so not recruiting an actual point guard this year?

But don't say everyone predicted we would struggle like this early when that isn't true. Even you didn't predict it

Yeah, because I am always overly optimistic - doesn't mean I predict worth a crap. If I had to predict the B1G season over again - I'd probably go + a few games due to what we've shown so far. Defense IMO last night - out of the gate, seemed more intense and IMO Fran has shown the ability to coach teams up in the past to where they would elevate their play in environments and situations that seem dire to the fans. There's not a lot that anyone can convince me of to not be positive about the Iowa Basketball programs future, cause it looks simply put - BRIGHT.

That's pretty apparent right now haha.

I'd bet Mike has more TO on his drives and attempted dishes than he did assists. He was horrible at driving and hitting an open man.

This coming from a guy who told everyone on this board that Mike would be good at this as a Jr and Sr., because he would learn to finish at the rim.....welp I was wrong, he never improved at this and I literally cringed every time he took it to the basket as it was gonna end in a blocked shot or turnover.

I was a huge Gesell fan until his eligibility ran out. I always knew he had the potential to play great and it would eventually happen for him. But there are no more games left so I can't judge him on untapped potential anymore.

And you're right on Frans offense. That's why I don't agree with Williams bring worse off at point guard than wing. As soon as he passes the ball, he essentially becomes a wing.

sue me haha - i just see a team full of weapons with skills unlike we've had at Iowa in a while. Albeit it's all very young, raw, undeveloped talent that hasn't even played a 1/4th of a season together yet. I keep thinking - if these guys are showing flashes this early in their careers booked with what we have coming in ... I can't help but be excited.

We hardly gave up any easy layups last night. That's a huge improvement. I get that percentages go up with open shots, but this isn't the NBA and last night was crazy. The officiating did us no favors either.

So Mike G. wasn't a "true PG" according to your definition. He couldn't take anyone off the dribble, get to the rim, or create his own offense.

I personally think Mike was a true PG, he defended well, he passed well, and overall all he was a very solid PG. In no way shape or form could it be said of Mike that he could create is own shot, take people off the dribble and get to the rim.

Teams let him take it to the rim. Decent chance of good outcome. He was not a pt. guard. Ronnie Lester, Arnold and others were. Not Mike.

Defense doesn't make one a PG or not. Is Jok not a SG/wing because he couldn't keep an offensive lineman in front of him?

Jordan is gonna be the guy getting the ball up the court, he is a good passer, he will force defenders to come out and defend him, and this will create some spacing this offense desperately needs. Look at last night how much room Pemsl had to work with underneath. Getting shooters on the floor from Jordan to Jok to Moss to even Ellingson will free up space down low.

Sure he lacking on the defensive end right now, but I don't get how that means he isn't somehow a PG?

When was the last time a true PG shot 7% from inside the arc?

Lets bash some more Hawk players.....and you wonder why many feel that you are nothing more than a Clown troll.

Player efficiency 14.6
True Shooting % .504
Assist %22.5
Turnover %16.8

Player efficiency 9.1
True Shooting %.459
Assist %30.9
Turnover %21.4

I'm not sure why you love one guy so much, and bash the other guy non stop. My guess is Bohannon is gonna put up better Tr Fr numbers than Mike G. did.

Where did you get those player efficiency numbers?

I thought we would struggle this year but the defense has been a shock. I noticed it in the first game they played that they were not defending anyone to stop the dribble penetration and leaving shooters wide open.

I thought the defense last night was actually better than the previous few games. Think it was more that NDU just couldn't miss in the 2nd half.

Stop saying "3-4 now in year 7" like that's an indictment. While it's true - we're 3-4 in year 7, it's also not damning. 1. That's like saying nothing happened in the previous 7 seasons, like a steady incline of the program that included 3 straight NCAA tournaments 2. That's like not noticing that we graduated 80% of our scoring from the previous season in a year EVERYONE knew was going to be a rebuild and now they are already down 2 key players to injury 3. That's like not taking into account that 3 maybe 4 of those loses came to NCAA tournament bound teams.

or just troll on -

He should've phrased it differently out of consideration for your feelings.

"We're in last place."

Just my two cents, but I see Bohannon as more of a two guard, then a true PG. I don't think he has the handles and pass first mentality of a true PG. That said, I'm more of a conventional PG guy as opposed to a shoot first PG.

14.6 to 9.1 is a really big gap

Jordan is 7 games into his career, lets see what he does the rest of the year, and then I'm betting Jordan gets better over the years.

Mike was kind of the exception in that he basically didn't improve from his Fr. year PER of 14.6 to a career PER of 14.5. He just kind of flat lined. He never figured out how to get his own shot off, he never could penetrate and create offense for himself or others, and he never finished at the rim at all.

I really bought into Mike after his Fr. year, and I still think he was a good PG. Yet looking at your criteria Mike certainly wasn't a PG, and if you think he could create his own shot, finish at the rim, and effectively penetrate, I disagree with that assessment of Mike.

I never said he could finish at the rim, I said he could get to the rim and effectively penetrate. He had over 200 assists last year so he could effectively penetrate and kick. Mike's mid range game was pretty salty too. He was really good at driving and pulling up but never developed that floater he needed to be effective at the rim
