Rivals 2013 Class Rankings

I just told you that Thomas would. That's because he has neither the first step or ball handling skills to beat a D-1 defender off of the dribble. So that's the only option for him.
As for the ISU offense........it didn't look so good against Iowa. Neither did it's defense, which no surprise, excelled in the mid range area.

How could you possibly know what Thomas can and can't do. Do you attend his games or watch videos of his games?

ISU didn't do a lot of anything in the non-con this year or last year, completely different team by the end of the year. Your not going to be able to come up with any argument against ISU's offense other than a few bad games during the season, not sure why you are even heading in that route.

I wasn't heading in that route, BryceC brought up the ISU offense and I was responding to his prior post.
I have watched a lot of video of Thomas's play. He could certainly prove me wrong but he will have to do that, to make me see him as anything but a 3 pt shooter. JMO.

I was going to edit my post but you responded quickly. I was going to add this:

It is yet to be proven who will be better between Jok and Thomas, I guess it's too early to say if you would trade one for the other. Thomas was brought in as a more pure shooter role which is why he is a better fit. For what Iowa needs, Jok may be a better fit.

There are things that both Thomas and Jok do during games that gives me some clues into how their game might translate to the D-1 level. And I base that on my own experience guarding both D-1 level players and average high school players. Is my opinion any better than anyone else's? No, but it's all I have to go on.

Thomas is probably going to be a better player than Jok. He also is going to be asked to play starter minutes from day one, Jok is only going to crack the rotation if he shows he can shoot well enough to earn minutes (which considering his main competition is JO, shouldn't be that tough). They are going to have vastly different roles next season.

I get that but my opinion still stands that I would rather have a player with Jok's mid range game. It's always better to have multiple ways to score points. IMO.

And how did that work out for Fred against Iowa this season? Let me remind you. 80-71 LOSS.

Iowa State lost against iowa for a lot of reasons, primarily turnovers. Not once during that game was I lamenting the lack of a midrange game. And if Thomas lacks a first step and ball handling skills, would you characterize Jok as having both? Because if so, every scouting report I've ever seen on him is incorrect.

Jok is going to be able to get his own shots off because he presents a match-up problem. He is every bit of 6'6" and is very strong. He is going to be bigger/stronger than a lot of guards he plays.

Iowa wanted that game WAY more than ISU.

When you get owned like ISU did, it is easy to say that. I mean I'd say that ISU wanted it way more than Notre Dame, and I could also say that Ohio St. Wanted it more than ISU......see how easy that is???

Those were NCAA tournament games. Hawk fans can't be expected to understand the emotions involved in those.

The mid range game gets to the FT line a lot more and that is problem for the other team.
Marble played 30 mins per game and shot 189 FTs. Ogelsby played 16 mins PG and shot 24 FTs. Besides the number of points scored, think of the effect all of those fouls that Marble drew, had on the opposing team's line up options.
It's also harder for opposing teams to take the 3 pt shot away from a player, if he has a mid range game and Jok can shoot the 3 (45 % or so this last season, IIRC).
I've had to guard both 3 pt specialists and players with a good mid range game. It was much easier to guard the 3 pt specialist. I didn't have to work nearly as hard on the defensive end.
Doesn't matter. It's just my opinion.

First off, do yourself a favor and watch Matt's highlight video of his final high school game (posted below). Enjoy the free seminar on how to use your reputation as the best three point shooter in the country to score at will on your mid-range jumpers. How many three point shots do you see in there? Thomas is hands down regarded as the best shooter in the country. You act like he's purely a three point shooter. The kid is 6'4" 190 pounds. His all around game is pretty dang impressive. Impressive athlete. In my honest opinion he's much quicker than Jok and just seems to be more fluid. I'm no NBA scout just my opinion.

Both have bright futures. Time will tell... The experts seem to think more highly of Thomas seeing he was a top 50 caliber player. We will see.

Onalaska's Matt Thomas scores 25 points in last high school game - YouTube

That is just not at all true.

LOL - You're the only ISU fan I know that feels this way...and I know a lot of ISU fans. I'm talking the season ticket holders for FB and BB type of fans. The fans that go the the Big 12 hoops tournament every year. I guess it is possible that only the ISU fans wanted this game and the players didn't really care but I highly doubt this is the case.

Pretty sure it is... I guess they mut just be throwing anyone in the highschool 3-point and slam dunk contest these days. They typically save those slots for the elite...

"Hands down regarded as the best shooter in the country."

That is what you said. And that is not even close to true. He is a consensus top 10 shooter in the country. Maybe even top 5. But what you said is an absolute lie. You know it and I know it.

You're splitting hairs here and you know it...he's a much more prolific shooter than Jok I know that much. 1st or 5th in the country I don't really care. From several reports I've seen he's considered the best shooter in his class. End of story.

Apparently you don't realize the 3 point shooting was just Matt Thomas shooting against himself. They actually cancelled the dunk contest so everyone could watch him shoot more.
