Will Woodbury have a Similar Impact as Zeller?

Zeller is having an amazing season this year, shooting a ridiculous 65% from the field as the leading scorer and go to guy on a team that has beaten two top 5 teams. I don't see Woodbury having that kind of an offensive impact at all next year. I think he will be more of a solid defender/rebounder early on until he has some time in college to develop his offensive game. It will be interesting to see how Fran uses him on offense.

How is believing the basketball program blind? When Woodbury is a Sophomore, our team will look like this:

PG: Gessell (soph)
SG: Marble (senior)
SF: White (Junior)
PF: Basabe (senior)/McCabe (Senior)
C: Woodbury (sophomore)

Bench:
Oglesby (JR)
Meyer (So)
Ingram (So)
Clemmons (So)
Olaseni (JR)

How is looking at this lineup and proclaiming that we'll be Sweet-16 worthy blind? If anything, you're blind if you don't see this program's potential.

I like your optimism, but two of those guys haven't played any college ball yet.

No, but they have played a boatload of high school and AAU games. And the returns are in, frank: Gessel and Woodbury are really good. Likewise, Ingram, Clemmons and especially Meyer have turned heads. We know what we have in Marble and White: gotta feel good about those guys. We've seen a high ceiling indicator for both Basabe and McCabe. By my math, this team will have six players with all-conference potential (an operative word).

I don't know how you can look at the future of this program and not be excited. I swear, people are looking for reasons to be depressed about Iowa sports. Newsflash, folks: Iowa basketball is going to be better whether you're on the bandwagon or not. Hell, it already is.

There are kids every year that come into college with a great hs career that don't work out. A lot of them actually. Not saying woody or gessell are gonna flop....just that I'd let them play a year in the big ten before crowing them all conference or leaders on a sweet 16 team.

I'm done. If you want to go through life without inspiration, that's on you. However, I take pity that you cannot grasp how exciting Iowa basketball is about to be. I sincerely hope you enjoy the next few years, though. I know I will.

I think definitely when you include the others in the class. Right now we're rotating warm bodies off the bench. Next year we should be able to run for 40 mins. Boxing out and rebounding is a major problem. He impacts that immediately. Kyle meyer is someone I'm excited about as well. I expect to be a bubble team next year. Losing gatens hurts but oglesby should be better and clemons and gessell sound like scorers. Having shooters is good but I'd take an athletic defender that can get out in transition or get to the hole over shooters.

Don't forget Ingram. I think he is much better than some are giving him credit for. Should provide another ball handler and someone who can get to the rim consistently. I can't tell you how welcoming that is after watch that pathetic performance by Cartwright last night.

I'm not entirely certain what that clip was designed to prove, other than the fact that you have awful taste in movies and identify with losers. At any rate, you accused me of not being able to handle reality. Let's take some stock of reality:

We are in the midst of a season in which we are markedly better in all offensive categories, and are clearly better in wins and losses. Additionally, we have just signed the most respected recruiting class of the last 25 years of this program. To top it off, these signees address our sole statistical regress from last year: defense. Woodbury, Ingram and Clemmons are all defensive specialists. We lose only one senior of consequence and return a glut of talent at his position. We are significantly upgrading or seasoning our other clear weakness from this year's team: rebounding and post presence.

But no, you're right, I'm the one who is unable to grasp the reality of the situation. Because we lost to Northwestern.

Yeah, that didn't work out too well, did it? I guess I was proverbially done. As in: "exhausted," "non-plussed" or "unwilling to put up with morons any longer."

I feel like expectations around here need to be checked a bit. lets remember that this kid hasn't played a second of D1 ball yet. it sounds like many of you are already penciling dude in for 20-10 on a nightly basis. take a step back

Enlighten us, which one was higher rated? And, if you point to Horner/Brunner (both three star) or Oliver/Davis (three star and four star), I call shenanigans....

Alford had a top 10 class. I'm surprised that a Hawk fan needs to be enlightened by a Clone with regard to Iowa history.

Edit: And by that I meant thinking you were pwning him.(see Hawkeye State)

Alford's class of Worley, Reiner, Boyd, Sonderliter, and that one dude named Courtney from Detroit was a top 10 class.

Worley and Reiner were the jewels of the class, and neither of them were program changers like they were supposed to be.
