Rebuilding in year 7

Moss is in his second year in the program and is only averaging 4 ppg (thanks to 14 points against UT Rio Grande). You think Fran is going to have a future all conference player in his second year in the program only play 2 minutes in a tight game?

He redshirted last season and he plays behind Jok, this season. Of course he isn't going to get a lot or as many minutes as JBo, Cook and Pemsl. But you need to look at his ability and project it. He clearly can score and that was what he did in high school. What surprised me was how well he has played defense, so far. If he can keep that up, then I think he could eventually become a starter, this season, along with Jok. He is heir apparent to Jok, next season.

I'm not a sunshine pumper. I just refuse to be negative about damn near everything I post. That's all you do (unless someone calls you on it then you'll throw in a positive just for the hell of it).

I choose to look at the big picture. Sure little things bother me. Sure bad losses bother me. Sure recruiting losses bother me. However, in the big picture both the Iowa basketball team and the Iowa football team are better off with Fran and Kirk at the helm than they would be without them. That's how I view the big picture, and because of that I don't see the point in constantly whining about the little things. If the little things add up to enough for me to change my mind on the big picture then maybe I would. However, at this point in time, if you actually think the football team or basketball team would be better off with someone else at the helm then I think you're delusional. Both Kirk and Fran have earned their positions. Both of them have shown they are capable. There's no reason to be a miserable S.O.B. 99% of the time.

I don't think recruiting misses and unbalanced classes are little things when they put us where we are right now in basketball

"He clearly can score and that was what he did in high school" but then you look at see he averaged 10ppg in high school. Haha

Well then cheer for Duke or Kentucky because I've got news for ya. When you cheer for Iowa these things are going to happen unless Mike Krzyzewski decides he wants to move to Iowa City to lead the mighty Hawkeyes. At one point or another they will happen. That's just the way it is.

Sure it's okay to complain about things. That's what message boards are for, and I'm not arguing against that. With you though... that's all you do. You're just a whiner. I don't like whiners. So here we are.

You don't have to cheer for Kentucky or Duke to not have the bottom fall out this far because of recruiting misses and unbalanced classes. I expected to at least make the NIT this year and if that doesn't happen which it probably won't that should never happen in my opinion

and he was the 6th man on his team and included 3 or 4 other SR's that now play at D1 schools. He played for a completely loaded HS team. hey, you can think the kid is terrible and doesn't deserve to be on the team if you want. time will tell who is right.

Then why did you say he clearly can score and that's what he did in High School

because if you're on a HS team that plays 32 minute games and you aren't a starter because your team is loaded with talent and you can avg double digits, then you can score. Also, go look at his AAU video. kid was scoring on everyone in AAU.

Edit: looking at season before he RS.

Saying he couldn't even start on his own HS team isn't helping your argument

It doesn't hurt it either. I never said he was michael jordon. I only said he (along with JBo, Cook and Pemsl) were all B1G caliber players. I've provided evidence to back up my claim.

What evidence have you provided besides saying he was a scorer in high school which he wasn't and that he wasn't good enough to start on his HS team? Listen I think he can be a decent player but I don't think he will ever be all conference. If he got to Sapp's level as a senior I would take it

You are vastly underselling this kid. Fran is grooming him to take over Jok's role next season. Now, Moss will never be the shooter Jok is (maybe JBo can reach that) but Moss is a scorer. He can shoot and drive to the rim and get fouled.

I hope you're right but I'm not sure how you know he's a scorer.

I guess I just don't realize how people can project how someone will develop, especially one with such a small sample size

Individual plays he has made on the court so far. It doesn't mean he will for sure be good because of them. But he shows promise.

Purdue looked horrible for a few years and their coach was one season away from getting fired. Now they are on a good 3 year run. Look at every team in the conference other than Wisconsin and MSU and you will see the same thing that is happening to Iowa right now.

When you have one class pan out abnormally well like we did, you will more than likely have a big drop off after they leave. My fear is this freshman class might be the same. Hopefully they won't blow two seasons late like the last class did so if we have another big drop off when they leave it won't suck so bad.

Don't you think the problems they're having can be fixed? I do. The problems they're having have nothing to do with talent, but with 'mindset' and discipline. They also need to get Cook and Williams healthy. When they are, don't be surprised to see a starting line-up of Cook, Pemsl, Jok, Williams, and Bohanon and they will just need to work to get better at somethings and I think it will be a very competitive team. I like Baer better coming off the bench.

I disagree. The guards and small forwards lack the requisite speed/quickness to play B1G-level defense. I don't care how much discipline you have, you simply can't "MINDSET" speed.

I see DP is spreading his total lack of basketball knowledge again. Some people never learn. You're wasting your time with him. Can't fix his problems.
