so not recruiting an actual point guard this year?

200 assist are 200 assists. No reason to downplay that, Mike was very good last year. I know you aren't a big "Mike guy", but you should reconsider that. No he was not a good scorers, couldn't create his own shot or drive to the basket effectively.....but Mike understood this as well and played to his strengths, and had a great Sr season.

Like I've said before. I loved Mike the whole time he was here knowing he had the ability to be great. It never happened tho. He played great defense and didn't turn the ball over (until late in close games) and that is enough to make him a pretty good player. But he didn't create much.

Watching other teams, one thing you always see is someone drive and kick to an open 3 pt shooter. Mike never did it. I noticed before his senior year so it was something I was aware of while watching him play. If you're aware of something, you would notice it if he started doing it. He never did. He also never drove the lane and dumped it to a post for a dunk (or layup in Woody's case).

Mike played a ton of minutes in a day where they play a lot of games on a team with two really good shooters.

Did you even watch last year? He did it all the time. He had over 200 assists it's not like he didn't create.

Why are some of you hung up on MG still? Let's turn the page. I know he was a polarizing player for the fan base but let's move on with what Fran is trying to build now. Is Jordan going to be a stud? Who knows but he's capable of shooting deep and getting hot. Now we've seen a taste of it. Will he be throwing up over 20 and 5 all the time? No I doubt anyone expects that he's a true freshman that's not exactly the most physical of guys. If he was quicker and faster that'd be one thing but he is who he is. If he doesn't try to be anyone he isn't and play to his strengths I think he'll be a heck of a player. Tagging him with a label of PG or not is irrelevant to me. This year was always going to be a rebuilding year. They had 4 freshman in there and Jok to start that game so it is what it is. If they are playing their best ball late in the year and showing potential for contending next yr for getting to the dance I'll be happy. (along with Cook coming back)

Mike had 22 points and 10 assists in the game vs Nebraska in this link below. The video shows a couple of his assists. One is a post feed to Uthoff for a turn around jumper (not a difficult assist). Another is a drive and kick to Uthoff for 3. Go to 1:05 of the video to witness it. :) There's also a pass to Woody, but I don't believe it was an assist because Woody puts the ball on the floor for the drive and score (also something I don't think happened too often).

Good homework. But I would have assumed there was at least one out there. :)

One would think you would start giving Jordan some credit, especially since he is averaging more PPG and APG than Mike G as a JR.

Let's see where that ends up at when he has to go through a Big Ten schedule and people have film on him. The biggest gap between Bohannon and Mike will be on the defensive side though

I saw his shot chart and every one of his 3 pt shots were a ways behind the line. If he keeps doing that, teams will try harder to take it away but that will help the other players considerably.

Maybe you'll start giving him more credit now

I'm coming off as more of a Mike hater than I really am because my point is his production isn't real hard to replace. As far as "good" assists go, my opinion is he would have been at the bottom of the conference if there were a way to calculate them.

His offensive and defensive production is very hard to replace as we're witnessing. Haha though that last year when he set the record for most assists in a season he'd be at the bottom of the conference in "good assists" whatever that means. Did Mike steal your girlfriend?

I am not sure some of you know that basketball is a team sport. Every team is different. MG didn't get many assists passing the ball to Woodbury. Woodbury was not a huge offensive weapon. Cook and Pemsl appear to be bigger targets than Woody. Last year, with MG and Clemmons, we were a run first team, which can lead to more assists on breaks. The more 3 pt shots that Bohannon takes, the less assists he will make. Different dynamics in each case. Need to look at the overall effectiveness of a player. Which one does the little things like play defense, set up the offense, cause the defense to pull out further due to a player's ablility to nail the 3-ball, not turn the ball over, make clutch free throws at the end of the game, etc. Statistics does not always give you the best answer.

Mike's worst year was his junior year and his PER that year was 13.4 Bohannon's PER is 9.1 right now which is worse than anyone had on our team last year besides Fleming.

He has played 7 games, 3 vs NCAA quality teams, 3 cupcakes and 1 boarder line NCAA team. The B1G schedule isn't going to get much harder.

Actually we are seeing that Mikes offensive production is very easy to replace, as Jordan 7 games in is averaging what Mike did as a Jr. We are for sure missing him on the defensive end of the court, but we are just as greatly missing Woodys D as well.

Mikes offensive efficiency is his worse year is much better than Bohannon's now. Also Memphis is not going to be a border line NCAA team this year

Very true. White is 2nd all time in points scored but I wouldn't put him in the top 20 of best offensive players. Also the less you shoot, the more you pass. The more you pass, the more assists you will make. For a guy who played as many minutes as he did, he didn't shoot very much, which means he passes a lot. I just rarely thought "nice pass" from him.
