Watching the PTL games

CW and JB will be serviceable pg's with JB being a great shooter and CW having an advantage on posting up shorter guards, but neither is anywhere as quick as a guy like Arcidiacono or even Washpun. We just have to play around the lack of quickness with more overall height and better shooting (hopefully).

Like his potential but at this point having a 3 year project where you get 1 impact year out of a guy is really frustrating. If that is the case, then wish Fran would just go the grad transfer or transfer route instead. Hoping a prospect sticks around 2-3 years and develops to give you 1 year is not what a rebuilding young team needs. Better hope he doesn't mind not play much for 2-3 years and sticks around instead of transferring and wasting a scholarship for those years instead. Hoping he turns out to be a huge surprise.

Well Fran did try that and recruited a JC point guard who was rated as an all American at the JC level. Ended up being a total bust.

Having said that we all know that Fran has recruited pretty well at all positions except at getting a legit ALL B1G point guard. I don't know if one of our recruits will develop into one or not but I certainly hope they do. It is a very important position on a basketball team if not the most important position.

What is going to make this upcoming season so interesting is all the new players that are going to get a chance to play and watching them develop.

The really great news is that PG skills like ball handling and security can improve for young players.

Athleticism appears to be trending up.

This is where we will get hurt the most, I believe. If there are a couple of quick perimeter players, we will have issues. Maybe. Unless CW, IM, MD or JB can prove they can defend. If they can't, then we could get burned in the outside.... I think we will have the interior covered with our length. That is not much of a concern to me right now. It is when a couple of players are lighting it up on the outside we will wish we had an MG or AC to defend... Who knows, someone could prove more than adequate with perimeter D. We will know the answer to that come the end of December.

CW's team plays J-Bo's squad on Thursday in the PTL. Looking forward to watching that.

It's funny that wanting to wait and see how players turn out is being a sunshine pumper. It's equally funny that a couple of posters in this thread so freely insult those who aren't willing to call the upcoming season a waste due to not having a true PG. Just because most of us aren't overwhelmingly negative doesn't make us sunshine pumpers.

That is just it. I have my doubts about this season, I have doubts about the PG position. What I don't do is lay down absolutes after one PTL game. It is comical really, and then he has a absolute hissy fit when everyone doesn't bow down to his opinion.

Yeah Lightning I'm talking about you.

I have confidence that Fran knows what and how important a point guard is. Iowa has Williams, Bohannon, and possibly someone else at the point guard position next year. The Iowa coaching staff knows what they are doing.

Nah come on now. Lighting has all the basketball nolege. He can predict the future after the years first PTL game!

What does this even mean? They know what they're doing and they know the position is important but they also missed on their top targets and settled for fallbacks. They're going to have to get creative to figure out how to make it work this year.

If you're looking at PTL as an indicator for next season, stop. As I recall, Andrew Fleming lit it up last summer.
I think Fleming would have been OK had he played a position of need and had minutes to get comfortable and not press so much.

I disagree. He never once looked anywhere near under control, I was pretty underwhelmed with his play early last season. There were minutes to be had for Fleming, he just couldn't unseat even Elingson, and later CW passed both of them up.

He was out of control the entire time. I don't know what he was trying to prove but he had quite a few chances to gain Frans trust and he did just the opposite. We disagree on why tho. I think he showed plenty of ability but absolutely no value for the ball. Maybe he was too confident in his ability. In my opinion, he's the first player to leave under Fran for a reason other than not being good enough to play.
