Story: Maishe Dailey Commits to Hawkeyes

He definitely looks like he has realty high potential. A year of weight work would do wonders for him. I wouldn't be surprised to see him redshirt next year with the size of the recruiting class and who Iowa has coming back next year. It looks like Iowa has a bunch of future stars.

247 had him ranked the 24th combo guard and a 3-star overall, yet he had all mid-major level offers before Iowa offered, other than Rutgers, whose status is lower than a mid-major. The math doesn't seem to work there to me regarding his 24th ranking. Either 247 is way off or big schools just whiffed on his recruitment. Looking at his highlight video, I'd say it's the latter.

They only ranked 26 combo guards. He's the #344 in the class which matches up with his offer list but his film looks good

Kid can run. Kid can jump...see dunks. kid can pass. kid handles ball well. Yup, I know its a highlight video. But, you can't fake running, can't fake jumping, can't fake dunks. Looks like the long, athletic, kid who can run the court...sound like Fran's recruiting mantra? Yup. Maybe, just maybe, the "true point guard" requirements are just not necessarily in Fran's playbook.

Precisely. When I first heard we had offered a 6'6 small forward I wondered what the hell Fran was doing. Then I watched his videos and completely understood. He is extremely fluid for a player of his size. He actually reminds me of a better passing version of Jok out of high school without the 3 pt shooting ability. He has an incredibly high ceiling and makes smart decisions with the basketball. I think his playing time hinges on Moss this next year. If Moss is as good as people make him out to be, then Dailey probably redshirts. If he doesn't then Dailey might have a chance to get minutes right away. I do think some weight room time will only help him though.

I see the incredibly high ceiling this kid has on the highlight tape. I also think Fran envisions a lot of lineups where everyone is 6'6" and over. That could be tough to guard and create a lot of mismatches. Also, tall and athletic guards can help crash the glass on both sides of the ball.

But then we're still lacking a true PG to break the defense down and get people open

Dailey looks good. But until we see something decent happen on those "last plays" (see mike drive right, see mike throw up a prayer, see Iowa lose) I'll maintain that a good point guard is pretty important.

I like it. Do I wish we could've found a graduate transfer PG? Yes.

This kid seems to have a ton of potential. I don't see how you can pass on him.
Good job, Fran and coaches in finding this diamond in the rough.

He's gonna deliver the Dailey mail for us, eventually.

It's true that he looks good on film and we should always take with a grain of salt because it's a highlight video. But yet a lot of us will say such and such player doesn't look that great on video so we should pass on him. Shouldn't that work both ways?
