Watching the PTL games

Regardless of everyone's opinion on this matter, I am now a more intrigued to see how Williams does at point. Thanks!

Williams will never play point guard exclusively after this year so if he ends up on an all conference team, you will just say it wasn'tat point since he had minutes at other positions too. Kinda like Marble in his career. He played a lot of point and made all conference teams. But it's easy to argue he didn't make them as a point guard, even tho he played a ton of minutes there.

You said Williams will be a better PG than Mike ever was and now you're saying he won't play PG after this year?

Williams would be better suited for a 15 mins per game back up for the 2/3 spot. He had 8 turnovers when I stopped counting.

It won't fly against BIG teams. Not enough to get up a top half finish in the league. 7-10 maybe. Which is enough for most of the people here.

You are literally the only person I have read on all the hawk sites that is ripping on CW in this manner and who also doesn't point out he had 18 pts and 12 rebounds

Watched Bohannon for a few trips and he is not a PG.
I don't know what we are gonna do at the 1.

You have decided after 1 PTL game we don't have a PG at all. That neither is capable of playing PG. That is throwing the babies (CW and Bohannon) out with the bath water. Actually you made this judgement before tonight pretty much, but have just decided to throw both PG out with the bathwater for sure after 1 PTL game.

I am NOT doing the same thing, as I have NOT made a good or bad judgement on either CW or Bohannon. Quote my post where I say either will be great, or that either are terrible PG's.

You can act indignant all you want, and tell yourself that I am doing the same as you, but I am not. You sound like a buffoon declaring absolutes about players after 1 PTL game. Heck, I'm sure you also told us that Marble could never play PG after his first PTL game, that Fleming was going to be a super star after 1 PTL game, because a dudes first PTL game tells us everything we need to know about a player.

This year could be a lot like the '08 year in football. We had a lot of ok players move on and young talented players replaced them. By halfway through the year you were wondering if these young guys improved that much in a year or if they weren't playing the year before due to loyalty to the upperclassmen because the young guys were upgrades. I think by conference play we will look better at the 1,2, and 3 spots. I'm hoping the 5 spot looks better too but that's a lot less likely.

Don't tell me what I'll say, IF CW manages to do the impossible.

I'm not ripping on him! He's a very capable 3. How is that ripping on him? I'd rip on Shaq's ability to play PG at the college level! That doesn't mean I don't like Shaq's basketball skills or his contributions on the court. Why is that so hard for you to understand? You're digging deep to try and turn me into the villain. All its doing is making you look like the village idiot.

I understand what Fran is going to attempt to do on offense. He's going to rely on motion and ball movement to minimize the fact that we don't have a true PG. And that's fine at the high school and AAU level. But BIG coaches will pressure and trap the weakest ball handlers. The worst passers. They'll clog the cutting lanes and hold players off of the ball to take the motion out of the offense. That leaves less than average ball handlers and less than average passing guards with few options and the inevitable"hero ball" failure.

Are people worried about getting the ball down the court, or concerned about scoring?

The former issue, I do share a little concern, as I am uncertain how well each player does under stress and how well they handle the ball. Overall, I believe this won't be a huge concern unless we end up playing teams like WVU where they put a lot of pressure the players moving the ball up the court.

The latter, I am really unconcerned. If we are able to make shots from the outside, which sounds feasible, this will open up the offense. It sounds like CW can get in the front court and score, this will allow a kick-out or a good chance at easy points. Furthermore, Conner sounds like he has great vision, and though this would all be speculation (On a message board?), I believe he will follow his dad as a good PG. You need to be able to find the open guy and get the ball to him, being a quick slasher isn't a requirement.

All things considered, I think the issue of PG is kind of moot.

One guy is a little worse of a ball handler as Mike last year and it's going to make us have to hero ball?

Teams will hold Jok and limit his baseline movement. Limit his movement without the ball. That will give Bohannon and Cook a lot of opportunity to score.

2 guys. Sapp and Mike both handled the ball better than any current player on our roster. And we still ended up playing Hero Ball at the end of close games , down the stretch.

Geez. Some people have short memories. How can anyone here forget Mike Gesell's last second isolation plays? Lol.

I think it will be much different with 4 other scoring threats on the court. Many of the late game situations last year happened because the legit scorers were unable to get open. Additionally, if our PG can make his own shot, is that really a problem?

How would you have felt if Mike had finished out more games like he did against MSU at home this season or at NC the year before?

We'll see. I know from experience that it's much easier to defend a bunch of average guards running an offense, than it is to defend a quality PG.
