Rivals 2013 Class Rankings

You're splitting hairs here and you know it...he's a much more prolific shooter than Jok I know that much. 1st or 5th in the country I don't really care. From several reports I've seen he's considered the best shooter in his class. End of story.

If he's only the 5th best shooter, you should probably stop referring to him as "hands down regarded as the best shooter in the country". LOL

How is he a much more prolific shooter than Jok? I'd be willing to bet that Thomas wasn't a 50/40/90 shooter this year like Jok was....

First off, do yourself a favor and watch Matt's highlight video of his final high school game (posted below). Enjoy the free seminar on how to use your reputation as the best three point shooter in the country to score at will on your mid-range jumpers. How many three point shots do you see in there? Thomas is hands down regarded as the best shooter in the country. You act like he's purely a three point shooter. The kid is 6'4" 190 pounds. His all around game is pretty dang impressive. Impressive athlete. In my honest opinion he's much quicker than Jok and just seems to be more fluid. I'm no NBA scout just my opinion.

Both have bright futures. Time will tell... The experts seem to think more highly of Thomas seeing he was a top 50 caliber player. We will see.

Once again another Clown fan that can't read. I said he was purely a 3 pt shooter IN COLLEGE. I said that because he doesn't have the first step or the handles to beat D-1 defenders off of the dribble. So watching that video of Thomas beating a 5'10 high school player off the dribble or shooting over the top of him, doesn't mean anything.
It only means that you don't know what you are talking about.
Thomas is another Matt Gatens. While I like Gatens, he couldn't beat anyone off of the dribble either.
Jok is taller, longer, better above the rim, around the rim and has a better mid range game. Sorry if my opinion hurts your feelings. I hope you don't lose any sleep over it.

Jok = 92% from the FT line. Thomas = 82% from the FT line. You would think that the "hands down best shooter in the country" wouldn't be 10% points behind Jok, when it comes to charity shots.

If this is ISU's answer to replace Lucious, McGee, Clyburn or Babb, it might be a long year for ISU. He might eventually be a nice player, but someone who shoots 36% from 3pt land in HS is not an elite shooter. Just ask CAAR, you need to knock off 5% from that when going from HS to college. Plus he is a step slow, and plays below the rim, so he won't be finishing at the basket against Kansas, K state, Baylor, Oklahoma, Okie St., etc.

im really not trying to rip on the kid, he just isn't the guy who replaces Lucious, or Clyburn (completely different players). He might replace McGee minus the athleticism, and great 46% that he shot from 3pt land. He might replace Babb, minus the great D and 38% 3pt shooting.....if you are looking for him to just completely replace those two, you are going to be severely disappointed.

Thomas was the primary offensive threat for the Hilltoppers this season, and other teams knew it, throwing nearly every kind of defense imaginable at him. He beat them with great consistency and did it at a high rate of efficiency. he shot 50.4% from the floor overall, 35.8% from behind the three-point line (59 of 165), and 82.9% from the free throw line

I didn't realize he didn't even shoot 40% from 3 in high school, and the competition in that video looked less than stellar too.

Pretty solid looking player but there's more upside with Jok.

Also heard one of the Cyclone assistants was blowing up Jok's phone trying to get him to decommit from Iowa so they must have wanted him pretty badly.

How in the world can you be "one of the top 5 shooters" in your class with a sub 40% 3pt fg %? Am I missing something? Or are Clown fans just making chit up?

Wow, and the competition in that video is suspect at best. Pretty underwhelming for a highlight video. No way he gets to the basket against even decent D-1 defenders.

I believe you mean hands down regarded as the best shooter in the class, don't undersell him by saying one of the top 5.

That's the problem I have with his skill level and his rankings, honestly. All of the video highlights I have seen of him, the opposing defenders look very suspect. And as another poster mentioned. He doesn't have near the ball handling abilities, athleticism or the explosive first step to get to the rim of Babb, Lucious or Clyburn.
Clown fans are ripping me for saying he looks like a 3 pt specialist. That's what he is when you objectively compare his skill set with other ISU guards that have been mentioned. Unless one of these Clown fans can show me a video that I haven't seen, of Thomas abusing a guard with a D-1 offer list that matches his own, which is mysteriously missing offers from any of the elite programs, I'm standing by my statements.
Here are Thomas's list of offers:
Boston College
Creighton
Marquette
MINN
NW
Virginia
Wisconsin
Wis-GB
For a top 50 prospect and hands down the best shooter in college basketball, where are the offers from: Louisville, Duke, NC, MSU, MICH, OSU, Florida, Arizona, UCLA, Kansas, Texas, Indiana, Kentucky, UCONN, Georgetown, Syracuse, etc?
I just named 15 of what any basketball fan would describe as the Top 25 basketball programs in the country and not a single one of them offered a schollie to "the best shooter in the country"???
Am I the only one that sees the flaws here?

He looks like he will be a very good player for you guys. Nice use of the glass.

I think it's funny all year long the guys mentioned above Hawk fans said were overrated and not very talented. Misfits. Transfers. After they graduate? Irreplaceable!

I guess we're comparing 18 year old young men who haven't even graduated high school to 23 year old men. I never said he would walk right in and replace Babb or McGee. ISU will rely heavily on their frontcourt next year who are both potential All BIG 12 candidates in Ejim and Niang. Programs go in cycles and you depend on new players.

Go back and look at Clyburn's and Babb's and McGee's credentials coming out of high school. How do they compare to Matt Thomas (top 50) and Monte Morris (Mr. BBall Michigan)? Hoiberg has had much success with much less accoladed and talented players. He's starting to put more talented players in his system and four year players at that. He already has another highly accoladed guard signed in 2014 in Custer and showing promise that he may reel in one or two more big fish in 2014. Sorry ISU fans are excited. I think it's funny all of the chatter about ISU bball on the Iowa board. The topic was 2013 recruiting classes and the focus immediately shifts to ISU!

And you guys mentioned earlier you'd never trade Jok for Thomas? Well the experts who make a living doing this disagree which is neither here nor there. No one knows yet these guys have yet to enter college. What I do know is NO one ANYWHERE would trade our prize recruit last year for yours! Niang or Woodbury that is flat out laughable!

He sure is. 4 more transfers next year. 2 of which were involved in a brawl that ended their team's season. Seems like biz as usual for Hoiberg.

Huh, I guess Roy Williams, Thad Matta, Bo Ryan, and Tubby Smith disagree with you. But hell, what do those guys know. They only coach some of the top programs in the country and are not a Clown on a rivals message board.

Woodbury faced much better competition all season long, played little over half the mins as Niang and still had more rebounds, 3x as many blocks, and nearly shot the same fg %. But yeah, Niang is clearly a lottery pick should he choose to come out next year.

I cornfuse all the ISU trolls....errrrrrr I mean posters on here. You might not be the one who has said these FR will replace what you are losing.

Ummmm Hawks fans were talking about the 2013 recruiting classes, and someone asked how ISU was so high with 3* kids and JUCO's.....then BAM! in swarm the Clown fans....

If you honestly can't admit that Niang is superior to Woodbury at this point I really don't care to listen to any opinions you have. The kid is painful to watch at this stage of his career. Hoepfully he will make strides and improve for Iowa's sake.
