Story: Maishe Dailey Commits to Hawkeyes

I think we could have made a run with a really good grad transfer at any position. There are no great teams next year. Wisconsin got hot and snuck up on some teams and their confidence grew. Kinda like Nebraska a few years ago. That won't necessarily carry over to this year. After them it's pretty wide open. Indiana would be good if they had a PG who could beat his man off the dribble. :)

Kinda like Iowa next year.... ;)

I actually stop looking at this site as curious as I do, simply because of this POS.
Run along home to mommy and cry about it. If you have a problem with dissenting opinions, this might not be the right country for you.

Its pretty obvious that Fran is high on Williams running the team after redshirting a year. I don't know if Dailey redshirts next year, but he has a ton of potential once he learns the Iowa system and has time to put some muscle on in the weight room. I think both of those guys, along with Moss will be stars for Iowa. The team is going to have athleticism that they haven't had in a long time. I think Moss and Williams are going to be scorers, and Dailey shot over forty percent from the 3 last year in high school. He definitely has the athleticism to get open for his shot. I like to think that Iowa will be a dangerous team next year, and they should be even better the year after.

The key to your response is that 'you guys'. I don't really enjoy reading what the trolls have to say. I do think there may be more turnovers next year, but there is also going to be more opportunities with the added athleticism. With the players Iowa possibly starts next year, they could add to the number of turnovers the other team has. I think Iowa should be a dangerous team next year, and they should be more than a dangerous team the year after. Its amazing how many less turnovers Jok had from his sophomore to junior seasons. He looked like a turnover ready to happen. Anyway, the basketball staff has worked with Williams for a year now, and they are satisfied with his abilities. Uthoff, Gesell, Clemmons, and Woodbury were fun to watch, but they guys Iowa will have next year, should be fun to watch with, I think, higher potential as a team.

I haven't looked into it under the new format but I would be surprised if there isn't an ignore feature you could use for someone you don't care to read. Hate to see people leave because of a few negative posters. We need more people around here not less.

You guys are a riot. I'll try not to upset your delicate sensibilities but I can't make any promises.
I'm not saying I have a problem with you necessarily, I was just suggesting that if a reader doesn't care for a particular poster's style, I believe there is a way you can use an "ignore" feature.

I get it. Why even go that far? There are certain posters that I just browse right over when they post in threads I'm reading. It's not hard. But he's not interested in that. He wants to control the discussions. He's the kid that took his ball and went home when he couldn't run the game on the playground. Let him leave. I posted my opinion and a lot of posters took issue with it. I'm OK with that. I've taken issue with other posts. That's what a discussion board is all about.

It just seems like a lot of people take their ball and go home. I was trying to offer an alternative solution. I like having a variety of opinions on here. Sometimes it helps me see that I'm being irrational when I'm being too negative or have my Hawkeye colored glasses on sometimes. If we all thought exactly the same, then what would be the point of discussing anything at all? It's not like we want to be a part of a big circle jerk like Cyclonefanatic.

I'm with you I have no problem hearing people that are fans of other schools or even Hawk fans with a different take. Lively debate is a good thing. I don't like to be wrong but have no problem admitting it when I am. And as you said what fun is a message board of all things if everyone here were robots thinking and repeating the same things? Is there a line when it comes to trolls and those just trying to stir the pot? You bet there can be. But for the most part I just skim what they say ignore and read on... We each can take from this what we choose to.

There is definitely an "Ignore" feature. I went and looked at my list last week to remove a couple people from the list. I ended up taking a lot of people off my list...because they have been banned. The "Ignore" option is great for skipping over troll posts. The obvious ones have been banned. Many are still here because they know how to troll within the rules.

Side Note - I read a lot of posts from posters with differing opinions. But I don't read posters that are trolls. And I don't read posters that only know how to be negative.

I agree with Hawkfnntn that there is a limit with trolls and those who stir the pot intentionally. Mostly I just try to ignore them, or make fun of them. I'm just looking for good conversation about sports, like this particular thread, there are some pros and cons to our newest recruit. I like the kid, but I can see why someone might be worried or negative about not having a true point guard on the roster. Only time will tell who is right. I am frustrated about the end of last year, but to this point I still have to trust Fran given where he started to where we are now.

I've had it out with lightning1 several times on here. He's definitely on the pessimistic side of things when it comes to Iowa basketball. Last month the sky was falling over a kid that will never see the floor in an Iowa uniform. I don't agree with much if anything that he puts up here, that said... I respect his opinion, read it and take it with a grain of salt because he's entitled to his opinion and that's what message boards are for. The next time he says something positive about the Hawks though without a back handed compliment might be his first. I don't think it makes a troll tho, just a pessimistic fan. There are lots of those.

I'm an extremely competitive person. That's how I'm wired. After 6 years of Fran, I've seen entirely too much poodle out of our teams and not nearly enough junk yard dog.
It takes mental toughness to win titles. Fran can't recruit it or he won't recruit it.

I would say there have only been 3 mentally weak players that have seen big minutes under Fran. 2 of them were big reasons we've been pretty good the last few years. We could have been great had they had the mental toughness needed but they were must have players for iowa. Other than those 3, there isn't a mental toughness issue under Fran. It's a stupid idea anyway to think Fran somehow only recruits mentally weak players.

Exactly being negative and pessimistic isn't in and of itself being a troll. If it's genuine and backed up by some logic then hey more power to them. For some it's not easy seeing the 12-0 side of the road. And the 0-2 hurts bad. Or the fact Iowa's Bball team was a yo-yo with very moderate expectations climbing into the top 5 then torpedoing themselves almost out of the rankings all together with a cameo in the tourney basically. (losing albeit getting smashed by the eventual champions only made them one of 6 teams basically) Some just can't help being negative nancies... Those that are always negative I feel bad for cause what's the point of being a fan if you take away little or no joy from it?

You and I have 2 entirely different opinions about what mental toughness is.

I don't need to waste my time with endless negative posts from any poster. It's not how I want to spend my time. I agree that anything goes within the forum boundaries. But I don't have to read it. The "Ignore" option is there for a reason.

I think mental toughness is hiding on a basketball board and whining that the players don't have mental toughness, and trying to bully your opinions on everyone else. I probably should go to the cyclone board and show the cyclone fans how mentally tough I am.
That's probably where you belong. Have fun.

I don't hide. I coach.

I try and bully my opinions on everyone else? That's an ignorant thing to say. Even for this board.
