no major metropolitan areas except for Omaha. It is not an elite academic institution (not even close). They are in an arms race now and they are losing (Minnesota, Iowa and Purdue have all upgraded their football facilities and Minnesota and Purdue have hired exciting new coaches). Nebraska made its bones in the Big 8 where the only real power was Oklahoma.

I predict they clean house and start over with a new AD and a new coach at the end of the year.

Correct me if I'm wrong because I frequently am, but doesn't Purdue's coach even make more than Riley?

I can't wait until they go down to C_USA to kick some azz!

Slow day at work today and I've been trying to hunt down this epic gif I saw on saturday. There was a super old lady at the Nebraska game wearing a pink coat and yawning right when the camera focused on her. It was f'ing hilarious and basically described Nebraska football to a T.
Had a friend show me that on Facebook (I'm the only person in my county without Facebook). I'll have him text it to me.

Very nice analysis.....!

Brohm makes $3.33M and Riley makes $2.9M....

Well Brohm earned his pay last week , maybe, but Purdue crushing Mizzou at Mizzou really surprised me. Is Mizzou really bad or has Brohm worked a miracle.

Nebby better watch out when they play purdue and others and Iowa better watch out for Purdue.

I just read a post on huskerboard where some disgruntled mullet-sporting, cut off mesh jersey wearing Joe Dirt said...

"F*ck this you guys. I am 100% serious that we need to pay Riley out and offer Chip Kelly $15 million a year. And no I'm not joking. We have the money, do something drastic to spark life back into this program."

Saw a funny comment from a Bug Eater yesterday. The discussion was about kicking Riley to the curb and this guy chimes in with... "I know we have a deep donor base but, Jesus H. Christ, do we have enough money to pay three coaches all at once?"

OR.....this is what life is like when you can't cheat in recruiting and stockpile 108 scholarship athletes and you can no longer keep a (future) murderer at I-Back.

Quote from the article.

"At 16-13 overall and 9-8 in the Big Ten under Riley, Nebraska is just another program. Regardless of where you think Nebraska fits in 2017, it certainly should be better than that."

Why should they be? By leaving the big12 they left what little recruiting base they had convincing the kids Texas and OK overlooked to come play for them. By not running the gimmick triple option crap they used to run you won't get the 5 star duel threat Athlete to carry your team. No one chooses to live in Nebraska. You are either born there and to ignorant to leave, or forced their as a last resort.

Nebraska will continue to be a middle of the road team regardless of their coaching staff and the only thing firing coaches for 7-5 seasons is going to do over there is convince kids not to go play there since they won't know if the coaches will be around an entire 4 years.

Hahaha that'd be terrible for them... I'd rather they do that then get Les Miles. (who was doing TV during their last game) I think he's chomping at the bit for that gig now that his kid is there. Miles would be a pretty darn good hire for them if they pulled the trigger on that. But they just extended Riley I don't see them doing that unless the wheels just totally fall off. That said they are well on their way to that possibly happening.

They only extended him a year because he was down to 3 years. Did it only for recruiting reasons. But let them get Les...he's older than Riley and his offenses make ours look like Oregon.
